Nice little article on Cadet. Intelligent sounding, and clear he's already bought into the system.

"No excuses whether he’s seven foot, or he’s eight foot. Your job is to catch the ball and make something happen and to protect him," Cadet said. "That’s pretty much what I’m here to do."

Sounds like he's got the right mentality to be TB12's 3rd down back. Only question is if he can do it on the field.

On a side note, saw reports he is working as a KR too, so that'll help him earn a spot as well.

Excellent. He sounds like he's making a Pats version of How to Win Friends and Influence People.
He could fit like a glove.

Interestingly enough, Reiss reported earlier that Dion Lewis was impressing today too. Go figure.

He will be a nice addition IMO

if cadet can be even half of what vereen was i'll take it!

maybe james white will surprise us!

Belichick realizes that, with a few exceptions, running backs are a dime a dozen, so he is throwing a lot at the wall and seeing what sticks. There's a lot of (unproven) talent in the Pats backfield, and I have confidence that a few of them will emerge and help the team. Meanwhile Jeff Fisher and Rex Ryan are going to run their talented backs into the ground, with no balance from the passing game (and in the case of the Rams, not even an offensive line) because they have no idea what year it is. Honestly, Jeff Fisher thinks it's 1988 judging by his Magnum PI mustache/inbred mullet combination. Best 8-8 coach in league history!

Cadet is a guy that can add some things, hopefully he's a capable runner because he appears to be a good pass catcher. Blocking and the ability to be a change of pace runner is what will help him make the team.

Vereen was never really anything special as a runner either, he was really just a smaller receiver playing the RB spot when you think about it. So I don't think Cadet really has to be a great runner himself, as long as he can pass block well enough and catch the ball well, he should be good.

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing him play, I think it's going to be important that he is able to pick up the blitz. Vereen was very underrated at that part of his game.

True, though another article I read about Cadet said he was working hard at pass pro and it was his main focus.

I think the RBs as a whole are underrated this year, there are several guys who could develop. Gaffney is a total unknown, White has only played one year, Cadet is brand new to the team... Even Bolden could develop. And Reiss says to watch Dion Lewis, so who knows. I am not overly concerned because I feel there are too many guys with potential to end up with zero good ones.

Lewis is a real RB that's small. He was one of the top RBs in the country at Pitt. Caught 25 balls a year in college, but was not used as a receiver in the pros.

He needs to show he can block and receive on this level, but if he does, it looks like he'll be a better RB than Vereen [based on college]. 2860 rushing yards with a 5.3 avg. in two years at Pitt.

Sure seems like White needs to show some fire in the RB/receiver competition. Cadet, and Lewis seem like half of a great player, so if either shows ability in other than their strength, plus blocking...

Also, i agree with a previous poster, this body type, of the too small RB/receiver is just too easy to find for nothing, so these players need to prove it on the field.

Many great college slot receivers or RBs don't get a standing invitation, they need to hustle. If you're a 6'6" 325 lb lineman, get a chance to play your way out of a job.you

I wanna know where Roy Finch is at! I miss the little jitter bug.

Yeah, I forgot about him. Lewis seems similar with 15 more pounds [though that's just going from his combine report "makes tacklers miss"]

Like i said, when it comes to guys that size, it's put up or shut up, there's always another great college scat back that needs to prove it, ready to give it a try.

JMO...I don't think Cadet can run the rock. He won't get the job done. Regarding Lewis...I see some Dave Meggett there (on the playing field)...yep I said it.

It's fair to have some doubt with Cadet in regards to his rushing ability, given the incredibly small sample size. Hopefully coach Fears can mold him a little bit and have us pleasantly surprised. I would have no issue with Lewis producing either. He's got the measurables, just needs the production.

In terms of making the team, his kick return ability is his most valuable asset aside from his pass catching. There doesn't seem to be much tape on him running the ball or pass protecting which is unfortunate. It will be very interesting to see how he is used in preseason games. Seems like he is Patriot-like in football IQ and coachability.

I really really hope some of you posting in this thread get the time to attend a practice or two this summer. Some of the things brought up in this thread about White and Finch were questions I had until I went to camp last summer. I admit I saw a lot of practices but, clearly, impressions I got from SEEING these players carried over into the season.
Finch looks the part until he gets hit. He's the typical good college player that's a shade too light in the seat for the pros.
As far as White is concerned, unless he's gotten some kind of talent injection this offseason I find it hard to see him beating out Cadet OR Lewis for a roster spot. Of course, I haven't seen either one of those players yet, but White has JAG written all over him. That's my opinion, so if he's a binkie of yours don't take offense.

Wow you don't think White will make the roster?
That be a wasted pick for sure.

It's nice to see Cadet returning to the practice field. Now he has a fair shot to try and make the roster.

Of all the roster competitions, this is probably the most heated right now. Travaris is returning to practice (after having a an impressive debut in training camp) and Lewis and White gave noteworthy performances in the last preseason game. I'm curious to see who comes out on top.
