Will Belichick have opponent's balls tested?

To answer the OP.....
NO
Any inquiry into ball PSI legitimizes the original grievance.

robber kraft will disagree, our selfish agenda cant delay 10 seconds the start of the 2nd half

no.....BB has nothing directly to do with deflategate, but all of this harassment of the pats is because of him and brady.......which is why the league tries to put their version of 'ankle-weights' on them

In a back room somewhere, kraft is told 'we gotta do this........we gotta try to keep things even'.....bob says 'i understand'

but they need to make it look good

with every day, I like Al Davis more and more

Last week, I was at a bar with a buddy of mine who's a Raiders fan. After a bunch of drinks, I admitted that I wished Kraft had some Al Davis pride/fighting spirit in him. He demanded that I say it again so that he could record it, thinking that once I sobered up I would regret what I said. When I saw it again the next day I said "yeah, I totally stand by that".

I dunno what that says about Raiders fans or Al Davis, but it was a weird interaction.

BB will find a way to use the ruling to TB's advantage....If at any time TB feels the balls are over inflated as in may be...16 lbs....which is a big disadvantage for TB...for the integrity of the game, must be fixed...there should be no reason TB should ever throw an over inflated ball...May be the NFL will have to test each ball before each use....to maintain the integrity of the game.....for both PSI and weight....

Unfortunately, you do have a point. Per Vincent' letter, Spygate factored into the equation in determining the severity of the sanctions. That means the perception that the league has of this team - as cheaters will never go away.

You do have to wonder if some other ridiculous, manufactured BS "Gate" comes up in the future, will the league take "Deflategate" into account?

It's BS thay they factored spygate into the punishment seeings how it happened nearly a decade earlier.

Would they consider heavier fines against the Broncos for CheatTheCapGate ? Funny that, yet again, the NFL does something unprecedented with the Pats in how they apply punishments

Kraft is looking out for his investment.....evidently he doesn't realize that his fan base is a huge part of that investment.

He said that he realized the fans weren't happy during his Capitulation Speech.

If the team's fans were Kraft's main concern, he would have fought that BS over the top penalty.......I wonder what it would take for Goodell and his front office goons to make Kraft sell the Pats?

The more I think about the way the Patriots have been F'd over, the more P!$$ed I become.

Wouldn't it be great if a TV crew had a sideline reporter on the field for a very cold game in Foxboro in December with a football (not a game ball, but one of theirs, and the same brand)?

They could show on tape that it was at 12.5 psi at room temp. Say it's 30 degrees outside and they then tested it at halftime. Hilarity would ensue. "Wow, look, it says 10.5 psi now! I think we cheated and we didn't touch it!"

Nobody at a national level would ever have he courage to do that though. Maybe some of the local TV/radio guys could do it.

I also have a whole boatload of respect for the entire steelers organization (players coach, and art rooney II) for being the only ones to be against the current CBA......back then I just wanted football to be on so I didn't care about the details of things.......

everybody for way too long criticized players for being in contract hassles with front offices (wilfork, mankins, and seymour were all roundly criticized here for them having their principle) I hope this gives people a little more of the players perspectives. Sure they're out for the money, but they're the only ones being put in harms way

Goodell and the NFL loves Kraft and would never make him sell. Where else are they going to find a eunuch that does mind if his team and fans are abused on an ongoing basis.

Not to be a spoilsport, but ask yourselves two questions:
  • Do these ideas require effort and attention from BB and others?
  • Do they contribute to winning football games?
After that the title question for this thread should answer itself.
I wouldn't saying checking other team's footballs is the best idea but you could ask yourself the same questions regarding running up scores in 07 and get the same answers. But we did it anyway because fuk everybody else right? I like the idea of calling other teams out on any and all obscure infractions for the sake of integrity.

I think borg's "No" response is right, but for a different reason. What's the league going to do when the pre-game, halftime, and end of game PSI readings aren't all the same, either for games played in Florida early in the season or for outdoor games in the late fall/winter? Are they really going to come out and say "The average PSI of the footballs at halftime of the Green Bay - Minnesota game on January 3rd was 10.3."?

The league isn't going to do that because it will make this whole exercise look like an enormous waste of time and highlight their foolishness in pursuing it to the lengths they did. I also don't trust the league to consistently and accurately report the PSI numbers even if they said they will be checking them. I like PBPF's idea of some independent company doing this. They don't even need to be in the stadium. Just test the footballs in the parking lot outside. The weather conditions will be the same.

True that. During the Jets game, the footballs were inflated to over 16 psi. The Pats footballs were considered uninflated by .4 PSI when using the BAD gauge. And would easily fall under norms using the NFL Logo guage according to the natural gas law.

So that means - Jets overinflate footballs by 2.5 psi. NO problems.
Pats 'more probably than not' had 'general knowledge' that their footballs underinflated by average of .4 psi less than Natural Gas Law = loss of 2 drafts picks, 1 million dollar fine, and 4 game suspension of franchise QB.

Jets owner obviously tampers in press = 100k fine.
Lions/Niners caught tampering = loss of draft pick plus a pick swap.

The bias in the NFL league office is so obvious it is sickening!

you have to realize that Goodell doesn't really care about rule violations unless committed by the Pats. Just look at the wristslap for the Jets for the real rule violation of tampering and the letter of warning sent to the teams for warming the balls.

Asking for other teams footballs to be tested would be too obvious.

Belichick has probably been scouring over the NFL rule book all season to do something that's blindsiding, that nobody sees coming.

Perhaps we can mass-tweet or e-mail the idea to NBC or CBS or one of their producers when the time comes

I think there's a chance they might do it

and here's Bill Belichick with a message about Testicular Awareness Month... "Check your balls!"

I guess that's the kind of love Ray Rice put on his girlfriend? This has become even more absurd.
