I've mentioned this in one of my comments on another thread, but I decided to start my own thread. Does anyone feel that Belichick will have an opponent's balls tested at halftime of a cold-weather game in Foxboro? If he does have a team's balls tested that started at 12.5 PSI pre-game, and they test similarly to what the Pats' balls tested at, does Goodell remove the draft pick and monetary penalties from the Pats? My guess is that he upholds the 4th rounder and the $500,000 for the "lack of cooperation", but he has no choice but to remove the other penalties due to this overwhelming proof that science doesn't play favorites. I would love to see this (p)rick and his giant-sized ego have to fold (at least to an extent). Another thought is that this proof will be merely swept under the rug, and he will dance around the issue when he does his next presser.

I would also love Tommy and his legal team have Goodell beg for mercy when (not "if") they destroy him in court...

As much as I would love to see BB do it, IMO this would be a waste of time during a game. He knows the league hates him and his team. Doing this will only have worse outcomes then all of the crap that already happened.

Would be funny to see it happen on live TV, betcha the network wouldn't show it.

I am hoping that the Brady legal team brings a ball, a pump, a gauge, and a fridge to the courtroom with them. Pump up the ball, rub it as if it were pregame, show its pressure at room temp, then pop it in the fridge. Make your case during the hearing for a couple hours, by which time the ball will have cooled and reached equilibrium. Remove the ball and show the reading again. Case closed.

For best effect, have the judge do the gauging to prove impartiality.

That would be too obvious. I think he should pick out a bunch of obscure, minor things from the field operations manual, and he should demand that something new be tested every game. Stuff that he knows nobody in the league cares about or checks for. And when a team is found to have committed an infraction, someone in the Patriots organization needs to go absolutely apeshit over how the integrity of the game has been impugned according to the super reasonable standards that Goodell has established.

If the league had a shred of integrity - which it doesn't - they would test a whole bunch of balls during various games throughout the season under a wide variety of game conditions.

No. BB should not give credence to the haters that a half a PSI makes some significant difference. I have thrown a flat football around - it sure the hell didn't make me any better. I'd argue that if flat footballs made everything better then the NFL should allow that. They always want more offense..

Good question. I don't see this happening because they probably will have better protocol for testing in that they will keep whatever footballs they think are a problem in the locker room and use the back up footballs which would allow them to return to their original pressure and most likely no one is going to push the limit on psi in the foreseeable future but that does make me wonder that if Brady takes this to court and it is proven that weather was "more probable than not" a factor in the deflation that the NFL would be forced to return the picks or reduce the fine or both.

Belichick should be as passively aggressive and obstinate as he possibly can. Demand that the refs call out opponents on breaking the most obscure rules, respond to questions in the press conferences how they must have won because the other team must have forgot to tamper with their footballs, things like that.

Not to be a spoilsport, but ask yourselves two questions:
  • Do these ideas require effort and attention from BB and others?
  • Do they contribute to winning football games?
After that the title question for this thread should answer itself.

I think he is more likely to challenge other obscure rules that might compromise the "integrity of the game" in order to "protect the shield"...

I always have to remember that these guys are smarter than most, and with Ernie in the booth.. that is our competitive edge.

Indy and Baltimore better cross all of their t's and dot all of their i's... payback is a bytch.

you have to realize that Goodell doesn't really care about rule violations unless committed by the Pats. Just look at the wristslap for the Jets for the real rule violation of tampering and the letter of warning sent to the teams for warming the balls.

I wish I had the confidence in the Pats that many of you have. I think there's a much better chance of the Pats being victimized again, especially with the new rule that would allow Kensil, or one of his stooges, to plant an "impartial medical expert" on the field with the ability to pull Pats players in key spots during games.

The biggest cheater in all of this has been the NFL, and I don't see that changing. They have shown that they will stop at nothing to keep the Pats from winning.

Unfortunately, you do have a point. Per Vincent' letter, Spygate factored into the equation in determining the severity of the sanctions. That means the perception that the league has of this team - as cheaters will never go away.

You do have to wonder if some other ridiculous, manufactured BS "Gate" comes up in the future, will the league take "Deflategate" into account?

Are you serious? If there is another "PatsGate" event, I'll tell you what will happen.

After the entire world's news networks lead with the story for a couple days in their shrill cry for survival of the human race, the President will call a special press conference announcing his cabinet's plan for national reconstruction and healing. Congress will enact legislation disbanding the Patriots org , the players will be absorbed into the league team ( a la expansion) after they have served their game suspensions, BB will be imprisoned and Ball less Bob K and family will emigrate to Israel to live the remainder of their lives in obscurity.

no.....BB has nothing directly to do with deflategate, but all of this harassment of the pats is because of him and brady.......which is why the league tries to put their version of 'ankle-weights' on them

In a back room somewhere, kraft is told 'we gotta do this........we gotta try to keep things even'.....bob says 'i understand'

but they need to make it look good

with every day, I like Al Davis more and more

Kraft is looking out for his investment.....evidently he doesn't realize that his fan base is a huge part of that investment.
