We have to pay to honor our military .... pathetic.

Kraft's image as a whore is coming to full fruition in 2015.

Somehow his bimbo girlfriend was overlooked in his transformation.

More and more I think Belichick works for him ... perhaps may not like him so much.

Investigation underway; punishment forthcoming. Patriots claim "everybody does it"; fans cry bulls***. Belichick suspended for the year, entire 2016 draft class forfeited.

One one hand it seems misleading and disingenuous of the Pats/NFL to accept funding to do promotional work for the armed services when it appears that they are paying homage and appreciation for members of the military.

On the other hand, the Defense Department does have a $700m marketing budget. We need to attract good people to help defend our country. In terms of a target audience and demographic, it doesn't get much better than fans of the NFL. It's actually marketing dollars well spent.

Tough issue.

Baghdad Bob Kraft is a money worshipping tight wallet owner. I said it back when he cheaped out on Seymour, Samuel, Branch and a host of others. Luckily he has Brady and Belichick to cover up for his penny pinching ways...
If not for Brady and Belichick the team would've had plenty of 8-8 & 9-7 no playoff seasons the last 12 years...
In fact B&B's excellence has ALLOWED cheap azz penny pinching krafty Bob to stick to his Ebeneezer Scrooge miserly ways....Fcuk You Krafty Bob you shameless midget

Some of our all-time American sports greats were also military / war hero's. Just sayin.

All these years, I just assumed those "displays of honor" for the military were patriotic initiatives by the Patriots. Now we learn they're paid for. And on top of it, the NFL markets its "salute to service" gear every season.

I was kinda surprised when the initial report didn't include Kraft. Love him or hate him, he doesn't miss an opportunity to make a buck, principles be damned.

A really smart PR move by Kraft now would be to say,
" in retrospect, our civic duty should be to promote the armed forces. We're going to donate the mount we received to USO organizations and the Wounded Warrior project. In the future we will no longer receive compensation for promoting the US armed forces. but will continue to do so."
It would be the equivalent of a politician finding out a donor was/is tainted by scandal. They give that money back or to a charity...

Except that's not what it's about ("honoring the military"). It's about showing a bunch of teenagers and young adults the adulation they, too, can get by wearing the uniform. "Look! You too can have 60,000 people cheering for you!!!!!!!" "The few, the proud..."

Pure marketing.

You want to honor the military, buy a vet a drink or visit a VA hospital. Or don't look past that homeless guy on the street - there's a very good chance he's a vet (200,000 vets sleeping on the streets on any given night).

A $700 million marketing budget? $7 million being HANDED to the 32 billionaire owners of the NFL (probably more to the baseball teams) to tug at the heartstrings of people already paying a fortune to even be in attendance...

This story saddens me, but it doesn't surprise me.

The problem for me is that they are paying a team to honor their troops. Not sure that falls into the marketing category. Not sure if it includes Army advertisement signs in the stadium. As in all things related to the media we probably haven't heard half the story yet.

Oustanding post.

I am not a veteran but I have first-hand knowledge of how much the WW Project has helped veterans and families get their lives back after sacrificing so much to defend the right to live without fear.

I don't disagree with your view. I understand the angles here but yes- the whole thing does leave me with a funny taste in my mouth as well.

I guess it's my bad for being naive enough to think that the NFL was taking time out of their game-day presentation to recognize and pay respect to the sacrifices the armed forces make for us for free.

I am thinking perhaps the NFL is in damage control already in this story. I say that because if the general public were well informed on the issue this could blow open with backlash. So I sent some links to some media outlets who perhaps ... hopefully are not in the NFL's pocket.

Let's all work to get this story to explode in the MSM where NFL fans ... non NFL fans ... senior citizens ... veterans ... anyone who cares may get outraged enough to put good old Roger Dodger on the hot seat. Let's get some Twitter hashtags ... Facebook posts ... anything we can do to bring this story to the hot seat ... the top news stories of today.

Maybe this is the issue that could remove Goodell from NFL employment. ;)
