Goodell's letter response to the NFLPA...6/2/2015

And he still screwed up the second pick "Marioto" versus "Mariota"......mispronouncing it....
That blew me away. We weren't talking about some mid-5th rounder. Marcus Mariota was arguably the most well know player (or 2nd only to Winston) in the draft. How does this moron commissioner know so little about the sport of football itself????

this was the Goodells grand scheme from the very beginning. He set this up what total anticipation of this going to appeal. And hes trying to absolve of himself from any responsibility before hand. I think the NFL is going to be in for a rude awakening when the Players Association has their next CBA's.

It's the modern take on the emperor has no clothes. In this version the emperor just keeps insisting that he's wearing clothes as people point out he isn't.
The problem is, and I think this is what everyone on here is missing as it relates to Brady's suspension, 31 other fanbases are on the Emperor's side. I'm convinced that initial NFL leak something to the affect of "severe punishment coming down on Patriots" prior to the official announcement was in fact a well-planned trial balloon.

Once that information was leaked we had a week or weeks of fans and media speculating and talking about how much punishment the Patriots, Belichick, and Brady should receive. We had buffons like Michael Wilbon saying Brady should be suspended for the year. Several national media members with big followings echoed to Wilbon's thoughts. I mean, Christ, what was it, 77% of the country thought the Patriots should vacate the f#cking super bowl. The country hates the Pats with a fervor unknown in sport, and Goodell knew he could skate (outside of New England) in the court of public opinion with a draconian punishment.

So now the NFL knew they wouldn't look bad if they came down hard AND Goodell knew he had a patsy in Krafty Bob...

Now it is up to Brady and his team to take this appeal to the goal line, but, frankly, Brady's going to end up punting and taking his medicine.....

Not sure if someone already brought this up, but Goodell is now trying to pretend he never gave the ultimate punishment decision to Vincent. This might be the most important point if this stuff goes to court. The constant spin and the changing of history (even stuff that's only months old) will not work in court. He says he gave away the punishment because it would make him look good for the appeal. That backfired because it violated the CBA. Now we're to believe he had a hand in the punishment and signed off on it. So which lie is closer to the truth?

He was too busy with important matters, like playing madden Jets vs Patriots (without Brady) to see how they would do in the coming season, than figure out how to pronounce names.

How come when Dez Bryant writes a letter to the Commissioner it looks like it was written by a legal scholar, yet when Goodell writes one for the league it looks like it was written by Dez Bryant trying to pretend he's a legal scholar?

he's a guy with an ordinary undergraduate degree. no legal training, nothing.

But he is surrounded by big money lawyers who could have written something that didn't look like it was written by a lawyer on acid. Goödel's only defense, as always, is to plead incompetence. It flat out amazes me that the billionaire boys club pays 44 million to a guy who should be asking if we want fries with our cheeseburgers.

You're talking about a guy that has pretty much never missed a voluntary workout, and a guy that hates to give up snaps in practice.

Is he going to roll over and miss four games in what he knows is the twilight of his career?

I just don't think so.

I need help understanding something.

If the CBA gives Goodell authority to punish players then what legal basis does Brady have to take this to court to challenge Goodell's authority?

Abuse of discretion. Excessive and unprecedent punishment for a 'wrongdoing' where there is no actual proof. Etc. etc. Don't worry too much about it, Brady and the NFLPA has millions of dollars to pay very smart lawyers to challenge and overturn Goodell's ruling.

Look at it this way -- the rulebook says the punishment for having a football outside the PSI range is 25k. Goodell and his goons issued a 1 million dollar fine, docked 2 draft picks, and suspended Brady for 4 games without pay which is 25% of the season and millions of dollars out of his pocket. That is completely out of WHACK!

Yes....THIS....

Abuse of power.

The Wells report being a joke and not independent

And finally, why wasnt the Colts investigated for deflated balls as well.

Such a ****ed up investigation.........

When Brett Favre was asked to give up his phone in the **** pic investigation he refused, result, $50,000 fine, when Brady refused it's four games and a loss of millions. If that isn't an abuse of discretion nothing is.
