Welker wants to be homer again....

I agree, but you got to admit. That was game over if he caught that.
There were multiple times the Patriots could've put the game away but didn't execute, Wes' drop being one of them. The fact is people are trying to put the loss on Wes when it was the team as a whole that lost.

Wes is welcome to compete for a spot on the shadow roster. :)

I think you were thinking more about the 2007 Super Bowl where you point to a number of plays. The Welker drop was one of a very select few plays. It's ok, he was a great Patriot and one of the best slot receivers of all time. But he did drop the game winner that would of more probable than not wound the clock down. He is still a great Patriot in my book.

The people who act like his two drops are what define his career here are being ridiculous. When he played here he had plenty, and I mean plenty, of clutch plays. Especially on those third downs. I get people are upset about how things ended, but he had 672 catches. 672 catches, yet people want to focus on 2 drops. 2. Compared to 672. Makes no sense.

But those 2 drops hurt so much!

Welker has gone from dead to me to a faint heartbeat ... for me.
Realistically ... he is only useful to a team who has lost a slot guy late in the season and is in the playoff hunt.

We brought back the twig, who left on MUCH WORSE terms then Welker did, and he gave us whatever limited stuff he had left in the tank. I respected him for it, because he was sufficiently humbled by his experience in Seattle. If Welker comes in the same way, he could be marginally useful for Brady in the same way. Those two (Branch and Welker) had undeniable chemistry with TFB that transcended youth and ability. The only one that has EV'AH come close to duplicating it is JE11.

I wouldn't be opposed, but he would have to sufficiently kiss enough public ass to make it palatable. This interview is a good first step.

Of course he wants to return .

I don't care about how he left this is a business and these guys are pros.

However he is a shadow of the player who was with the Patriots, he is done, cooked, he really needs to retire for his future health. I hope he hasn't had too many concussions already.

The SB dropsies not withstanding, Welker gave me some great memories and played his ass off for us so I'd be happy if he came back.
Meh. Edelman and Amendola both are better at this point.

If Wes was a car the petrol gauge would be beyond the empty designation. Loved you here Wes but it's time you retired.

All due respect, danny--I think the title of your thread is a bit misleading.

This was Welker's statement: "“I wouldn’t be opposed to it. It’s a great organization, obviously, and a great team. It wouldn’t be the worst situation in the world."

That's not exactly screaming anything about wanting to return home to me.

I agree. What was he supposed to say that was different?

If Edelman and Amendola weren't here, it might be a different matter. But in fact the Patriots are one of the teams in the league with the least use for Welker (assuming one takes the favorable view -- as of course is implicit in anything he would say -- that he would indeed be useful to anybody).

Eh...it's not so much the drops that rubbed me the wrong way about Welker. Of course I didn't like them, but drops happen and he's made plenty of great plays in his time in NE. But while he was a Patriot, it always seemed like he always carried himself like he was above the rules. Even Spikes, who spoke out with a vengeance after he left, kept his mouth shut while he was a Pat.

The comments about Rex Ryan before the playoff game vs the Jets...the foot stuff. Yeah, it was hilarious as a fan, but you know Belichick was pissed. Then we went and lost the game. That's really my biggest lasting memory of Welker.

The title of this thread is driving me crazy

Randy Moss would be a better addition than Welker at this point

You mean the broadcaster or the receiver? :)

But sirrously... I'd take him cheap. Catching accurately thrown passes might actually make a receiver of him again yet. I wouldn't be surprised at a bounce-back year, though he's not worth more than a cheap deal -- if he's not looking for that, plenty of teams will buy the resume.

What's best for Wes? Hanging 'em up before he turns into the Mohammad Ali D-Con 4-Gone commercial from the 70s.

But you know what that means...
NO RING FOR YOU!

With Wes it's a pity the NFL* can't just wield its magical, unfettered power to intervene and put him on CTE-risk leave for... oh let's say, ever.

Why not WW?
Our first string QB thrives in a slot WR passing attack. More weapons ...more choices...more depth....All good things. The 2014 WR roster had no depth...WW would change that with one stroke of the pen. No learning curve....no "will he get he system."
If Brandon Spikes can et a do-over....why not WW? What is the down side?
WW is in his twilight.....and I believe he can accept a reduced role....be on of the 46.

I think it's just because he'll have to knock a young WR who is being developed off the roster. He wouldn't be a starter over Edelman or Amendola at this point, they're both younger and more athletic.

The depth spots at WR should be used on younger guys that are developing, not on a 34 year old slot WR that would be 3rd on the depth chart for that position

If it was the 30 year old version of Welker I'd be all for it, but unless we suffer some serious injures there just isn't any place for him on the roster at the moment
