3. When part of the media-based debate locally is whether Brady should say something publicly about his upcoming appeal, it makes me wonder if we've run out of meaningful things to banter about. I have trouble grasping why this is significant, especially given my sense is that some preparing to fight on Brady's behalf might argue that Brady has already talked too much on the overall topic, specifically pointing to his marathon Jan. 22 news conference.
calling his local media brethren out :)

Its funny, most of the people that want him to talk are the same people who will be screaming "Liar!" as soon as he's finished talking if he doesn't come out apologizing for this ridiculousness and fully admitting to what he's being accused of.

I can't believe we're still talking about PSI in a ball. People will go to absured lengths to discredit greatness.

Volin was flapping his gums on Comcast a couple of days ago asking why Brady was being silent.

He doesn't have the mental capacity to understand that this has the potential for legal circumstances. Silence is the best policy at this point.

I can't stand this guy. It's clear to me he hates the Patriots, esp. Brady, but his reasons for not understanding why Brady doesn't address this issue are stupid. 1. Brady already has--Volin must have been in the bathroom at the time. 2. Brady is now involved in a legal battle and is intelligently listening to his lawyers and 3. the more eejits like Volin suggest that silence=guilt, the clearer it is, TFB has few friends in the media and of those few, eejit Volin is clearly not one of them. In fact Brady has done exactly what Volin is asking for, declared his innocence, but it hasn't stopped Volin from making stupid, toxic equations about silence and guilt. He just continues babbling. I second your point about mental capacity: this clown is f* moronic. His columns are nothing more than clickbait.

Silence is golden, the media is crap so keeping him out of the crap makes a lot of gold!

That's exactly what happened after Brady's press conference in January. He stated he didn't tamper with the footballs or tell anyone else to. Those statements resulted in Brunell crying and all he, Bettis, and Dawkins all agreeing that Brady was lying.

As an aside, what are the chances of three former players hearing that press conference and all three instantly agreeing that Brady was lying? When you consider that ESPN ran with Mort's fake story plus the Naqi fake story, you have to question their agenda with any coverage of this story.

Something I haven't heard mentioned a lot is an equipment manager for USC was caught deflating footballs during a game in 2012. The manager was fired and the school was fined $25K. The reaction was mainly "Why are you doing something so dumb?" and there was no talk of suspensions for coaches or players or a permanent stain on the program. To top it off, the officials noticed that the footballs were underinflated. How do college officials catch this in one game, but NFL officials allegedly missed this for 9 years?

Reading the comments of the Florio article reveals just how much damage this has done to the league.

We'll see if it can recover in the near future. I doubt it, honestly.

I can't stand this guy. It's clear to me he hates the Patriots, .

The douchebag was a Dolphin's writer for 8 years and was born and grew up in Maryland ...
Probably a Colt fan .... from when they were in Baltimore.

I hope to provide to you what Greg did the last three years:
Detailed, unbiased

If the media wants a story it's right there for them. Other than tom Curran no one is pounding the NFL for the bungling of this whole thing. It's the NFL that turned a baby lizard into Godzilla. 'integrity of the game' my ass.

I don't think he hates the Patriots. He just doesn't have much perspective on anything. Two things in today's column (Sunday Globe 5-31-2015) bugged me, and they are very different.

First, he does this long column on assault and domestic violence, and sides with the abusers getting second chances and not giving more power to Goodell. Okay. They are totally separate issues. He ends with saying that the NFL is there to entertain for a few hours per week and to make money, as if featuring child abusers and men who batter women is just a cost of doing business. It's not. I'm sure that the NFL could field 32 teams of young men who don't abuse their kids or beat their women.

Second, he puts Danny Amendola at $3.1 million against the cap as a bad value, and bases that on what he does only on offense. Amendola had a great season as a kick returner, and is the short punt return man. He's also a damn good open field blocker on offense and special teams. His $3.1 million deal is a good one for all the versatility he provides.

IMO, Brady is being quiet because he holds the better hand.

Goodell couldn't risk turning Brady's Appeal over to a respected independent Ariber because of the chance that the Arbiter would overturn the entire Suspension and thus "out" the Wells report for the farce that it is. However, if an independent Arbiter, respected for his/her neutrality, had reduced the suspension to one or two games, it would have been very difficult for Brady to litigate. So, handing the case over to an independent, third party would normally have been the logical course for Goodell to follow. But the risk of the entire suspension being overturned was too great for Goodell to do that.

So, Goodell is now in the position of having to conduct the "Appeal" himself and decide whether Brady might accept a reduction of the Suspension to one or two games without taking the League to court and forcing Discovery along the lines of texts and phone messages and would include testimony under oath and risk of perjury, by League, Ravens and Colts officials, which would, in all likelihood, be extremely embarrassing for all three parties.

Goodell also knows that Brady and Gisele are the only non-owner parties in the League with pockets deep enough to follow through on a protracted litigation process. If he puts Brady in the position of feeling he has nothing to lose, he knows he could go that route.

So, Brady has nothing to gain and a lot to lose by opening his mouth. This is going to come down to "who blinks first" and there is no point in Brady saying a word.

They're afraid the NFL will freeze them out. So the big corps (ESPN/CNN/..) are in it together. the smaller market guys don't want to piss off the giant and lose any future access. Basically, people follow the money which is the way this whole thing goes. Only fans think the media is in it for them...

Maybe the USC guy was deflating his balls more than a quarter pound

Brady has refused to comment at a pre arranged Salem State program and at Best Buddies event. What's next a story on how he wouldn't comment at someone's funeral. Apparently the media want Brady to show a lack of class and decorum to respond to BS!

That makes me think. Perhaps ESPN can run a special where they deflate the footballs .5 PSI and see if players can tell the difference. Perhaps have 5 balls and they have to decide which one(s) are under inflated. i mean, they do need to fill air time or perhaps they can just rerun their old episodes . I'd like to see Brunell crying again.
