Goodell doesn't want this in court.

RG: let's compromise, Tom, you do A, B, C, D and I'll drop the suspension. We don't want this in court!
TB: My plan is you just drop the suspension, period, no fines, no NOTHING, and you GFY.
RG: I'll drop the suspension, and then we'll hug, and you will say that you'll never do it again.
TB: I didn't do anything, moron...My plan is you just drop the suspension, period, no fines, no NOTHING, and you GFY.
RG: Well, can you work with me a little here...I'll drop the suspension, and then we'll hug, and then I'll say that it just wasn't clear whether anything happened or not.
TB: It's clear that NOTHING happened, moron...My plan is you just drop the suspension, period, no fines, no NOTHING, and you GFY.
RG: Tom, Tom... (drops to his knees with sad puppy dog eyes...)

TB: So, what's your plan?
RG: My plan is I just drop the suspension, period, no fines, no NOTHING. But can I still get a hug for the cameras?
TB: No, you moron.
RG: Can we say we reached an agreement though, even though I basically agree that you did nothing?
TB: OK, but get off your knees. Have some pride, man...

Delay?
Tom is not negotiatiable.

Question: If Goodell refuses to reduce Brady's suspension and Brady takes this to court, does Brady still serve his suspension?

basic timeline to expect (I think, given current known evidence) in your proposed case:

Goodell denies appeal
Brady files injunction against enforcement of suspension, and files suit against League and/or Goodell
Court weighs evidence/likelihood of success v. irreparable harm
Court grants injunction
Case goes to court
Brady wins
Case put in front of Goodell to dispose of in accordance with court ruling
Goodell plays smart and Brady's suspension is repealed or
Goodell doubles down and round 2 of the court battle begins

Wait, how does delaying the appeal allow more time to challenge the ruling when it's done? Seems to me that the sooner the appeal occurs, the sooner Goodell upholds his BS ruling, and then the sooner Brady and the PA can sue.

Maybe its a plan to have Brady play the whole season before this finishes up in court. Goodell would have to congratulate Brady on another Super Bowl win and then kiss his ass in the court room.

I'm not counting on this hearing to bring any satisfaction at all. Especially not if they are pleading their case to Goodell. Ultimately I don't expect this to be resolved until we get to court. Buckle your seatbelts.

I just hope Brady follows it through to court. He will feel some pressure to fold...

*For those who didn't get that reference -- ::sigh:: -- Henry II said "Who will rid me of this meddlesome priest?", and four of his knights went off and killed Archbishop Becket. Henry II did penance for that.

Dontcha hate having to choose between doing the right thing, and just using the reference, and explaining it because you know nobody will get it?

(Also depending on the source, "troublesome priest," "turbulent priest..." but I think in Shakespeare, "meddlesome priest." Good timing, as Oscar Romero was just sainted.)

He may but I suspect the NFLPA will pressure him to pursue it especially if they want to use this as some sort of test case.

Actually, after Goodell loses wouldn't he likely -- and much belatedly -- agree to a true neutral arbitrator? Or are you suggesting that just as Kraft folded "For the good of the league", Goodell would then fold "For the good of the league" and accept a loss on the matter of Brady's punishment?

Also, and this is a really picky point -- is the case first, is the injunction request first, or are they in all ways simultaneous?

Yep. A classic response by Brady would be "For the good of the League"

That would depend upon the actual ruling. I was just laying out a scenario. It's also possible that this case could get smacked down at the original punishment phase, since that was an area the NFLPA argued against and could take up in court.

He can file for the injunction separately

I probably should have clarified....it's the beginning of the process of Goodell being exposed as the fraud he is.

Unless Goodell takes the Peterson turn off and appeals the ruling against him and the NFL.
Peterson is still awaiting the result of that appeal. On top of that Goodell has refused to implement the Court ordered redo and the NFLPA just this week requested Goodell be ruled in contempt of Court!

Any legal beagles here who might know why Goodell did not just ask for a stay in this matter while he appealed?

should be a great couple of days. Goodell will be exposed for the fraud he is.
The actual discussions in that meeting will never see the light of day.

The presser will say that TB12's appeal was denied and he has decided to sue the NFL.

Let justice be done or the heavens fall.

This just in, Goodell finds Brady guilty and suspends him another 4 games on top of the original 4.
No kidding....like **** Vernon doling out detentions to Bender in The Breakfast Club.

The opposite is also true.
NFLPA wants it. Players want the fight.

If Brady is vulnerable, nobody is safe.
Suggs is so far the only guy not to get this.

What's in the appeal? Is it like a hearing with new evidence or does Goodell just send out a memo that says "I have reviewed my decision and declare that I agree with myself."

This is just it with this faux appeal hearing. Roj is already on record as saying that he will listen to any new evidence "that wasn't considered in the Wells report". All he is going to do is say all of that was considered in the report and the conclusion was that Tom was "probably generally aware" (of something that didn't actually happen). That's their story and they're sticking with it.
If course if this leads to a law suit that is a good thing.
Another question. If this goes to a real court and it finds that there is a 99.8% likelihood that nothing untoward happened, how can the nfl stick with its team punishment?
