Brady appeal date set 6/23

From PFT

On Thursday, a source with knowledge of the situation told PFT that the NFL and NFL Players Association had agreed to extend the Wednesday deadline, and that the NFL had offered a pair of dates that weren’t ideal for the union. The NFLPA had responded with a pair of weeks that worked, and the NFLPA was waiting for the league to respond.

Brady and the NFLPA wanted the hearing to be conducted in June, in order to ensure that sufficient time will be available to go to court and challenge the outcome of the internal appeal process.

...There still is the chance of a deal in which the penalty is cut from 4 games to 1, and Goodell clearly exonerates Brady of most accusations.
I wonder if that is enough. If I'm Brady and the Union I'm itching for a real court. I mean unless Goodell goes to 0 games, apologizes to Tom and begs his forgiveness and wears sack cloth or a hair shirt, whatever.

(Goodall needs to say a mea culpa. :) )

This just in, Goodell finds Brady guilty and suspends him another 4 games on top of the original 4.
About the only useful point Lester Munson made in his otherwise execrable article a few weeks ago is that the penalty can't be increased.

Wait, how does delaying the appeal allow more time to challenge the ruling when it's done? Seems to me that the sooner the appeal occurs, the sooner Goodell upholds his BS ruling, and then the sooner Brady and the PA can sue.

Maybe the NFL offered later dates, say mid July and brady wanted June. So they had to extend the process to see if those dates were available?

is there enough time to go to court if goodell doesnt reduce the suspension??

So the long and the short is this will be upheld so Brady will be going to court?

A month for the appeal after the 10 day period to set a date is pretty much inline with most appeals. So it was only a slight delay. This is going pretty much as expected.

Now I am basing it off Adrian Peterson appeal process, so who really knows what can happen.

Here is a timeline for Adrian Peterson situation, to complete the whole process.

Doesn't this work for everyone in the end? Goodell upholds his ruling knowing Brady will get this into a court. Brady gets the suspension paused until sometime during the season (or after). Brady gets to play in the opener, Goodell gets monster ratings because of the media firestorm, Kraft gets to hang the banner without us freaking out.

Everyone wins. Except maybe the Steelers who hopefully catch an epic beatdown.

Goodell doesn't want this in court.

Goodell doesn't want this in court.

The irony would be great. Reminds me of that Band of Brothers episode where that dumbass superior was misusing his punishments and Lt Winters basically said "no thanks, I'll take a court martial please." In turn the officer turned pale and tried To convince him to take the loss of weekend.

107 days. I bet Brady's lawyers get it done in less than 90.

Why so damn far away?
I am wondering the same thing myself. I have a hypothesis. I am not sure I even believe my own hypothesis, but let me throw it out there and see what everyone thinks:

We heard rumors of backdoor dealing between Kraft and Goodell prior to Kraft's capitulation. Then, once Kraft officially surrendered, there was speculation that some sort of deal was indeed made. Is it possible that they pushed the appeal back in order to give some space between Kraft doing his end of the deal, and Goodell fulfilling his?

For example, if Kraft capitulates and 2 days later Goodell lets Brady go, then there was obviously a deal. By waiting 5 weeks, they gain a little separation.

I've been wrong about just about every prediction I've made in those whole sordid affair so I'm sure I will continue to have no idea what I am talking about. :D

To paraphrase the bard:

Goodell's but a walking shadow, a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more: He is an idiot,
full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.

In this case I don't think these lawyers are for show.

Ray Rice's procces was done in around 75 days I believe. So it varies, I am no expert on any of this. Just going off the most recent cases that ended up in court.

Hardy's situation is something to keep a eye on. That is likely going to court too. He is basically a month ahead of Brady right now in the process.

I agree with you. I think the other scenario I raises is less probable than not. :)

On the other hand, I don't think it's impossible. For one thing, while I believe that Brady isn't an outright cheater in this matter, I can't entirely rule out a secondary "Who will rid me of this meddlesome PSI?"* level of responsibility.

*For those who didn't get that reference -- ::sigh:: -- Henry II said "Who will rid me of this meddlesome priest?", and four of his knights went off and killed Archbishop Becket. Henry II did penance for that.
