Were there really more than 1%-2% of us who didn't think the investigation was going to be rigged and slanted, especially after an honest look at the Wells' Dolphin report?

well, I think you could be right. All I can recall is "interdasting" and "Sunshine Superdouche" as the voices of "reason" when all hell broke loose...then again, I never consider idiotic, transparent trolls as any % of us.

All I know is that, when I hear someone say "The Patriots definitely did something, but the league didn't prove it", I know I'm listening to someone who's an idiot on the topic.

Sadly, that list of idiots is very long, and it includes a whole lot of the so-called 'defenders'.

I'll admit that I had kept an open mind on the Wells investigation's integrity.
I'll also admit that I was wrong.

What message board were you on?

The majority of people here seemed to think that it would completely absolve us and delve into the sting and inappropriate behavior of the Colts and NFL management. It did none of those things. I could find examples from before the report was released easily, pretty much search for any post the day before the report was released.

I didn't read the Dolphin report. I figured that Wells would would have to consult real scientists, and thus the report would have to at least acknowledge the ideal gas law and also account for its expected effects. So I felt somewhat hopeful.

What I didn't expect was that they would do exactly that, and then they would go on to completely ignore it in reaching their conclusions!

Maybe you have the right of it, but I separate the wishful thinking of first blush responses from the more staid thinking underneath. Every time there is a 'break', people go overboard. I ignore that nonsense as best I can, and focus on what happens after that. I think most people understood that the report was going to be slanted. They may have thought the report would still completely, or mostly, exonerate the Patriots, but they knew what the angles were going to be.

The bottom line of all these days of 'investigations' and investigations:

We still don't know if anything wrong was done on the N.E. side of things or, if so, by whom.

I'd suggest you read the Dolphin report in preparation for any further Ted Wells' reports, but I don't expect there to ever be another Ted Wells report for the NFL.

Here is the Dolphin report in a nutshell

Hope you're right, Deus, but at this point it would be much too little and way too late in terms of sanitizing the cesspool that are the NYFL executive offices. The word integrity has taken a massive beating as used by the hypocrites there..(imho, of course)

You've got a guy that a judge basically called a liar, and he's both the point man for integrity in football and the face of the League itself. Until Goodell's gone, that stain will never be cleaned. The owners, apparently including Mr. "The whole 32", just don't care, because they're all about cashing checks.

One thing for sure is this whole Wells investigation opened my eyes to the machine that is the NFL. I never trusted Goodell but I also never knew how corrupt the whole hierarchy was.

I thought almost nothing of all of this. I was shocked by the results and when they came out with the punishment I was like no way did they just do that. I immediately took the time to read every page of that Wells report and grew even more angrier that the punishments that be, came from this piece of trash and wondered how the F anyone put any merit in it.

I came to the conclusion that I was one of the many sheep herded by this business and this opened my eyes. I decided to read the report on the Incognito case after that Turner/Schein audio and came to the conclusion that I should probably think things through before before judging situations to harshly. I was mad with Incognito, some of it based maybe unfairly on my view of him from Hard Knocks. Personally I believe something went on down there, but without being in the locker room and knowing now the type of character Wells is and also how he likes to omit anything that would possibly cast any good light on the defending party. I have decided that I don't know **** about that Miami locker room and what really happened. Doesn't mean I like Incognito any better either, but I will take the time for now on and form my own opinions regarding the NFL. Especially when they are trying to decide it for me.

I just figured that they would uncover so little that, even if they wanted to spin the Pats as being guilty, they just wouldn't have enough to even approach preponderance of evidence. Between the balls only being 1 psi under (as IGL predicts they should be), no pre-game PSI recorded, and the league employee stealing balls from the sidelines, it seemed like they would have no choice but to conclude that there was no real evidence that the Pats did anything.

I guess I underestimated their blatant disregard for the truth, and overestimated the general public's ability to digest objective facts without being spoonfed blatantly ridiculous conclusions.

I hear you. Incognito is a scumbag, no question. He may even be as big a scumbag as Wells and Goodell, although I'd need to see a lot more evidence to make that claim. What he's not is a guy who was fairly treated in the investigative process.

The Miami Report
The Ray Rice situation
PilotJ situation
Irsay and his drug/cash situation
DeflateGate
BountyGate

What gets me is that, even after the above (and many more), people will still defend the idea of the NFL being the judge/jury/executioner for both NFL and non-NFL issues involving owners, team employees and players.

I think you underestimated the owners/Goodell need to enforce the concept that there is parity in the league. It's one of those things that is perpetuated as true and not challenged (feels familiar?). I just hope some day, maybe 10-20 years from now when all the people have left for greener pastures that the truth will come out.

I had a concept topic for dealing with the Legacies of all involved, but it just seemed to be too much to both (call it fatigue). But in summary:
I think TB will still be a first ballot HoF and very few people will hold on to the cheating mantra. BB will ultimately be understood and hig genius revealed. BB actually did figure out how to beat the system and the rest have never caught on or had the "stones" to replicate what he does. Goodell I think will be looked at as the captain of the ship when it started taking on water. He'll be known as the man who was there and ran it into the ground.

Mark Cuban will sit there with a smile on his face.
