So how would you justify paying Revis to this TEAM.....especially to our up and coming free agents....

They had the money to keep Revis and return the SB winning team basically intact, and that's what should have happened, so let's not go through this again. Seriously, we're going to try justifying that move by pointing to the likes of Fletcher, now?

Sip the Koolaid. Don't bathe in it.

revis had no intention of staying. we could of offered him the same deal teh jets did and he still would have left.

And, now a couple of the Jets young defensive players aren't happy with their contracts. Wilkerson and Richardson. Hmmmmm. Revis is a great player. But, he's all about his wallet. Don't fault him for that. But, it is what it is.

Seriously................You find 16 mill in cuts....nothing but BS......are you aware of a salary cap.....Have you any ability to see the big picture?????? Take your blinders off.....Prove you could have fit his contract if you can...you won't because it can't be done....

Miguel does have us with about 10m in cap space. So, there's that. Solder can be extended lowering his cap number. And, you wouldn't have needed a guy like Fletcher. There ya go.

We have the space. Just didn't want to do it. Maybe, BB is right and Revis will start to slip. Possible. He wasn't as good with us, as he was with the Jets a few years ago. Was still better than anything we had. But, I did think he has slipped a little. I was hoping we would extend him. But, not surprised he didn't want to give us a break on a deal either.

Formatting makes it hard to read that OP....

There was no way Revis stayed in NE. Woody Johnson had 51 million in cap space and no intention of getting outbid for him. Whatever the Patriots offered would be topped, and Revis wanted to be back in New York , that's obvious. He signed just hours after free agency was open, and it was a done deal before that. Nothing the Patriots could have done was going to keep him in NE, and trying pretend it was an actual option to hang on the Patriots is Every bit as wrong as the claims you made about them last season. A roster chock full of Belichick's "mistakes" that won the Super Bowl.

You asked where we can get 16m in cap space. We're 10m under. Bradley Fletcher's deal is 2.1m. You now have 12.1m in cap space. Solder is playing on his 1yr deal 7.5m, you can sign him to a long-term deal which lowers his cap number quite a bit. Because of the signing bonus being pro-rated. Maybe, Revis wouldn't be worth it. But, we could have done it.

First of all you gain 1.5 mil from Fletcher....Soldier is making only .4 mil more than RT Vollimere, And you still have the signing of Brown and Dane Fletcher which will bring the cap down further
lastly how much cap space do we usuraly go into the season with....4-6 mill...
I see us with 9 ml of which 4-5 mill max available...

It would have been interesting to see what would have happened if the Pat's could have signed Revis at the money they wanted to pay him.

AS it is you need 11ml in cuts...remember for every player cut add .7 ml on the back end...

Yeah would a been sick if he signed for a pair of tube socks.

Although Revis was the perfect Patriot while he was here, I get the impression he didn't like being a Patriot.
He got what he wanted. A SB ring, restore his reputation as an elite corner and another huge contract. I think he always thought as NY as his home and was glad to be able to go back there.

And when Woody Johnson went up to 60 guaranteed and 18 a year?

You guys keep acting like Revis would have signed in NE if they matched and that was never the car, they would have had to to the jets significantly and that would have taken 20 a year or more. Revis wanted to go home the whole time and he was smart enough to know that the best way to get there was to sign with the Patriots for a year and force the jets hand on it. No way Woody was going to stand by and watch him win rings in New England.

Revis got what. he wanted and we all got another Lombardi, time to move on from him.

The more I think about it the more I believe that the reason Revis choose NE to begin with was that he knew the Jets wouldn't be able to live c with the idea of him playing for the Patriots.

Oh well, at least when his career is over he will only have one ring and it will be courtesy of the Patriots, especially Belichick and Brady.

Team is worse than it would be if it still had Revis. But there is obviously a line to draw considering how much money it took to sign him and how much BB values depth over superstars (with several exceptions, as in everything in life).

I was confident he'd return. What I didn't know is how badly he wanted to go to the NYJ. I knew he loved $$$ but I foolishly thought he'd be cool returning for a few less to try and win again. Kudos to him for being the good soldier while here - allowing me to get fooled into thinking NE had a shot. And when you win a championship - thanks needs to go to the players on the field. He was always on the field.

Miguel demonstrated it, numerous times. I'm not the one wearing blinders. You are.

Also, "Looking back...."

Looking back, the Patriots have had Brady and a Law/Revis level CB together for 5 NFL seasons. They've won 4 Lombardis in those 5 seasons.

You know... looking back.

Law got hurt in Week 7 during 04. We won that one without him.
