First off, nothing was proven. The balls couldve very well have lost deflation due to weather. Nobody knows. Nothing has been proven.

However, even if the balls were purposely deflated.....

It was such an insignificant amount. It had no bearing on the outcome of the game whatsoever.

It would be like going 64mph on a street that has a 60mph limit. Everybody goes a little over the speed limit. Most sensible police officers have a certain amount of leniency and would not arrest you for this. It would be a slap on the wrist warning and that's it.

What's happened with delfate gate is like being caught going 64mph in a 60mph street and being arrested, taken to court, put in jail for 4 weeks, and losing your car for 2016.

But what about the integrity of the game? This has NEVER been about the integrity of the game. Nobody cared when Aaron Rodgers admitted he likes balls overinflated. Nobody cared when Jerry Rice said he used stick'um. Nobody wouldve gave 2 ****s if the Browns had been caught deflating balls. People only cared because they hate the Patriots for being so successful. They want a reason to justify their hate. "I cant stand them cuz theyre cheaters!". I find it funny that so many people hate on success. Only a born loser or a jealous person would hate success.

From the very beginning this was about people in the league office and media trying to bring the Patriots down. Kraft knew this from the start and that's why its so bothersome that he folded and let them win.

George Brett, pine tar incident. Once they realized what it was about the league dropped it.
Good call.

One difference looking back is that George Brett was furious and wasnt afraid to show it.

Brady is in hiding and Kraft rolled over.

Brett was exonerated in the end.... I don't think the Pats and Brady ever will be.

The analogy I would use?

NASCAR. The NFL is becoming NASCAR.

The drivers and teams are always sniping and snitching on each other. He's using a non-conforming restrictor plate! His car is too light! His car is too low to the ground!

He cut me off in the corner! He passed me in pit row!

The outrage.

For a macho sport, stock car racing has a lot of hysteria going on.

And I think that's where the NFL is headed.

Knew this is how this would play out. Jets skip by scott-free with the obvious tampering charge and the LO absolutely hammers NE over the most obscure insignificant rule that no even knew about until after the fact.

I don't see how anyone can't recognize the bias towards the Patriots coming from the very top of the League Office. They suspend the Browns GM for the 1st 4 games of the season and he loses $250 grand (so what he still did the draft and decides the 53), The Falcons loose a 2016 5th and $350 grand (big deal) and the Jets get fined a case of beer (are you F**ckin kidding me? a $100 grand?

Then comes NE. After a game that could have been played with a tomamto can. Unfathomable. The Jets hatred is a cancer that occupies 345 Park Ave. We'll never get a fair shake from them if we keep winning.

or...

being clocked by cop #1, going 62 mph in a 60 mph zone,
while cop #2 clocked you going 58 mph in a 60 mph zone

neither one locked in the number, but "they remember those results"

You are arrested, taken to court, put in jail for 4 weeks, and you lose your car.
They claim that cop #2's radar obviously was not working right, or that maybe his memory was just faulty.

The "caught speeding" analogy is one that I have thought was perfectly appropriate. Actually it isn't really perfectly appropriate because they weren't "caught" doing anything, but after a huge stretch of imagination and a poor investigation they were judged to be guilty.

Fact is the Panthers were caught red handed heating balls on a cold day in Minnesota. Why would they do such a thing? Because heating balls on a cold day makes them easier to grip, throw, catch and handle. As punishment, they got a letter of warning, and not even a terribly sternly worded one at that.

The Patriots were accused of deflating balls in order to make them easier to grip, throw, catch and handle. They got a $5 million, 14-week investigation, were found guilty on the flimsiest of evidence, lost a 1st rounder, a 4th rounder, were fined $1 million, and were given a 4 week suspension for the best QB in football.

Even if the Patriots were guilty (which the evidence does not support but let's pretend for the sake of argument), it absolutely, positively does NOT serve the interest of fairplay, competitive balance and integrity of the game to hold one team to a standard so obscenely higher than everyone else. :mad:

And dad has drinks with the judge and "reluctantly" tells you it will be better for everyone to accept the penalties.

Actually it was your friend who more probably than not was speeding. But you were more probably than not at least generally aware that he had been driving so your driver's license is suspended for 4 weeks.

Well, your first of all is wrong, because it WAS due to the weather. The scientific effect of cold on air pressure is not an opinion.

Beyond that, it's not about whether or how much it would have helped, it is about conspiring to cheat. If someone went through the trouble it would take to do something like this, they are blatantly cheating and do not care. What if it was an accusation of paying off the refs, in a blowout? Its the act of cheating that is the issue, not how good they were at choosing how to.

This is why Kraft stabbing the team in the back is such a serious issue.

Its more like a cop sees 2 speeders and gives them both written warnings. Then he hears that you like to speed when you drive... but he takes a nap and wakes up to see you possibly, maybe going a mile over the speed limit, but he didn't use the radar so he totally bullshits the readings, and then has his department run a 4 month long investigation into proving that you were in fact generally aware that your speed may have been over that of the posted limit... then he sentences you to life imprisonment, solitary confinement and takes your life savings. That's how ridiculously over the top the Pats' punishment is compared to that of the Vikes/Panthers. :mad::mad::mad:

I've heard the curved stick in hockey and I think that's a great one. Teams have called out players in the past on the rule, the refs check the stick and I believe the player serves a bench minor (2 minute penalty) if it's found to be out of the regulated range.

The only difference here is the 'sinister' nature of this violation, taking the balls in the bathroom to tamper with them is rightly seen as an underhanded tactic, even if it still amounts to a minor equipment violation with almost no discernible benefit. And in this case there's no proof--in fact the science (as we're seeing more and more) backs the Pats on this one.

But yea, this is a stick curved too much in hockey. Except if it was Wayne Gretzky doing it and everyone in hockey was jealous of him and wanted to bring him odwn.

And your buddy has a text message on his phone that calls himself "Speedy".

The "caught speeding" analogy is one that I have thought was perfectly appropriate.

Almost appropriate. They actually got caught at 64, the cop planted weed in the glove compartment and hit himself with the gun in order to arrest the driver for assault and lack of cooperation.

Wells made a reasonable but wholly unspecific plausibility argument (McNally's dubious texts and behavior) that the Pats and Brady might be guilty of the same kind of offense that the NFL has not punished clearly proven cases of in the past (heaters, Rodgers' confession).

Plot to My Cousin Vinny. Two kids walk into the Sak o Suds convenience store and shop lift. When they exit the Sak o Suds they are immediately charged with murder.

32 NFL owners went camping. One who looks somewhat like Ned Beatty got violated and hugged it out with the violator and asked that everybody please never speak of it again to end the rhetoric.

The Romans crucifying Jesus;
The trial of Socrates;
King Joffrey ordering Ned Stark's execution;
The Cambodian Killing fields;
The Bataan death march;
The Holocaust;
The 2008 bailouts of the "too big to fail" banks;
it's like all the greatest historical and fictional miscarriages of justice rolled up into one. Best analogy I can think of.

And the Police station confiscated the car which had a memory chip that recorded all speed, acceleration and time data. They looked at the data on the chip, erased it and sent the car home with his parents. Then hired a law firm that specializes in manipulating physics to support a conclusion and come up with that since E=mc^2 that it was more plausible than not that you were speeding because of the relative time differential recorded from other cars on that highway 6 minutes after they had clocked you. All the while ignoring the fact that since the moon was in tangent to venus that day that the gravitational effects on the radar gun would have accounted for the 2.2 mph descrapany. Mean while on a radio show a guy named Felger and his puppy Mazz discuss how E could never equal mc^2 because it is impossible to multiply the letters of the alphabet.
