"Why don't you guys go down to the gym and pump each other?"

Haha

Sadly I wasn't invited to the gym sessions. My friend is another former college player here that's bounced around as a D tackle on a few practice squads and as a back up. He's going to play up in Canadia for awhile.

I don't think Id be able to keep up with the pair of them

Interesting.

With Darius Fleming, Matt Wells, Chris White, Jonathan Freeny, Dekoda Watson, James Morris, Eric Martin, and now Dane Fletcher, this position is enormously deep. Not including the four potential starters or edge players. Good quality depth.

The Patriots normally keep two ST/coverage/back-up inside LB types. That's two of those eight.

On the other hand, we could point to other positions that seem light.

The case can be made for 1-3 of these 8 linebackers. Last year, we had an average of 2.3 LB's on the field when we were on defense. It could be argued that 5 linebackers is enough.
DE - 5
DT - 5
LB - 5
CB - 5
S - 5
It would be good to have a 5th LB like Fletcher who can actually play defense in addition to being a top special teamer, the major requirement of the 5th LB. With Spikes as one of backups, we need a second backup who can cover.

Our front 7 is looking really good. I liked Fletcher when he was here, gives us some real depth along with Spikes at LB. Our special teams should be really good as well.

Log jam at linebacker let them compete for his spot.
Trade him for a pick or a defensive back

2015 Patriots : The greatest STs unit in the history of the NFL ! I predict trick punts on 2nd down and more "special TDs" than Cleveland or Jacksonville get on O.

IF everyone stays healthy, I would definitely trade Mayo. We have proven that we can win without him. I have always thought Mayo was an elite run defender but average in coverage w/ below awareness in zone coverage. I have posted in years past that Fletch wasn't too far behind Mayo and that was before his recent run of injuries.

Perhaps, one or both won't be ready to start the season, but still be on the roster. In any case, we have now have solid backups.

One of them will as PUP doesn't count against roster, so that is insurance for if someone else goes down.

Good to have Fletcher back, always had great open field speed. Good on passing downs or in spy.

At the very least provides good injury insurance in case DH or JM are a little behind schedule.

Like most of you have already said :D

Front 7 is definitely set. Now gotta see what the plan is at CB.

can fletch play corner?

welcome back dane.

Nothing will put your ego in check like watching a footballer workout in person.

Stop trying to make Fletch happen. It's not going to...

Whoops, Fletch did happen after all.
