Kraft and other sports figures despised in Boston

Allowing something to happen is a conscious decision... many teams have meddling owners, Jerry Jones from Dallas, Snyder from DC etc. have produced mediocre results.

You can argue this from many different perspectives, but Kraft created an environment in which he allowed this winning culture to exist.. from a decent stadium, to great practice facilities, to great locker rooms, training areas, meeting rooms etc.

Yes, I agree that Kraft has many positives, and I have pointed that out here many times.

This is different though. This goes to his allegiance to the Pats and their fans. He clearly chose the other 31 owners, his dream team, over us. Is there some strategy that nobody is seeing?

I share your conflict, but the positives of Mr. Kraft far outweigh the negatives.... I do not understand why he made this decision.

Kraft defenders who argue that there must be some secret plan are acting on on what they want to believe despite all evidence to the contrary. There is indeed a future for them in Kraft's NFL.

Besides Kraft, who are other hometown sports figures we've come to despise?

Bill Buckner comes to mind....
buckner was awesome. he was the original dirt dog long before there was one. he always played hard and hurt. he never should have been in game 6 against the mets. his ankles were a mess. you have been duped by the media. if anybody lost that game it was either gedmen or bob stanley. take your pick. you can blame macnamara for putting buckner in the game to.

People really hated harry sinden for most of the 80s & 90s when the bruins had really good teams but always cheaped out at trade deadline...but nothing comes close to Baghdad Bob's antics of the last few days...Harry Sinden has chunks of Krafty Bob in his stool as far as I'm concerned:mad:
I blamed JJacobs not sinden. jacobs wouldn't let sinden spend the money for free agents. As long as the bruins were relatively competitive, the garden would sell out, and the fans would by beer and hotdogs etc. THAT is what jacobs cared about. $$$$$$$$

He told us exactly who he was aligned with. It's not that difficult to understand but it's difficult to admit that we've been fooled.

So many, like RS coach McNamara, Patriots Management and coaches in the past, J. Jacobs, etc. It's hard not to think of a franchise that doesn't have it's fair share of bums, past and present included. That goes for players as well. Hell, Yawkey is revered in legend around here, but as an owner he was an abomination. Jean wasn't any better.

Bruins: Grapes. Glen Wesley. Jacobs
Sox: Harry Frazee.
Pats: Victor Kiam. Asante.
Celts: Ray Ray. Wicks. Rowe.

Grapes? Don Cherry was the best HC the Bs have had in the last 40 years except for maybe Pat Burns.

Wicks & Rowe remind me that I forgot to add Y John Brown & his bimbo wife to the list.

Agreed on Grapes but the too many men on the ice call unfairly portrayed him as a coach who hurt the team.

I don't know the details, but I firmly believe that something significant occurred between Goodell and Kraft late last weekend which caused BK to do a 180 in his approach to this situation. Multiple theories abound and I don't know what the truth is, but something went down. I wonder if we'll ever know.

I think there is a huge difference in say a player who made a bad play in a big spot (i.e. Buckner, Welker, et al) and say an Ulf Samuelson who basically ruined a guy's career with a cheap shot. Ulf deserves all the hate and vitriol thrown his way because he meant to do it! Buckner et al, just made a mistake.

Kraft's betrayal is ( in my opinion) beyond all of them, because he has given legitimacy to false accusations and tainted the Pats, their championships, Brady and BB! Some say that him sueing the league would have been useless, I say BS, even if if was futile, it would have shown that the Pats refute the lies against them, instead he has legitimized them, and for that, he is to be reviled, hated, and severely booed at every public appearance.

Tom E Curran is fighting more for brady, than the owner who Brady has made a rich man!

If I was Brady, I don't think I could get past this betrayal. It would be like stabbing your own brother in the back. How do you repair a relationship after that?

Buckner gave it his all. He made a mistake. If making a mistake gets you "despised" in your book then I guess I've made enough mistakes in my life to be despised aplenty by you.
Buckners ankles were shot.

Besides, the Red Sox had more opportunities to still win.

I dont understand why buckners name is even mentioned in this thread. the whole buckner thing is a media creation that they focused on. its similar to the local media always bringing up the dave roberts steal when the 04 team comes up. nice steal but the guy they should have been talking about is bill mueller and the clutch base hit off mariano rivera to drive roberts in. typical media.

I am responding to the Ted Williams picture rather than your text. Back in my youth, a lot of fans
attended Red Sox games to boo Ted and provoke a reaction from him. He was punished once
for indicating what the fans should do to themselves.

Harry Sinden letting Bobby Orr walk was a kick in the gut. The Blackhawks of all teams when they played a huge role in hurting Orr.

Kieth Magnusson was a Sob.

it came out years later that Orr's agent, Eagleson (now disbarred) , who later went on to head the NHL player's union, kept Sinden's last offer which included a piece of ownership from Orr.

I agree with what you have said.

I'm one of those who does believe that something happened/was said between Goody and Bob in SF. Maybe Goody apologized privately and that was good enough for Bob? Maybe there is a double-secret deal in the works? Maybe he talked to Brady's team and they have a better attack angle than Bob which would explain that stupid comment to Larry King.

I just don't think Bob caves in like this without something seismic in nature being brought to his attention.

I think it's between the NFL and the NFLPA - this is the case the players want to use to garner more control and so the owners will stand together to keep them in their place.

Yeah. Recent success shouldn't detract from the fact that Jacobs is awful.
