The not discussed penalty

I haven't seen this discussed, but if the Pats obtain another number one pick, the team loses the higher of the two picks. So the league adds to the penalty by interfering with the ability to conduct normal operations.

Right. The Pats don't have a first rounder and would be silly to do anything to replace it.

How would they obtain another 1st round pick... right now their first pick is at #64, how to they go from there to a 1st round pick.

? We don't know when they will pick in 2016, and they could make a trade for a pick (or they could offer future picks, though that would be out of character for them).

I think the league was scared Garapolo would look good during the suspension and we'd end u with a really good pick for him. So just to make sure that couldn't happen, this poison pill goes in. Or even, dare I say it, Brady being traded.

Bottom line, if they force Garapolo in, they can't have us getting a nice #1 out of the suspension.

We traded these guys for firsts; Bledsoe, Branch and Seymour. After this season, Chandler Jones will have one year left. Say, we're happy with Sheard and the two picks; Grissom and Flowers. We think he wants too much on a long-term deal. He has a year left. What if Garropolo shines and a team in Top 15 loves him? There should be no bleepin restriction on what we get for him.

Can you imagine if the Pats end up with a very low 1st round pick low 20s to high 30s, and then during day one of the draft the Pats trade for #18.

I assume the NFL would immediate confiscate it. If Brady is exhonerated and the Wells report destroyed, it would almost be worth it to allow the people watching the draft to see how petty and vindictive this whole punishment was.

Make no mistake about it, the loss of the 1st round pick to try and bring the Pats back to the pack is probably the most important punishment the NFL wanted to levy on the Pats.

Complete BS, shows how petty and vindictive those clowns are. If the penalty on the trumped up charge is their 1st rounder, than that should be their penalty. To say that they essentially can't acquire another one is ridiculous.

That is a lot of speculation and what might happen...

Right. What if they after the 2015 season decide to <gulp> trade Brady and he fetches a mid round selection.

The league's penalty has way too all -encompassing.

Pats are getting talent in the 4th round, maybe the next year NFL will ban the pats from the 4th round and will change the compensatory pick formula, PARITY!!!

They did take our 4th in 2017.

This is the first I heard about this ruling. WTF? First thought I had was the Patriots might trade for a first rounder. What if Garapolo puts on a show (could happen) and a team drafting one or two wants him. We can't make that trade or we lose the pick?
Any other team gets caught (didn't even have smoking gun) with the psi issue, does not get the penalty the Patriots received.
Ok, "FU". Time to sign the beast (free agent)!

Not a big deal ultimately... Bill trades out of the 1st all the time anyway. I would think that if Bill traded Jones or Garoppolo he would just trade for a package of picks to get around the punishment - something like a second, third, fourth and a future second, instead of a first.

Yea, BB will strategically choose the best option. Whenever Bill trades out of the first round he gets "more" picks. This was the commissioner's "I'll show you whose boss". I'll put my money on Bill.

Right, Bill frequently trades his first away for several lower picks, what's to say he wouldn't just trade for those several lower picks to begin with?

I remember reading somewhere that someone asked about trading for Garoppolo, and was told he's one of those players that isn't available.

Nope.

In 2008 Pats had the #7 & #31 pick. The #31 pick was the one that was taken away.

It's the NFL torpedoing the Patriots under the 1/2 baked pretext of "deflategate."

I'm very unconvinced that the Patriots ever cheated but I'm 100% certain that the NFL is.

Eff the NFL*
