I would have liked for them to do more at CB (WR too), although Roberts has a lot of upside if he can be coached to turn his head. But, in all, it's a solid draft at first peak. The Richards reach, to me, was made up for when they got good value for both Mason and Jackson.
UPDATE: NFL.com gives grades for the AFC East. Jets with a well-deserved A. Patriots with a C+. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...rades-mike-maccagnan-crushes-first-jets-draft
New Jets GM Mike Maccagnan really has impressed a lot of people. The 1990 Trinity grad (Hartford, Conn.) really laid a good foundation with far fewer picks. I like how he nails a player at a need position, whether it be OLB, QB, WR, etc., which compares with us taking players who were not sure how they'll be utilized but we all trust in Belichick.
My draft grade on your Grading is an F--.Value picks: Malcolm Brown, Trey Flowers…and that's it.
Could've had them later: Geneo Grissom, Shaq Mason, Matthew Wells, AJ Derby.
Don't see the fit here: Tre Jackson, Xavier ****son.
Criminally negligent wastes of precious draft capital: Jordan Richards, Joey Cardona.
D-
New Grade. I think they could have got more value and drafted Jordan Richards a lot later and Grissom a little later. Assuming they could do this they would have maximized value and i like both players.
Overall looking right now i give the grade a rare A.
If they could have gotten more value and still have gotten Richards and Grissom and have gotten more players after round 4 it would have been an A+ which I have never given for a full draft.
I don't think you should be giving out A+ unless you get a potential HOF prospect. And personally, I wouldn't give an A as a grade unless I thought one of the prospects was going to be one of the best in the league at his position. For now, at best this draft is a B+ and I'd give it a B or B- until we see these guys actually play a meaningful game.
In truth, draft grades shouldn't be given out for at least two years, but I understand the impulse and need for earlier grades.
I take it then that you're OK with Jordan Richards & Nice Guy Joey Carboney.
