Another home run hit by Curran on the shadiness of the league and Wells

Mort isn't going to go to jail for refusing to testify in a civil case. At worst, he will be fined for contempt of court that ESPN will pay.

Well that may seem correct but it is not what the law says. This quote is from the first link and the second link is if you want more information. Many do not realize is that those who fail to pay child support is put in jail not under criminal charges but under civil contempt charges.

And yes Mort can go to jail for contempt in a civil court law suit. Especially one that would be this high profile.

Punishment for Civil Contempt of Court vs. Criminal Contempt of Court

Unlike criminal contempt sentences, which aim to punish the act of contempt, civil contempt sanctions aim to either: (1) restore the rights of the party who was wronged by the failure to satisfy the court's order; or (2) simply move an underlying proceeding along. Civil contempt sanctions typically end when the party in contempt complies with the court order, or when the underlying case is resolved.

Like those charged with criminal contempt, the court may order incarceration of people held in civil contempt. However, unlike individuals charged with criminal contempt, people held in civil contempt are generally not given the same constitutional rights that are guaranteed to criminal contempt defendants.

Those held in civil contempt generally must be given notice of the contempt sanctions and an opportunity to be heard, but usually are not guaranteed a jury trial. Also, their contempt does not need to be proven beyond a reasonable doubt, while criminal contempt charges must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. Finally, criminal contempt involves a specified sentence (jail and/or fine), while civil contempt sanctions can be more indefinite, lasting until either the underlying case is resolved or the party in contempt complies with the court order.

This is the topic of a thread I posted yesterday, going further if it were discovered that the footballs weren't tampered with, that his minions were running a sting that Wells was assigned to cover up. Goodell would be finished.
And it would look bad for the NFL, it would put the brakes on the money train, BK knows that and I'm betting Goody and the owners talked to BK about what would be down the road if he took that path. Ultimately it's why he caved. It would look bad for 31 but good for 1. I'm just wondering what BK taking a bullet for the morons gets him. I know they lost any money they'd get from me for a long time if not the rest of my life (I'm getting up there).

That would be enjoyable. Very.

I really want Curran to ask about why the colts tampered with our ball. There's proof in the report.
They wanted evidence. They measured the ball. Called Grigson. Grigson screamed at Kensil and he and rest of the brown shirts moved in.

Not sure why brady's defense will involve mort. Its only going to try and shred any evidence the wells report has of implicating tom. The fight with mort etc wouldve been done by the patriots/kraft which is not happening. Brady;s lawyers are not out to prove that nfl tried to sting the pats , only to exonerate tom .

Too bad other media outlets aren't picking this up

Wait... we're back to The Shield*?
Not the Michael Chiklis one, the one that protects journalists from revealing their sources.. However, if they felt Mort knew it was false and acted recklessly, ay be they could sue him. Then press would turn on Brady in lockstep...not likely .......

I understand covering for sources but when it's outright lies fed to create problems for a target then I don't think the journalist has a leg to stand on, they should have to give up the source of the slander. Mortensonin is complicit in slandering Brady and the Patriots and he should be a target in their legal action.

I love what Curran and others are doing in peeling back the covers on the league office and The Wells Report and rally hope the will become key factors in Brady's legal action. The league office is covered in slime and needs a serious bleaching.

unfortunately nothing any writer prints or reports at this point either positive or negative will change anything. The only thing that matters is can the NFLPA and Kessler get Brady his games back, Im betting 50/50.

Great article by Curran. It is very frustrating reading this and articles from Florio. This situation isn't fair.

while looking for something else, I came across this tweet that I'd forgotten about:

yeah in other words, we are tired of seeing the Pats being so successful so they must be cheating.

Hmm......I got it. PSI in footballs

lets go to work boys. What can we do with PSI in footballs.....

I GOT IT....

YES THEY CHEATED.....

WE GOT YOU NOW!!

I'm familiar... was having fun :)

Actually Brady already has that proof simply from Mort's report which was STATED TO BE from an "NFL source"
All Brady's atty has to do is call Mort to the stand and ask the question in your Report of such and such a date stated that the Patriots balls measured at half time of the AFC championship game were 2Lbs below the league requirements of 12.5 Lbs. Is that correct. Answer yes: and You further stated your source was an NFL official is that correct.
Even if Mort made made this report up himself he will answer YES to this question.
A follow up question may be, Was this source known too you as a present employee of the NFL, Answer YES. Was this an NFL source you had used before, Answer YES, Was the previous info this NFL source gave you accurate, Answer YES: While Brady's Atty may ask for the NFL source's name it is not necessary to know that. There is no need for Mort to reveal a specific name in his testimony.

Brady will be suing the NFL not a specific person working as an employee for the NFL. While this may seem like it is not enough there is precedent in employee defamation civil law that an employer can be held responsible for what his employes say and in particular when the Company name is used as veracity to give the report more credibility.

This becomes more damning when it is revealed that this lie could have been squashed in less then 24 hrs with a simple press release.

Now add the fact that NFL sent Kraft an Email stating that one of the Pats balls was measured at 10.1 lbs when in fact not one of the Pats Balls measured anywhere near that low.

Now add that after, i think it was 80 days the NFL finally sent Kraft another Email listing all of the true measurements recorded at half time for all the Pats balls. But even then they would not send them to him until he agreed to NOT DIVULGE THESE TRUE NUMBERS TO THE PRESS.

If the NFL is this BOLD and ARROGANT with these things that are pretty much in the open what do you think Brady's Lawyers will find in discovery even with an all weekend shedding party the smoking guns will still be there. The NFL ARROGANCE KNOWS NO BOUNDS.

I so hope Brady takes this to the WALL. GO PATS

I think this is great - but I'd take it one step simpler

Fact: Call it a sting or not but the NFL was aware of stated concerns of ball deflation and indeed took action at half time. Mike Kensil was apparently even licking his chops about the big F'n trouble the Patriots were going to be in. http://larrybrownsports.com/football/mike-kensil-told-patriots-youre-in-big-f-ing-trouble/261974

The only problem? There was NO DEFLATION according to the "best recollection" of the lead official on the matter of measuring the PSI

Now call me crazy, but "what was the PSI before and later" is pretty much the critical piece of information here - and that was known initially and immediately as THAT'S THE FRIGGEN POINT of the whole thing, and did not require a $5 million 103 day investigation to determine (contrary to all the leaked reports) that NO DEFLATION OCCURRED

So why, Mr. Goodell and Mr. Kensil, did this circus play out when "the best recollection" of the lead official showed that no deflation occurred? Why did so many other false anti-Patriot leaks continue to come out of the NFL's front office for so long when the PSI was known?

Why did we even GET to the question of whether Brady should or shouldn't have to subject his personal emails and texts to ANYONE'S review when NO DEFLATION OCCURRED!

So tell us Mr. Goodel and Kensil, why exactly are the Patriots and Brady being punished?

Again, in case you missed it, according to your own $5 million report, and the statement of the lead official, NO DEFLATION OCCURRED outside of what physics explains
