Anyone know why Tom's camp has been so silent during this whole thing? I mean, not even any statements like "Mr. Brady denies..." We've seen his endorsement ratings plummet, and I can't help but think that if his camp had been even a tiny bit vocal, they probably wouldn't drop that much. I mean, we have Tom's stance based on his press conference and pre-Wells report interviews and we have Don Yee's interviews as well, but I still think they have been very quiet.

Roger Goodell says he wants to talk to Brady directly, and then silence from Brady's camp. Clearly his reasons for holding back on giving his phone to the NFL has not been articulated enough. Even if these issues have been addressed, they are buried in footnotes and blurbs.

I get it...maybe they don't want to get him in the mud and dignify some of the garbage out there, or maybe they realize he will just need to take his punches now, maybe to come back firing with cannons when the timing is right...maybe...I dont know. I just know that right now, he is losing in a landslide in the battle of public opinion and I don't even know that an ultimate reversal of his suspension will undo a lot of this damage.

I'm not advocating that he shove his way to the podium and shout his innocence to the masses, but I do wonder why there is so little activity from his camp in their efforts to remind everyone that this is the great, irreproachable Tom Brady.

I believe the NFL camp is trying to goad them into revealing their hand ... not happening.

I like his camps strategy so far ... they cannot win the media battle as there are too many beholden to the NFL for their paychecks and popularity. Matt Light, and Bruschi and Chatam and several reporters are doing a great job asking great questions ... but it won't sway the hate. They will do their speaking and take their actions on the playing field ... just as Tom has always taken his actions on the playing field. They may not sway the hate ... but they will intensify it when they win.

Tom can play this game ... he's been playing it his entire athletic life.

In retrospect the Patriots organization putting out that website was a bad idea, especially considering Kraft ****ed out at the last moment. In fact it could be argued that Kraft only signed off on that site in the first place because he knew he wasn't going to fight but wanted to have his cake and eat it too. So he tried (and failed) to placate the fans with it. It's better that Brady and the PA keep things close to the chest and then lay it all out in an official setting.

When he proves the sting by Kensil er al, and blows up the Wells report, then it will just the core haters, much of the damage will be undone.

As ever, Tom's waiting for the routes to develop.

This is it in a nutshell.

I realize people want to see Brady say "I am innocent" and say it on every show and in every newspaper. But you have to understand to do so is to risk victory. Essentially Brady would be doing the same thing Goody and his lops are/were doing; over defining their argument/position to the point it would be difficult to change later. Further, as you saw with the College statement he made, he would be opening himself up to his words and posture being parsed and parsed and ridiculed (IMHO he should have said "I'm innocent, period" at the college then not spoke another word about it). Even one innocent slip of the tongue could have limited the power of the argument they would make down the line.
Bottom line, Brady had no chance in the media to win the initial argument, almost zero. He was going to be smeared regardless of how much he rambled on about the case and yelled "innocent!". Remember, as much as Brady is a superstar, A list celebrity, wealthy, he is a Ford Focus with a pea shooter attached to it going up against an M1 tank. He's small potatoes compared to the massive nature of the NFL.

So consider: (a) Brady was going to lose the PR battle and lose big, period. (b) when Brady's Team makes its response it will be their FIRST response. Their official, on the record counter argument to the NFL. (c) If it is a near certainty you were going to lose the first few rounds, isn't it optimal to keep quiet in order to run the Wells Report, the previous and current memes/banter, all the NFL statements/postures through the thought process over and over, then put forth your first argument?

I think the PR strategy needs to take a back seat to the legal strategy. He has great lawyers and he is smart to stay quiet and let them handle things. It's frustrating right now, but it's the right move.

Good post. Tom's goal is to reduce his suspension to zero games. The PR strategy will take care of itself.

No need to lay out his cards right now, there will be plenty of time to do so.. if he responds to the goading of Goodell then he plays their game, instead of his..

Very confident that Brady and his legal team have a very sophisticated legal strategy in place.. no need to talk about it publicly.. also confident that his team has all the correct paperwork to file this in a Federal Court...

This is over his "failure to cooperate", his failure to turn over his private cell phone... when the NFL already had in possession the cell phones of the two other alleged conspirators.. the whole thing is bullshyt, and has completely gone off of the rails...

I think Goodell may be getting more than what he bargained for...

PR is ammo for the other side, more often than not. The league gave Brady's camp plenty, especially with that moronic Ted Well's conference call. Brady and the NFLPA see court as a very real option. No doubt he's been advised to keep to himself about the entire situation.

Think of Goodell as a junky. He needs a constant supply of power and attention. Feels good, but like most addicts, Goodell is sacrificing his future for short term gratification. Every suspension is like putting a band around his arm and shooting up with some black tar goodness. More and more people will notice the tracks on his arms if he keeps doing it, but for now the guy is high on power and his parents are looking the other way because he got good grades on his last report card.

PR wont change minds around the country, it'll only be taken out of context and ridiculed. Brady isn't sheltered or stupid. He knows he is famous for being 'infamous.' If New England fans were buying into the 'reporting' from the BSPN branch of the NFL's propaganda network, he might care to say something. He sees the support from the region he cares about, and, for now, I bet that's good enough for him.

I'm a little suprised his wife hasn't said anything on FB in support (not even change profile pic? :D). Maybe he told her to stay quiet.

None.

He was just a great, handsome athlete. Now he's a great, handsome, bad boy athlete, going to the barricades against a corrupt League of Old Uglies. Play it out.
