I remember being 8 years old and my dad taking me to my first football game, Patriots vs. Dolphins. At that time, Dan Marino was cool and I really wanted to see him. My dad took me down near the Dolphins bench and yelled to Don Shula; of course, Don didn't turn around because he was busy preparing the the game; after trying to get his attention for a few minutes, my dad said:
"Don Shula. You are a great coach."
I never heard my dad praise an opponent like that, so to me, it was a big deal, and I always though if my dad went out of his way just to say that to Shula, he must be worthy of respect.
Of course, now my dad hates Shula just as much as the rest of us. There's just nothing that can be gained by trying to make yourself feel better by putting down others, especially those who are also worthy of respect. And of course, the media is already doing their own sh*tting on BB and Brady; Shula is just piling on. The '72 Dolphins stuff in 2007 was disgusting, and it's so funny that Shula talks about great sportsmanship and class, when he is now one of the Top 5 biggest POS in professional sports. What a total ****. If he had just kept his mouth shut, he would have been naturally revered higher, but he just can't help himself. He lost the reverence he once had and will never get it back. Miserable, vindictive old man. Doesn't have 1% of the class of BB.
