Amanda Knox.

For the last few years, I've had a running duel on various boards with people who are convinced, absolutely convinced that Amanda Knox is a horrible murderer who "got away with it."

This is especially the case with British citizens, with whom I've had conversations on the Guardian website.

Their logic goes like this:

Amanda is a privileged pretty girl and deserves what she gets.

Amanda is a Yank. Yanks are horrible. Also, Guantanamo, the Iraq War, Vietnam, blah blah.

What about Meredith Kercher's family? Spare a thought for them.

Americans lock up innocent people all the time. So, serves her right.

She looks guilty.

And on and on. Any time I try to engage one of these haters in a conversation as to whether or not she actually killed someone, the conversation gets derailed into a rant about how awful America is, Amanda's sexual habits, she pouted in the courtroom. Why don't I just admit that she's guilty?

I'm having the same conversation about the Pats around the interwebs. Just try to talk to someone about whether or not the Pats actually tampered with footballs. It's futile. The conversation always veers into how the Pats "have always been cheaters," the "Golden Boy," why don't you just give it up and admit that they cheated?

It's depressing.

I know the Pats are universally hated, but can't we rely on fans around the league to rationally think about this? Don't they recognize when someone is being railroaded? Is it okay to treat someone unfairly when that person happens to be someone you don't like?

Maybe I'm stretching on this.

But, I can only hope that, like in Ms. Knox's case, the truth eventually comes out.

Guilty or not, she's hot.

As for the Patriots thing, confronting idiots is waste of time. They will always say cheaters and just admit it. Since Kraft caved it makes their argument even easier. Why confess to something you didn't do? Idk. Guess all people arrested should commit to their crimes even if innocent...

She is guilty. She got away with murder. Or at least covering up for someone. How the **** does someone end up dead in your small apartment and you know nothing about it?!

Bad analogy.

I wrote a long response to this but the forum went down right when I hit reply and it never went through. So, the abbreviated version is that I agree in regards to how people behave - they read a headline/tweet, form an entire opinion based on that one sentence they read once, and then defend that opinion violently even though they have little to no information to base that opinion on. Sad, but that's modern society in 2015.

I don't want to get into this too much but tell
me your joking..

The guy who committed the murder had connection to Kercher not Knox. His DNA was found all over the crime scene in Kercher's room where she was killed. The prosecutions wild and ridiculous theories about Knox and her boyfriend were to please the Italian media and mob who wanted her head. Sort of similar to the Pats.

Sorry for getting into that...couldn't help myself.

I guess the analogy is closer than I thought. I do think she is guilty. Just like millions think the Pats spied on the Rams.

It's unlikely that you'll ever have constructive dialogue with people about it because the truth is that the general population in the US on average is pretty f***ing stupid. We're like 40th in education and our culture is so messed up these days with reality TV, social media and the desire for instant gratification in every aspect of our lives.

I'm not that intelligent, but I'm still smarter than almost everyone I meet

Do you also think the world is flat?

My take is that all those peoples opinions were already formed and suppressed because while they already had ****ed the bow they lacked ammunition to launch their hatred forth.
All the NFL did was provide them with the ammunition. Right, wrong, fair, unfair, truth or lies, it really did not matter. They were looking for a reason to vent their hate, it was a visceral it was primal without thought or logic the animal rather then the human side of the equation which is us all.

If the world was flat it would make things easier.
