Don't hate on Kraft just yet

Kraft has let down all of NE and cemented the Pats forever as cheaters. He should have fought spy gate with the evidence that they had that every other team was also doing it.

He should have sued the NFL, he is done, he has forever tarnished the Pats, BB, and Brady's legacy. If I'm Brady, I would demand to be traded. That would be the only way now that he can clear his name, now that his owner has stabbed him in the back.

How can he "appeal" when there's no appeal process? If he checked with his lawyers and they said he couldn't win a lawsuit, should he tilt at windmills to appease the fans?

Rather than lose a lawsuit and make goodell stronger, I hope he's working the politics to get rid of him.

He is allowed to appeal.
He didn't because he felt that questioning a Roger Goodell decision is a greater sin that calling Tom Brady a liar and a cheater.

Kraft needs to grow a set. Or get them back from his little bedroom backstop that obviously has em all sequestered in a fancy little pink fluffy jar.

"Do you like these shoes bobby"

Let's be clear. I think that Kraft could have won a law suit.

I don't. what would he sue for, exercising the unlimited power Kraft and the other owners gave him?

Seriously, I dare one person to come up with a winning lawsuit agaist the leader of this private club. Damages? Is Kraft going to say Roger's reign has made him poorer?

Who does he appeal to?

I'm not sure when you added these footnotes to your posting but I wish Kraft had read those prior to giving his statement.

"The object in life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane."
- Marcus Aurelius

“Even if you are a minority of one, the truth is the truth.”
- Mahatma Gandhi
Well, if you could get the majority, or more,on your side, you could get rid of goodell.

I understand.

Can you consider how much leverage Kraft would lose with his personal friends (the owners) and the league if Kraft were to sue the league?

I'm sure that you understand that the BYLAWS of the NFL specifically forbid a team to sue the league. You really expected Kraft to violate the bylaw of the league, in addition to opposing the power of the commissioner that he personally fought for?

Please understanding that opposing the league and suing the league when you don't get your way would put Kraft in the company of exactly ONE owner, Al Davis. Only Al Davis has opposed the league in the way that posters here expected Kraft to.

Kraft chose to accept his role as an owner, and to accept the role of the Commission that he fought for in the negotiations with the players. Kraft is very angry, and indicated that if he made the decision last week, he would have fought the decision. He waited and made what he thinks is the best business decision. Kraft does NOT want less influence and power for the commissioner's office. That can be debated in the next CBA. For now, Kraft did what was in the interests of the 32 teams, and in the interests of the NFL.

Leverage?

What the hell does that exactly mean? We have lost two 1st rounders over abject stupidity. But we have leverage?

Christ...if we had more leverage...we'd lose the entire draft.

This really would have been different Kraft would have been fighting for his teams reputation. I would not give my reputation up easily. He did. The team is indelibly branded as cheaters. It taints everything and he rolled over.

But he may have more leverage.

At this point, I wouldn't hate it if Brady and Belichick both said **** it and retired on the spot to leave Kraft looking like a bigger ******* than he already is.

**** him.

Actually, I'm getting mad enough that I hope Brady asks out of his contract and cuts a deal with another team.

Kraft didn't ask for a concession...so why in the world would the NFL reduce the punishment??? WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!

My theory is that we'll get some sort of concession from the NFL in a few weeks. The NFL can't look like it got strong-armed by an owner. All very hush-hush, back room type stuff.

Assuming you actually have leverage, times like the last few weeks are exactly what you're banking it for. The idea that Kraft would let himself and his team be bent over a barrel in order to bank some future leverage that he'll never be able to cash in anyway is just asinine.

This post HAS to be a joke.

Kraft would lose leverage? Too funny!

Mr Leverage just accepted the largest penalty ever for an infraction that did not occur.

Just how much less leverage could an owner have?

kraft is a sellout and a coward. kraft should do what sellouts do...sell and get out.

Why do people keep saying there is probably a back room deal somewhere in this. Stop deluding yourself. Kraft rolled over like me a good little puppy begging for a treat.

So your telling there is a chance 1 in a mill that we get 1st pick back...still sold Pats honor down the drain.

You are forgetting his mythical influence. With all his leverage and influence he gets hit with the biggest penalty for a non-existent infraction while Woody Johnson get $100K fine for an actual offense . What a pathetic joke this is.

Damn you to Hell for reminding me of this now!

Certainly KILLs mg's leverage argument.

Jets commit a blatant violation of the rules with the consequence that the #1 player joins their team.
Slap on the wrist.

Patriots are victims of a sting that "discovers" the Ideal Gas Law.
Biggest penalty in NFL history.

And then we're pissed on by a ludicrous claim "Its to preserve Kraft's leverage!""

Kraft made a judgement. I don't have the information that he has.
Good God who cares. He stabbed Pats fans and in the back and you think he might have had a secret good reason for doing so??

Yes, this is a great point and is the best argument against my thesis. I fear I am wrong. But if I am wrong, then Kraft is a ****head. And that really bums me out....
The best way to get a discussion going on the internet is to say something controversial or wrong. I think it adds to the discussion. I don't need to read a thread that's essentially one post and a bunch of +1's.

There are plenty of people here that know a ton about the Patriots, but on this issue there seem to be plenty of unknowns, so without the facts, even the smartest and most informed people are going to have trouble making total sense of things.
