OT: rumor that extra points are going to be from the 1 yard line

Get rid of the extra point all together. Make TD's worth 7 and force every team to go for 2 after scoring a TD. Problem solved, plus it makes the game WAY more exciting knowing that every 2 point try could be the difference between winning the game and losing.
Or this. I'm on board, this to me makes much more sense assuming the 2PC remains where it is, this would definitely make it more entertaining

I don't think the game lacks excitement right now I see no need to change it. All it will do is reduce the amount of tied late games and OTs. Is that really something we want?

and yes, the Pick heard round the world does prove its not "automatic" but going for a 2 pt conversion from the 1 vs the 2 yd line is a huge change IMO.

The fact that it's a huge change is the point.

I think if there was no bonus for a TD we would see more teams going for it on 4th down.

Here's my solution:

  • Teams can take an automatic 1 points.
  • Teams can go for a 1.5 point conversion from the 1 yard line.
  • Teams can go for the current 2 point conversion.
  • Teams can try to go for 3 by having an XFL-esque 'both guys run for the ball' in the center but with 2 balls and then the first one to slam dunk the ball over the opposing team's goal post gets 3 points for his team.
  • Teams can try to go for 4 with a XP attempt from the 25 but the opposing team gets to spin the kicker around for 30 seconds and then he has 10 seconds to kick the ball.
  • Teams can choose to not take the points from the TD or the conversion in exchange for nullifying the next score by the opposition.
  • Teams can choose to not score any points for the rest of the game and the season in exchange for the brutal on-camera murder of the Commissioner.

I like the idea of having more do-or-die goal line plays. Anything implemented should have at least a year delay to adjust rosters accordingly, however (i.e. to accommodate more guys who'd play in goal-line packages).

I don't see the harm in giving up ties -- a close game that can be decided on the final drive is a close game that can excitingly be decided on the final drive.

ISIS could perform a public service here

Been a fan since 1960. Never bothered me one tiny ,itsy bitsy, miniscule bit. It's FOOTBALL. WTF is wrong with this ADHD riddled generation of sports fans? You have a sub-mongoloid pushing shyt sandwiches on your plates every Sunday now with these abomination rule changes that NOBODY understands...touchdowns aren't touchdowns...balls are flat oh wait...may be not but...let's mentally jerkoff for 4 months about it while I, Sub-SuperMongoloidell ,rake in tens of millions of dollars running a perpetual RICO violation for the Billionaire Boys Club of America.

No more asshat rule changes, no more added games, no more braindead supersimp ref crews bought and paid for by TV executives. ENOUGH!.

Make em drop kick the extra point, that should shake things up.

I wonder if any of the owners have thought, "we're making money hand over first, maybe we shouldn't mess with the game". Probably not

3 Proposals up for discussion this week:

  1. The Patriots want PAT kicks to come from the 15-yard line and 2-point conversions from the 2.
  2. The Eagles want the same distance on the kick, but the 2-point conversion to come from the 1.
  3. if the defensive teams causes a turnover and take it to the other end zone, it gets the two points.

I think this rule may actually bring Tim Tebow back into the league as an extra point specialist to run a 1 yd sneak...just a thought

I like it. I'ld prefer they do nothing but for no other reason than games to follow the same math we have used for years.

I think this beats BBs idea to move the kick back. Who cares to see kickers not advocating getting rid off them but I am all for more actual smash mouth goal line football instead.

moving kicks to the 15 is something i absolutely do NOT want to see. I'd rather just make TDs an automatic 7 unless you choose to risk the 7th point for an 8th via 2-pt conversion.

Wow I thought they were considering pushing back the PATs not moving it closer smh. what is football anymore?. All hail roger goodell!

From the 1 yard line, you would go for 2 every time except the end of a game where 1 point wins. Kirwin ran the numbers. 2 point plays are nearly 50% successful (48%+ if I recall) from the 2 yard line. From the 1, it would be well over 50% because running from the 1 is so much easier than running from the 2 (QB sneaks, etc).

Suddenly tebow just got a contract extension.

Just spot the ball at the team's draft position and make the transformation of the league into a bad joke for the sake of parity and entertainment complete.

I prefer the extra point being moved back like Belichick wants. I don't want to see everything moved to the 1. Has anyone stopped to consider how nauseating and ******ed it's going to be if a 2 pt conversion follows the TD from the 1 yard line every score? Just try explaining that out loud to an imaginary buddy.

"What's going on?"

"We just ran it in from the 1 yard line for a score, so now we get to try to do it again only for less points."

I'm irritated just thinking about it.

Move the kick back so some people shank it more. It'll also put a premium on having a good kicker and raise the pressure. A 30 yard FG would be cool. Kickers botching the extra point will force teams to go for a 2 pt conversion to make up for it.

Increased excitement without making it seem like a weird video game.
