EDIT: Schefter Patriots get taken through the back channel by NFL

I have a feeling Mr. Kraft's interview with King woke up some of the owners. I would be disappointed if Kraft settled for anything less than what Ausbacker posted above.

It'll be a little less. In particular, Kraft has been willing to give up a late pick to just get along before (I'm thinking of the 7th rounder he basically told BB to include in the Welker deal) and perhaps a lot more than that (now I'm thinking of Spygate).

By the way, I think Kraft has interfered with BB only to the cost of two 7th round picks or so. One is the one I just mentioned. The other is insisting on a roster spot for Troy Brown when that was a bad football decision. At the time I felt the cost was cutting a 7th rounder BB would otherwise have kept; I now forget who that was.

I feel that that level of interference is wholly OK for a team owner. It's less impactful than other decisions properly within his purview, such as facilities investment or conduct standards for players.

I don't see 12 excepting any punishment. So I can't see how they can resolve anything except to rewind the whole thing and fine us 25k. And that my fine Patriot fans, just ain't gonna happen!

Could it be the NFL actually had somebody smart read the stupid report and realize... Hey this thing is a huge stinking pile of ****! Why the hell did we go ahead and punish them with the harshest sanctions in the history of the sport with literally zero proof of wrongdoing? We are going to get sued and lose our jobs! Maybe we should reconsider this?
I would guess the others owners had their own lawyers look at the report and they confirmed the nature of the pile.

Things I want:
  1. Brady's suspension overturned.
  2. The fine tabled against the Patriots dismissed.
  3. The return of the Patriots draft picks.
  4. A full and unreserved apology from Roger Goodell.
  5. An independent investigation into the sting operation.
  6. Roger Goodell being removed from office.
Missed anything?
Tar and feather Kensil?

The most important. A complete exoneration of the Pats and Brady!

No punishment, no fine.

Anything less than that would be awful precedent i.e. you can convict/punish a team and a player with ZERO evidence.

Don't forget the draft picks

I think something like this is possible
Brady suspension overturned or he will go to court and win
Pats penalty reduced to mid round pick and $100M fine.
Nothing will happen to Goodell for now.

Brady isn't going to back down without a public apology and a complete exoneration. I don't think he will buy into a backroom deal with the League.

I think these are two parallel tracks. The NFLPA will utilize the Brady opportunity to hammer the league on the CBA and get the suspension lifted - both the FACTS and the LAW appear to be on Brady's side. The question will be whether the league comes out and apologizes to Brady without facing a lawsuit. They would have to throw Wells under the bus and some sacrificial lambs from HQ (Vincent, Gardi, and Kensil).

In parallel, Kraft is wise to be doing the back channel negotiations - this does not mean compromise. It means him saying that he is confident Brady will win his case(s) and when that happens, it adds more ammunition to his claims against the league, since an exoneration of Brady will lay the foundation for proving that there is "no there, there" regarding the "crime" of deflation or the "lack of cooperation".

Kraft does not need to rush, since between him and the NFLPA, they have the league offices out maneuvered out manned. It's like a Hammer and Anvil, where Brady/NFLPA are the Anvil executing the full frontal assault and Kraft is the Hammer, waiting for the engagement to outflank and attack opportunistically while the NFL is engaged or weakened by the NFLPA. Alexander the Great used this strategy to great effect. I am assuming that Kraft is aware of this approach and is preparing to work it.

I really would love to be on the team game planning this - would be so much fun. Alexander the Great was a great example of "No Better Friend, No Worse Enemy" in the ancient world. I hope the Kraft family is thinking Victory by any means and using all the tools at their disposal. No draft picks taken , no fines, removal of bad actors in the league office, and a public apology to him personally and the franchise as a whole.

If there isnt some sort of admittance of nefarious behavior from the NFL I dont care if they reduce all penalties to zero and apologize profusely. I am done with the league.

They lied, period.

All I care about is the draft picks. The fine and suspension I can live with... Maybe we'll get some hype for Jimmy G. like Matt Flynn once got. Maybe it'll motivate Brady even more than he already is. It'll make the first four games more entertaining to me as a fan, since I have often wondered how Jimmy G. would do if Brady wasn't around.
We can make the playoffs even with the suspension. The draft picks hurt us more than anything.

I don't understand. How could you possibly talk Kraft into accepting a 4-game suspension, loss of draft picks, the biggest fine in NFL history, and the complete and irreparable damage to the Patriot Brand?! Compromising doesn't make sense

Per Kraft's earlier interview, I get the feeling the NFL is trying to resolve this via backdoor channels. The Patriots have already showed they're in the driver's seat.

I hope not. This NEEDS to go to court, so that the head of the snake can be exposed and dealt with.

NO punishment for the Pats is acceptable.

I want the letter E stricken from the English alphabet.

(I'll cave on that one later... make them think they won something)

Get our draft picks back. I don't give a crap about the fine but NO suspension and no draft picks lost.
And how about that apology. maybe in an alternate universe we'd get it.

i wonder if I could book an extended vacation there.

Prior to the punishment, I would've been all like, "Cool."

Now? **** those ****ing ****ers.

I wonder if I could use Roger Goodell's likeness to make a pinata doll (for sale of course).

Though, honestly, i'd put candy in there, but I'm not sure what crap would come out of it.

I hate to say it. Kraft is a League first guy at heart. He will ultimately cave if he can get a significant enough reduced punishment. He really doesn't have a lot of options to begin with, but he doesn't have the stomach to sue his 31 other owners.

Brady, on the other hand, will fight until he is completely exonerated or he runs out of options.
