LBs not immune: Pats release Cameron Gordon

At 89 players now, so yeah maybe they bring Fletcher back too. I would've expected Fletcher over Spikes TBH, but maybe they planned on signing both.

Making room for Adrian Peterson??????

IDK about a LB... we got 4 now and the 5th (6th guy optional) are usually just STers anyway.

Maybe we are looking to replace that CB we just cut with another DB. One that can actually play :)

A guy can hope right?

Spikes was always ahead of Fletcher when they were here before.

I was just in the CB aisle; it's been picked clean.

I'll ask the guy in charge when they expect another shipment.

The continued tweaking of the roster.. wonder if other teams do this, or is it unique to the Pats???

Looking at LB's:

Fletcher was a ST favorite, and occasional back-up in the coverage ILB role perfected by Roman Phifer.

That list includes:
Darius Fleming - ST player, has speed and some starting experience, with the Pats much of last year.
Chris White - ST leader the past couple seasons
Jonathan Freeny - ST leader targeted early in free agency
Dekoda Watson - another ST linebacker, blazing speed at 4.40 40-yard dash, but limited defensive capabilities
Matt Wells - drafted relatively high for a ST player, an undersized speedy ST linebacker

Fletcher would be in this soup. I can't see any reason to add him. One could make an argument for every name on that list. However, last year the Patriots opened with only five LB's; the year before it was seven. There are usually two or three ST linebackers each season.

One thing that pops out - Freeny signed early in free agency as a compensation-related pick, with a $1mm salary. That is, the Patriots would lose a potential compensatory pick. None of the others cost a pick; none of the others would that much salary.

I was surprised that Gordon was the Patriots priority udfa last year. He only started 15
games at Michigan. Even though they have signed Spikes, I hope they also add Fletcher.

We have 5 LB/Ster for one or two rosters spots. We could keep 5 LB and an extra DT like Chis Jones or we could sign a 6th ST/LB. In case, Gordon was not getting one of the roster spots. MAYBE, Fletcher will be brought in, or not.
