I do not think Belichick would be thinning the heard in the secondary as much as he has been if he was not very high on Butler.

How good can he be in everyone’s opinion?

Last year he compared himself to Brent Grimes. I think that's an accurate ceiling comparison (Undrafted, DII, smaller type outside CB, playmaker).

Really effin good apparently LOL

I think he has the physical tools to be that kind of CB that is a pain in the ass of opposing receivers, not so elegant or smart like the top corners of the league, but a CB that is always making a play at the ball.

I voted for solid #2, though that's what I think his ceiling is for this upcoming season. I doubt he'll make the leap from undrafted occasional contributor in year one to legitimate #1 in year 2. However, if he makes the jump up to a solid starter this year, I can see him then expanding on it in year 3.

Its a fish story right now. His play was so big in the Super Bowl and with time it only gets bigger. Until otherwise proven wrong there is no limit to how good he could be.

"When the legend becomes fact, print the legend."

To me, Butler's ceiling at CB is as high as Edelman's at WR. He's shown the skill... now he's gotta do the work. One bonus for Butler: he'll have the opportunity. Edelman really didn't until Welker left.

The hardest part for young players other than being able to play the position. They have to learn to condition themselves to play every down. I don't blame him a bit. But, he has had quite a banquet circuit going. Hoping he's conditioned himself better than he ever has.

This is one of the biggest questions I have going into this season. I do believe he has more potential than anyone else in that group but we need to see more. Plus BB must see something good in the kid to have him likely sitting at #1 on the depth chart which is I never could have imagined months after winning the a Super Bowl.

If he at least ends up an adequate #1, I'll be satisfied.

I agree why I said Rich.

I think of the term "rich man's" as having the same style but more talent. I don't view those two as the same kind of cornerback at all. Probably semantics I suppose.

His built and is known for quickness and zone coverage. Maybe a little Terrell Buckley.

??? Since when was Butler known for his zone coverage?

His Instincts and quick feet make him perfect for a zone style defense which to my knowledge everyone believes we are moving to as opposed to the man to man bump and run defense.
I would be shocked if we play man to man this season as our go to defense unless Ryan or someone else steps up huge next to Butler.
I beleive Butler can play man to man very well but who else after that on the current roster would you trust as man to man with little to no safety help?

Really good not great, like prime Quentin Jammer tier of corners would be my guess.
