I fully expect Derby to be PUPed and IRed unless Davis is cut and there are injuries. Redshirting rookies generally doesn't work but this seems like a case where it would make sense assuming he has a viable injury at the time.

You almost have to wonder, the depth at TE is so seemingly deep, imagine if Gronk, Chandler, Wright, Davis, Derby and even Hooman showed really well this offseason. Would they cut half the group, or would BB task McDaniels with implementing a super sweet 3 or 4 TE set?

So how about a set with Gronk, Chandler, Davis, Derby and Wright on the line, then suddenly Gronk splits out wide and Wright lines up in the backfield, they run the play, the line plows forward and Brady fakes a handoff to Wright, pulls it in, but then tosses it across field laterally to Derby who had slipped into the backfield a la Edelman and tosses it 30 yards to a sprinting Gronk.

Too much Tight End?

If BB can find some obscure rule to use the TEs and make opposing coaches and the media's heads explode. sign me up!

Could Tim Wright be converted back to WR, or does he lack the speed?

If you want to develop a raw player you either keep him on the roster or put him on the practise squad. By putting the player on PUP or IR you do the exact opposite to develop them as they can't practise.

But can he rush the passer?

Well, he was at Iowa before he was at Arkansas, and Iowa tried to turn him into a LB. So, perhaps, he can rush the passer. :)

I don't follow college ball so I have to trust someone other than Belichick. I value Gil Brandt's opinion on players.

People sure are down on a guy who came across in a trade with SFA time to properly integrate himself into the playbook/team. I'd like to see what Wright can do with a full offseason under his belt before throwing him out with the bathwater.

I agree. I don't remember Mr Wright dropping even one pass thrown to him.

I have to ask the obligatory Tight End question. Can he block?

Nope; Derby's now probably the worst-blocking TE on the team, and that's saying something.

Maybe they move one to CB. Not Gronk, obviously, but can you imagine the all-in blocking you'd get from a Gronk CB? If he got passed by it would be ugly but in my mind, it would look like this:

As a WR, he lacks the deep speed to beat over-the-top coverage and the agility to beat press/man coverage. He's best-served as an in-line/flanker who looks for match-ups vs LBs.
