NFL investigation of balls in AFC title game led by Pash, Wells

"The NFL issued a statement Friday to provide an update on the league's investigation if the Patriots intentionally deflated footballs in the AFC Championship Game against the Colts.

The league announced that the investigation is being led by NFL executive vice president Jeff Pash and Ted Wells, an attorney from the Paul Weiss law firm. Wells was tapped to conduct the league's investigation concerning allegations of workplace misconduct with the Miami Dolphins in November 2013."

"The investigation is being led jointly by NFL Executive Vice President Jeff Pash and Ted Wells of the law firm of Paul Weiss. Mr. Wells and his firm bring additional expertise and a valuable independent perspective.

"The investigation began promptly on Sunday night. Over the past several days, nearly 40 interviews have been conducted, including of Patriots personnel, game officials, and third parties with relevant information and expertise."

So how and when did this joint investigation with TED WELLS as MERELY additional expertise become a TED WELLS INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION; totally independent defending TRUTH, JUSTICE AND THE AMERICAN WAY???

Secondly if no one took this complaint from the Colts seriously than how did all this just happen to come together the Sunday night of the game WITH OVER 40 INTERVIEWS IN JUST 5 DAYS, wow the FBI must be envious???

Pash and Wells were the co-investigators the entire time, which is exactly why some here claimed that there could be no "independent" investigation due to the obvious ties with the league.

Wells, however, was the lead counsel--hence the "Wells report." Either way, it was tainted from the beginning.

Wells tried to relegate Pash as a secretary, basically, in his conference call, claiming that Pash simply got him connected to whatever people he needed to talk to.

Anyone who buys that, of course, is a dope.

Yes it was. Now that the tables have been turned, as it were, you can see that Wells was hired not as an "independent counsel" but as a potential scapegoat in case things went south.

It explains quite well why Wells was so damned defensive and got so bent out of shape during his conference call. I suspect he's begun to realize that he'll be the one hung out to dry now that his report didn't come in quite as expected, and that New England and Brady have a whole lot of facts to support their side of the argument.

I'm just hoping that Wells has a sufficient amount of cord wrapped around the league to bring down the front office when he himself goes under.

Yet Greg Bedard thinks Wells schooled Don Yee and came off looking great in the media conference call.

I think Bedard must have not realized the punch was spiked while visiting Felger.

Bedard is absolutely useless at anything that isn't in game analysis

The felger hosted Sports Sunday had breer and bedard on tonight. Wonder if the douche felger is refusing to have any unbiased people on because it hurts his view and makes it look like he has an agenda.

There is a significant difference between an investigative journalist and a journalist paid to give their opinion. It's something many of them have a hard time understanding.

Glad I missed it.

I firmly believe that when this started the NFL had no idea it would be this big of a deal, from releasing info to Kravitz in the middle of the night to all of the subsequent false rumors, half truths and media feeding frenzy they misjudged the overall response to this situation..

The "perverse result of unintended consequences"... after a year that featured abuse of children and women by their "stars" this was the last thing they needed...

When courses in how to manage an organization at prestigious universities are offered, this will be an excellent example on how not to to handle a "crisis" such as this.. in the big scale of things, the pressure of footballs?? Come on now...

Someone needs to tweet this to someone who has a big voice in media, well one who's at least been someone objective and might go with it

More importantly, send it to Kessler's group to make sure they realize that Pash and the NFL can't distance themselves from the report and hang Wells out to dry.
