Freeman: Goodell will Hear Brady's Appeal

I'm pretty sure it's almost twice that amount, climbing in the high 30's.

For what it's worth, I've also read that Kraft is one of only three owners who determine his salary every year, although I haven't been able to confirm this anywhere else yet.

Saw this Tweet tonight:

Since becoming #NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has md approx $115M (will make $35m this year) Tom Brady has made $149.7 on field in career

https://twitter.com/SportsTaxMan/status/599046898071244801

Kraft is on the compensation committee. I do not know how many other owners are on it.

Goodell has about 20M reasons per year not to resign over anything.

Agree. Don't think he resigns. But if he is forced out, he's already made more money than he would need in a lifetime. He can retire happy somewhere without a care in the world.

Although, he might want to consider not retiring in N.E.

I get the feeling that Roger Goodell doesn't really want to suspend Brady. That is why he: distanced himself from the punishment; waited for the Patriots to point out holes in Ted Wells report; assigned himself to hear Brady's appeal;

I think Brady's suspension will be lifted and he will be slapped with a fine for not providing his cell phone. Goodall needs to appear tough in front of other owners and fans, but he also needs to appear that he is: fair in the appeal process; willing to make improvement to procedure carried out by the league; does want to be one to destroy the legacy of the greatest QB ever to play the game.

If he gets the same $50k fine that Favre got, I won't complain/.

I will be shocked if Goodell does anything other than uphold the full 4 games.
  • Plenty of articles on how Goodell is getting strong support from the other owners for nailing Brady & NE.
  • Especially after NE called out Wells and the league office today, he would look weak if he reduced the punishment.
  • And he's a sanctimonious a**wipe.
(I want Giselle to pay for a 24x7 tail on Goodell for the rest of his life, with strategic leaks to TMZ, etc. anytime the tail finds anything interesting.)

That is really, really creepy.

Pass that pipe over here, bruh.

Who handed down the punishment? Vincent or goodell?

I mean did goodell decide 4 games and picks or Vincent?

I may be wrong, but Goodell is giving Brady an unfair labor practice suit which would allow him to sue without turning over his cell phone (which many in the media think is keeping him from suing). He would only have to do it in a defamation case.

I personally don't the cell phone is the issue that the media makes it. I think Brady didn't trust giving it to Wells because he knew Wells would twist the texts. I don't know if would be as unwilling if his lawyers could limit the scope and what can be brought into a case and how the texts are portrayed under the supervision of a federal judge.

The presumption among the media is that a) Brady is guilty and b) the incriminating evidence is on the cell phone. Just never seems to occur to them that turning over a private phone absent a subpoena and against legal advice not only sets a bad precedent but is just f'in stupid. NFL HQ probably has more to risk from discovery than anything on Brady's phone.

Yep. Goodell upholds it, Doty overturns it. Goodell looks good in the eyes of Pats haters and people that think Brady should have got suspended

Only thing is it may ultimately be his downfall, as this may infuriate Kraft even more after he upholds the suspension. Goodell must think he has the votes from the owners.

Would be hilarious if he thought he had the votes and then just before the season there is a No Confidence Vote that goes against him.

There's the answer that Goodell will give, then the one that would be really interesting to find out in discovery in an eventual lawsuit.

Normally, I would agree with you. But at this point I would think it highly likely that roger, Troy and Kensil have all switched devices since jan, and have not put a darn thing in company emails or texts.

But you never know they are apparently so full of themselves that they think they have rewritten physics, maybe they think they are untouchable

Recent Missouri Supreme Court decision came down stating it would be inappropriate for the Commissioner to hear grievances by employees of the NFL because the Commissioner can't be impartial:

Whatever Goodell decides could be subject to a lawsuit on this issue alone, using the Missouri decision as a blueprint for a legal argument against him handling the appeal personally.

Anyone else at the point where they just dont give a F anymore? I really don't care I feel like I'm in a bad sitcom.

This is BS....How is to this even allowed ? On this topic, a couple of nights ago, I was watching CNN with Anderson cooper and he had Rachel Nichols on with Drew Rosenhaus and some other guy. ( forget who)They were very pro Patriots and Brady and Rosenhaus was saying how the appeal process is a complete joke and travesty. He actually said he thought Brady was innocent. I was surprised because he has had some issue with BB in the past. The Boston guy ( media guy) was pro Patriots too. It was an interesting discussion.

I'm at the point where I'm not concerned for the Pats or Brady anymore. Ever since that Kravitz story came out, I feel the events that are taking place had to happen to truly win this and clear the Patriot's name. I see it all as points in a necessary timeline that has to run its course.

brady's doomed. no chance in hell goodell overturns the suspension.
the nflpa is a joke anyway.

brady's gonna have to go to court over this ****. im surprised goodell took the case himself so quickly.

Like this was ever in doubt. That arrogant bastard would never agree to an independent arbiter. This is going to court and will drag.

how long will this drag out then?? by the time it goes to court, brady's 4 games will be up.

Also as a reminder, Troy Vincent was seen as heir apparent to Gene Upshaw as head of the NFLPA until accusations that he was secretly colluding with Goodell in order to further his own advancement in the union in return for undermining the players' bargaining position and buckling to the owners, all the way back in 2009 or so. There was even a federal investigation that turned up documentation that the two had a secret meeting together. I don't know the result of that investigation, but I guess there must have been no direct evidence that it was more probable than not that the two were colluding, because otherwise there is no doubt that Vincent would have been punished severely. After losing the union election, Vincent was immediately hired into an NFL executive role working under Goodell and rapidly climbed the ladder to become one of the most powerful people in the NFL. Nothing untoward going on there I'm sure.

Seriously, there's no way the letter and punishment and reasoning made by Vincent wasn't vetted by Goodell, if not outright written by him. And there's also no way that Goodell didn't know up front that Brady was going to appeal. I don't know what Goodell's endgame is, maybe he will keep the suspension at 4 games, maybe he will reduce it to 2 to appear as our merciful savior, but anyone who think this prick hadn't planned the whole process out exactly as it's happening from the very beginning is sadly mistaken. And this isn't a conspiracy theory or anything. He's not even making a big show of hiding what's going on.
