I've mentioned this elsewhere in the threads, but to me and of course others, the NFL is coming down hard publicly on issues of gamesmanship to distract the populace from the really hardcore issues that could bring the league down (e.g. CTE, domestic violence, drug abuse, retired players pensions, etc.).

Furthermore, I should mention that one team in particular gets unjustly hammered much much worse than others because of the success they have had and the hatred and jealousy of most of the league and other teams fanbases..

Not that this is something we are unaware of.. ;)

Wow, it seems the tides are slowly turning in the media...Brady's team hasn't even shredded the Wells report in court yet.

It's actually even beyond that - well beyond that.

Having a dominant team means having other fanbases disenfranchised. When Jets (biggest market) fans, Dolphins (once a football haven) fans, and Bills (fanatical) fans knowing year after year after year that they really have very little chance of climbing the mountain is bad for the brand.

To say nothing of the other teams - Raiders fans still seething about the Tuck Rule, Steelers fans reaching back to the 70s with their "we got 6!" pathetic cries - when's the last time you heard a Celtics' fan refer to the Cousy/Russell era to say "nyah, nyah" to a Spurs' fan? The Patriots have broken these fools - it's downright embarrassing.

The NFL fights hard for parity - so much so that their draft alignment is throughout all seven rounds. They have a hard salary cap.

BB ruins their party because, yeah, he's just better than the other coaches.
TB ruins their party because, yeah, he's just better than the other quarterbacks.

The authority of the commissioner’s office has been badly weakened. The players’ union is lobbying hard to have discipline removed from league office hands and placed into those of a neutral arbitrator. This only makes sense. The owners pay for Goodell’s whopping salary, and this creates a basic conflict of interest. The commissioner is eager to preserve his power. But you don’t establish your authority by handing down a phony hanging-judge sentence in a case that doesn’t merit it. All that does is erode “public confidence” even further.

But there is this
Poll shows support for sanctions against Brady, Patriots

I love that a lot of media are coming out in favor of the pats. Hopefully other idiot fanbases will pay attention.

Thank you for posting this article. Objective reporters are now coming forward after having read the full report, and it continues to get worse for Goodell, Vincent and Wells.

I've read the report twice, and the second time, I was looking for anything that suggests that Tom Brady requested that the footballs be deflated below the allowable limits. It's not there.

.....or even AFTER the pregame referee check.

Nowhere.

McNally and Jastremski were more than frank in their texts. Why is there NO MENTION of going below 12.5 or of doing any deflating after the referee check?

These guys were no shrinking violets in those texts.

Goodell is Harrison Bergeroning the NFL:

Kurt Vonnegut said:
THE YEAR WAS 2081, and everybody was finally equal. They weren't only equal before God and the law. They were equal every which way. Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else. All this equality was due to the 211th, 212th, and 213th Amendments to the Constitution, and to the unceasing vigilance of agents of the United States Handicapper General.

Some things about living still weren't quite right, though. April for instance, still drove people crazy by not being springtime. And it was in that clammy month that the H-G men took George and Hazel Bergeron's fourteen-year-old son, Harrison, away.

It was tragic, all right, but George and Hazel couldn't think about it very hard. Hazel had a perfectly average intelligence, which meant she couldn't think about anything except in short bursts. And George, while his intelligence was way above normal, had a little mental handicap radio in his ear. He was required by law to wear it at all times. It was tuned to a government transmitter. Every twenty seconds or so, the transmitter would send out some sharp noise to keep people like George from taking unfair advantage of their brains.

George and Hazel were watching television. There were tears on Hazel's cheeks, but she'd forgotten for the moment what they were about.

On the television screen were ballerinas.

A buzzer sounded in George's head. His thoughts fled in panic, like bandits from a burglar alarm.

"That was a real pretty dance, that dance they just did," said Hazel.

"Huh" said George.

"That dance-it was nice," said Hazel.

"Yup," said George. He tried to think a little about the ballerinas. They weren't really very good-no better than anybody else would have been, anyway. They were burdened with sashweights and bags of birdshot, and their faces were masked, so that no one, seeing a free and graceful gesture or a pretty face, would feel like something the cat drug in. George was toying with the vague notion that maybe dancers shouldn't be handicapped. But he didn't get very far with it before another noise in his ear radio scattered his thoughts.

George winced. So did two out of the eight ballerinas.

It warms the ****les of my heart to see a story like this from a legitimate newspaper like the Washington Post. They can't be accused of having a pro-Boston slant. Their credibility in news reporting is impeccable. And I love hearing Donald Trump saying "Sue the hell out of them, Tom... $250MM".

The support is more than regional now; it really does feel like the tide is turning. And Goddell has to be looking into a dark abyss where he is, more likely than not, unemployed and humiliated. That will be a wonderful sunny day.

This was my exact reaction. I was really happy to see the truth make it someplace outside of local news. I just hope the trend continues.

Great article by a leading news outlet. It really highlights the inconsistencies with the Wells report as well as Goodell's incompetent over-reaction to it compared to far more serious disciplinary issues that have hit the NFL. Goodell simply has no clue how to handle the NFL and should be FIRED from his position as Commissioner ASAP.

Good on you for still clinging onto some optimism, but I don't understand how after witnessing how everything has gone down and how it's obvious that the NFL, with support from the other 31 owners, has it out for the Patriots , that people can still believe that "the tides are turning in our favor, Goodell and the front office are going down in flames!!!"

Do you realize how incredibly f***ed we are? The league, owners, players and media all want to take turns pissing in our mouths.. having a field day just smearing this team and Brady left and right.. and people think the tides are turning in our favor? Are you for real?

Even if the suspension is reduced, and I feel like Brady will have to be out at least 1 game, and even if we get the 1st rounder back... do you have any confidence at all that games they play in the future are going to be fairly officiated?

My guess is that any big game, any nationally televised game that the Pats are in is going to be officiated the same way the 2006 AFCCG was...

This is a very serious and ****ty spot to be in, because it means people want us to go back to being a sub .500 "patsies" team and it's a mindset shared by every owner and everyone in the nfl front office, as well as most of the media, most of the nfl fans and even a lot of the current and former players.

This all sucks.. I don't see how people can still be so optimistic and think that this is all going to magically end in our favor and all of the mindless sheep that have fully bought into this ridiculous story are just going to wake up tomorrow and be like "you know what, on second thought I don't think the Pats cheated after all.. this is just overblown!"

The nfl office hates us, a majority of owners hate us, many players past&present hate us, the vast majority of fans hate us and the media hates us.

Perception is reality and this is our reality that we have to deal with every day now for the next 10 years or so whether we like it or not. .. and that f***ing sucks and is really unfair.. and really just sucks so much of the joy and entertainment out of this sport for a lot of Patriots fans..

its just not right and truly is a shame

Of course. And this is why Goodell exists. He deflects the rage of the consumer from the people who really deserve it, the owners. Goodell is the shield.

But there is this

We are talking about fans.... who by their very nature are going to be biased. That is actually high percentage of disagreers, as is tangentialy means that 27% do not support the ban. Considering there are 31 teams, if you slpit them evenly (100/31 = ~3%).... Even if you take into account the NEP are a big market team with likely 9% (a guess) of the fan market, that means that 18% of fans of other teams, who have every reason to want to see the patriots be hurt........ DON'T AGREE WITH IT.

Call me a homer, but I'm actually impressed that # of haters is that LOW. :D
