at least skip bayless is defending us!!:D
the patriot prophet, everything he says about the pats usually happens ha
skip is an idiot, he thinks TB shouldnt go in the HOF on first ballot

I think the penalties were harsher than most as Goodell knows that they will probably not stand up, so at the end of the day.. he tried to be badazz, but the Arbitrator did it..

So he can look like a tough guy, protecting the shield, but at the end of the day.. he is just another milquetoast wanna be...

When I was a Union Steward this stuff happened all the time.. over charge or over penalize an employee only to see it overturned in arbitration.. the arbitrator did it. Deferring responsibility through legal channels is a classic, but idiotic management technique..
Getting those draft picks reinstated is going to be damn near impossible, in my opinion. If Kraft somehow pulls that off, it'll be a miracle.

That is exactly WHY Goodell took them...after the Pats were COMPLETELY EXONERATED (Wells' own words) by the Wells report. It's Pash who's behind the legal maneuverings here. They anticipated this.

It doesn't make sense that Brady can completely destroy the report in court but can't get the picks back....have to get Goody kicked out.

The "justification" I've heard for stealing the draft picks is (1) no fifth McNally interview and (2) no cell phone surrender by Brady, meaning the Pats were "uncooperative." I still can't believe this rape job by Goodell, it seems so unreal.

It is unreal.

First they came for the Pats, and nobody said anything because they hated the Pats.
Then they came for the Saints, and nobody said anything because they weren't the Saints.
And now they come for the Pats again.

The sad reality is, fans of the NFL are just going to continue to cheer on the NFL's destruction because it gives them these off season victories when their ****ty football teams give them none on the actual field.

Everybody celebrated the Pats getting the smack down with the Crygate penalties, even though video taping was universal. Then the Saints got blasted and everyone cheered it. Admittedly, most Patriot fans, IIRC, sort of celebrated it a bit, too, in a sort of "Now you see what we suffered" kind of way (though their penalty was worse). Now Saint fans are probably celebrating this because misery loves company.

The next time the media and league office find someone in their cross hairs unfairly, I hope to see this fan base show some solidarity with them. Gotta' end the cycle somewhere.

Tunes, you've heard me rant on this mutt for years. He has ALWAYS bothered me from the start. Some men, you see them immediately for what they are. He's the king of transparent goonery. I wouldn't believe this mutt if he told everyone the sun was out at 1 pm and my skin was blistering from the heat. I'd be looking for the bottle of HCl acid in his pocket.

On this, I'm not so sure. Roger probably honestly thinks that the Patriots cheated, and that getting more evidence would prove it.

My feeling is that Wells and Goodell (and yes, I don't believe Wells to be truly independent. He effectively IS the NFL's lawyer) knew the request for electronic communications was bound to be rejected by Brady as unreasonable

... giving them the perfect opportunity to suspend him and penalize the Patriots for "unreasonable lack of cooperation"

I expect Kessler to have a field day with this as I doubt the NFLPA feels the CBA did away with such rights to privacy

I seem to recall that Roger didn't so much as go looking for the Ray Rice elevator video - let alone ask for text messages from Rice

That, as well as several other aspects of this so called independent investigation really seem like a set up

I expect Kessler will ask to see all relevant messages between Wells, Goodell and Kensil

And since they have nothing to hide, I expect they'd willingly turn them over, or else we can assume they are guilty given their "unreasonable lack of cooperation ;)

You're preaching to the choir. He bothered me from the very start as well -- huffing and puffing from day one that "a new sheriff was in town" and recklessly throwing his weight around while still wet behind the ears. He's going on eight years as commissioner and hasn't shown ANY wisdom or maturity like his predecessor.

Very well said and quite pertinent..

It has been said that the owners will not back the Patriots as they are getting what they deserve, however this aberration of justice and overreach might prove threatening to many of them.. as they all know they are one step away from NFL's swift sword of injustice...

Owners are smart as they see one of the "fair haired owners" getting treated this way, what could be in store for them..

Consider all of the teams that have committed minor infraction over the past couple of years.. Minnesota warming footballs, San Diego using tacky substance on towels, Jets tampering(again), NOLA and all the ones I forget.. the next step could be the kiss of death for them.

I feel that the Pats need to step up and talk more about spygate since its being cited as a pattern.

Kraft basically went soft the first time around - and his team has been paying for it ever since. It seems that only the most diehard of fans understand that the Patriots weren't 'spying' - they believed (correctly IMHO) that the league was simply wrong. What they were doing wasn't against the rules - only against the memo put out by the Commish/

So no pattern here - there was no deception before despite the 'spygate' moniker. Pats should have fought the Commish then. Its a similar situation now - where almost no one - even Boston media even consider the idea that maybe the Pats didnt' do anything to the balls..

"You're overturning this suspension or we're going to federal court"
I can see Brady doing it but not Kraft. There is lots of precedent for players suing the NFL. Kraft would have to go hard over rouge like Al Davis to sue the NFL. Keep in mind the teams ARE the NFL. It'd be like a child suing a parent. It happens but when it does it's absolutely ugly. Brady is more like an employee (and in this case a union employee) suing an employer. It happens all the time, and he's got a strong case for defamation of character. That said, I'd love to see both of them sue.

The "justification" I've heard for stealing the draft picks is (1) no fifth McNally interview and (2) no cell phone surrender by Brady, meaning the Pats were "uncooperative." I still can't believe this rape job by Goodell, it seems so unreal.
The more I read, such "rapes" are extremely typical in workplace investigations. Give us everything or we throw the book at you.

I agree with you. When one team is being screwed, 31 others watch and say 'oh well at least it's not me'. The pattern of abuse has to be so overwhelmingly harsh and overwhelmingly pervasive that at least half of the teams are ready to kick Goodell out, and we're getting there, but not quite there yet, IMHO.

this is the simplest summary of how things are going to end up for goodell, wells, and all the other NFL worker bees involved with this
