Peter King polled three NFL team execs and two of the three feel that the punishment was way over the top:

A quick poll of three officials of other clubs in the hours after the ruling found a mixed reaction. One top club official thought the penalty was excessive because there was no definitive proof in the Wells report that Brady either authorized the deflation of footballs or knew precisely that they had been deflated. Another said he was heartened to see the league treat the Patriots with an iron fist, though Kraft has been a close confidant of Goodell. A third said he and others in his organization were surprised by the severity of the punishment. “Way over the top,” he said. “Draconian. I thought the league went too far.” There was a no-joy-in-Mudville tone with these officials. Two of them said virtually the same thing—that this was a sad day for football.

I am sure there are some teams who are doing cartwheels now, but I am surprised that two of the three execs felt this punishment was over the top and excessive. This could backfire on Goodell. Kraft is popular in the league even if the Patriots and specifically Belichick aren't. This could really be the start of the end of the Goodell regime.

That 'ain't nothing compared to when the NFL ends up in court.

Other teams should be worried this could happen to them....except for the Jets, Colts, and Steelers who cheat as they please.

Even the largest Anti-Pats executives are smart enough to look at this and say, "that much over that little evidence? He could do that to us, too."

This might be a silver lining to the news of the night, actually. It's that type of thing that would cause momentum to vote him out.

I'm surprised 2 out of 3 thought it was excessive also because it should have been 3 out of 3. It's a minor infraction in a league that is based of vicious competition. It's hypocritical beyond belief in a league where the cost of playing is often permanent brain damage. What are they on drugs at the commissioners office?

I have always said that Goodell is more incompetent than evil. I think although he might have appeased the jackyls in the media and fans who wanted blood, he may have lost his support by a large segment of the owners in the sake of rehabbing his image and showing he can be tough on the Patriots.

look on the bright side Pats fans...at least the NFL got it right when they fined the Jets for "more probably than not" tampering with Revis months before signing him to a 39 million dollar jackpot. Thank God Roger was alert and got that hundred thousand bucks for the league back.

I'm sure it was someone from the Ravens, or Jets

King is an idiot. He's been stirring the pot, and now he's back at it. He has no moral compass. Peoples lives getting ruined are just plot twists to him. He loves it because he loves drama.

When you talk to Jim Irsay, sober answers are rarely provided

There are teams that hate the Pats and will not think of this objectively and will celebrate any harsh penalty for the Pats.

Second guy was probably Ryan Grigson.

"I can't say for certain but it sure seems that way to me," the owner, who knows both men well, explained.
The owner added: "Some of us (owners) are waiting a little nervously to see what Robert does next."

Heating footballs on the sidelines - clearly ILLEGAL = ZERO PUNISHMENT.

Patriots footballs found underinflated, although explained by ideal gas law = LOSS OF 1st and 4th Round picks, 1 MILLION dollar fine, Brady SUSPENDED for 4 Games!
