Why does Goodell and the League office always bring up "integrity of the game"?

Forget anything they have ever done to the Pats, when has the League office ever held themselves to the same standard of integrity or, more importantly, held themselves accountable when they totally shatter the integrity of the League office.

Goodell and company get caught totally sweeping the whole Ray Rice thing under the rug. Nothing happens to them. Not one fine. Not one suspension. The League gets accused of seeing the Rice tape before the decision, Goodell pays for an "independent" investigator to examine his office which obviously absolves him.

Judge Barbara Jones slammed Goodell on the Ray Rice appeal because Goodell abused his power for repunishing Rice after the video came out for suspending Rice again for lying to Goodell although there was absolutely no evidence that Rice lied (in fact the contrary). She even pointed out 20 cases of domestic violence where police action was involved where Goodell gave the accused a lesser suspension or no suspension at all. Yet, Goodell was never disciplined for that either.

In the Adrian Peterson case, Goodell's hand pick arbitrator got slammed by Judge Doty on appeals because:

“simply disregarded the law of the shop and in doing so failed to meet his duty under the CBA.” Doty also agreed with the NFLPA that Henderson exceeded his authority. “Henderson’s conclusion that the new policy is consistent with the previous policy is contradicted by the Commissioner’s own statements,” Doty wrote. “Here, Henderson strayed beyond the issues submitted by the NFLPA and in doing so exceeded his authority.”

Goodell shred any integrity that the NFL has on a daily basis without any fear of penalty, but holds the Patriots to a standard he does not maintain himself.

And all of these are examples from the last year alone.

Whenever Goodell or his flunkies use the like "integrity of the game", I always throw up in my mouth a little bit. It is such a farce.

Because they have no integrity, and therefore someone else has to for them.

"Integrity of the game" is a vapid platitude that sparks neurons in middle America, causing their chests to swell with pride that America's game apparently has something called 'integrity', and thus is something that serves them rather than some massive corporate entity that they shell out their money too week in and week out. An arbitrary signifier to keep the calf fat, that's it.

Integrity of the game

Owner in a press conference says how they want to sign their rivals still under contract All-Pro CB, a clear cut case of tampering and they only get fined $100k. Yet they are repeat offenders of "integrity of the game"

Pats suspected of letting some air out of balls with no definite proof QB suspended 4 games, 1st round pick, 4th round pick and $1m. Only the 2nd time in about 8 years they "offended the integrity of the game"

F*CKING JOKE

When you have a lawyer saying he is doing something for reason X, it is a certainty that he is doing it for reason -X. Roger is a lawyer.

Also, note that in British slang Roger means to have intercourse with, usually from behind. That is to say that Roger is a sneaky f***ker. Don't be surprised that the truth is exactly the opposite of what he tells you.

The "Integrity of the game" is used by Goodell and the league in order to uphold the pretense of integrity. The league recognizes that the phrase is nothing more than a platitude, but they continue using it because it acts as a shroud that tricks the ill-informed.

Observe how the league handled both Cameragate and Framegate or even Bountygate. In all 3 cases, teams were held accountable of violations that were not uncommon in the NFL. However, in the event that enough people began to realize just how common these practices were, the integrity of the NFL would be called into question. So what does Goodell do? He levies ridiculous punishments, in order to make it appear as if these cases are exceptional instances where the rules have been violated. In addition, by dropping the hammer in this fashion, the league presumes that teams won't try bending the rules in the same way.

Long story short: "The Integrity of the game" is a phrase that is used as a tool in order to detract from the lack of integrity in the NFL.

Yeah, when you keep saying it it sounds like your the magistrate of integrity when you have none.
