Short of trading for richard sherman, I really don't get this move. gaining less then a million in cap space, but losing the last starting CB from your superbowl team. doesn't add up for me, but IBBIT

If designated post June 1 it saves $3m

Saw this coming. Very good player in the slot. Awful on the outside. That alone does not justify his salary.

I'm sure they tried to work something out but wasn't meant to be...

Butler, Fletcher, McClain, Ryan, Roberts

We have to have the smallest payroll at corner in the league?

He has been trending backwards to Darius Butler territory. Against good competition, he and Logan Ryan get consistently torched.
He had his good moments too, for example against Hilton. Hopefully there wont be too many disparaging remarks toward Ryan/Butler next season. Not their fault for being in a difficult situation.

Introducing the Patriots two new CB's...

...Flotsam and Jetsam. LOL

1. Shortly after being cut, spontaneously, a Kyle Arrington fan club leaps forth from the mist.

2. ZOMGGGGG we have no cornerbacks........!!111!11!!

Either a trade or Bill is really loving his front 7
That would be an interesting assessment considering BB hasn't seen them together for even 1 full practice.

So.....

A 10 man 'front 7' with a cover 1 shell?

Perhaps this has occurred because the wisdom of the patsfans.com message board meme "can he rush the passer?" has finally has sunken in at 1 Patriot Place.

Along those lines, please allow me to generate some new rumored next moves: signing Adam Seward + trading for Connor Barwin.

Wow, really bad move if he isn't back on a cheaper contract. He's one of the few reliable guys (in the slot).
I'm sure that they tried and he said no.

He is awful on the outside. If he was even decent he'd still be with the team (maybe)

On opening night, fans in the stadium will be so focused on Goodell sitting in the owner's box they will not notice Big Ben's 49 completions for 569 yds

Antonio Brown could have a truly amazing fantasy day.

This one is truly surprising. Not only was Arrington a decent slot corner, but a key special teamer as well. With BB's loving of two-way players, I wonder why Arrington was let go.
I'll give you three million reasons.

Anybody still doubt that a trade of some kind is coming? There's no way the team can roll into this season with this secondary.

I understand the money thing...but I'm still shocked.

When I first began to realize they might lose Revis, I thought the starting trio would be Dennard/Browner/Arrington...duh.

And yeah, "in Bill we trust" and all that, but I remember one year when they blew up the safety position, shockingly. Didn't work out so well.

Is there still no chance that McCourty moves back to CB? Barring a significant trade I would be amazed that Bill thinks this corner back group is anywhere near satisfactory.

Pats have a log jam of CBs who can play the inside. McClain, Fletcher, etc. That and his $4.6m cap #/~$2.5m salary made Arrington expendable.

What they lack are proven CBs that can play press man on the outside.
