Giardi: Sources near Pats fear 6-8 game suspension

With the lack of clear evidence...anything more than first four games suspension would be excessive.

I was originally going to say a 1 or 2 game suspension but not turning over his phone may really piss the clueless wonder Jetdell off....

Anything more than nothing is excessive.

Complete sham.

6-8 games suspended.. because its 50.1% likely he was generally aware that some inaccurately measured footballs might be down half a pound of psi from what an official remembers setting them at while using gauges with a +.4 psi variance between the two of them.
It appears the standard used by the NFL is .000001% chance of probability (add as many zeros as you think truly reflects the standard)

Since when does Goodells suspensions make sense? I guarantee Goodell is excited as a kid at chistmas morning right now waiting to dictate the punishment.

I don't think hes behaving like that at all. I think he is playing out with NFL GC and PR the scenario of TB12 vs The NFL. I also think he has 1/2 a brain and in his own way loves the NFL and it's history. With that said, it comes down to this:

Does Roger Goodell really want to tarnish forever the reputation and legacy of one of the greatest players ever that has been the league's poster boy over a "probably"?

We joke here but Goodell is clearly an intelligent man. I find it unfathomable and beyond comprehension that he would do that.

Nothing is guaranteed in the Cirque Du NFL, but I find it hard to believe that Vilma got his suspension overturned and yet the Wells report would stand up in Brady's case.

how long would it take??

Bill Simmons said it best when he said that Goodell knew what was in the report for months but didn't rule on it then because he wanted to release it to the public to gauge the reaction.

So more or less he is letting the lynch mob dictate the punishment for the Pats.

I suggest we put this bolded assertion up for a poll. What say you?

How can the Pats lose a high draft pick if they were exonerated? You've said this numerous times and never answered.

Because the Patriots have not been exonerated. They will argue Brady, McNally, and the other guys are part of the Patriots organization. Look at the Falcons. They determined the announcer pumped in crowd noise on his own, but the Falcons lost a draft pick.

Many people are calling for Belichick to get a lengthy suspension because it happened under his watch like how the Falcons' GM was suspended from the rules committee.

BTW, I don't think the Pats should lose a draft pick, but I am pretty sure they will. Most likely a high one.

What does Godell care about Brady or his legacy? Its all about numero uno.

Goodell will have zero issues tarnishing Brady's rep to elevate himself to God staus among the NFL world. The harsher the penalty the better he look's as a commissioner.

What if Goodell didn't suspend or fine Brady and only docked them draft picks?

Any appeal for that?

This scenario worries me. With the report of the punishment announcement possibly being delayed the league may be worried about how bad they could look in a lawsuit.

The already said Kraft and BB are in the clear, so losing draft picks would not be an appropriate punishment, but it the one with the least risk to the league's credibility.
Just as long as they're all second round picks. :D

I would expect the initial penalties to be much higher that they expect to actually get after appeal. So if they really want 4 games 6-8 range seems about right. They know the NFLPA is going to rip this apart.

Goodell said to them, “What then shall I do with Brady who is called GOAT?”

They all said to him, “Let Him be crucified!”

Then the commissioner said, “Why, what evil has He done?”

But they cried out all the more, saying, “Let Him be crucified!”

When Goodell saw that he could not prevail at all, but rather that a tumult was rising, he took water and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, “I am innocent of the blood of this just Person. You see to it.

Ugh...Clearly folks will disagree with me. The guy is the Commissioner of the NFL. You don't get to that level by being dumb.

The problem is that Goody is not forward thinking nor does he regularly exercise common sense.

That is what he did with CameraPlacementGate, and the sports media led the charge.

Well we know what Goodell's path of least resistance is:

If Patriots disciplined, Kraft said team will accept it + NFL Constitution says it's "unappealable." But if Brady sanctioned, he can appeal.

Personally, I prefer they suspend Brady the 4 games instead of losing draft picks.

Look at the schedule. The first 3 games are eminently winnable with Garropolo and the 4th comes after a bye week. Tom would be ready to embarrass the Colts in game 5.

Keep the draft picks and let's see what Jimmy G can do in a limited corner of the season. 3-1 would be fine.

Game 1; Steelers at home

Game 2: Bills on road, but with a 3 day rest advantage

Game 3; Jaguars at home

Bye

Game 4: Cowboys on the road (Cowboys play week before on Sunday night on road)

goodell is dumb. his father was a US Senator and managed to finagle his way into the jets and the NFL front office. he didn't exactly go to harvard.

Nice post, but i don't think goodell is as decent as pontious pilot.

This is about more than Weeks 1-4 next season.

Yeah really! Cleveland will offer the Pats 2 firsts easily if Jimmy G gets to play four games and goes 3-1.

Yeah, I don't think the Browns have had a QB lead them to a 3-1 record in the history of their "franchise".

If I'm Belichick, I up the ante to 3 first rounders. Lol.
