I'm going to leave free agency as it is - I don't have any major complaints about what happened. my only wish was that they were able to sign CJ Spiller and add a creative RB threat.
Backdraft Mock
Trade: #32 and # 96 to Baltimore Ravens for #26
#26 Byron Jones, CB, UConn
Boring I know, but I think the Cowboys aced the first round with their pick.
Trade: The Seahawks traded up for the Redskins' #69 pick to draft Tyler Lockett. They gave up #95, 112, 167, 181 to do so. I'm going to steal that Seahawks trade.
#95 (From SEA) Trey Flowers, DE, Arkansas
I'm perfectly comfortable with this pick now.
#97 (Comp) TJ Clemmings, OL, Pittsburgh
A legitimate potential starter at LG and future proofing for OT
#101 (From TB) Shaq Mason, OL, Georgia Tech
My favourite pick of our draft.
#112 (From SEA) DeAndre Smelter, WR, Georgia Tech
After Byron Jones, my second biggest regret from the draft. I think 31 teams will end up regretting they didn't get in on Smelter.
#131 Marcus Hardison or Grady Jarrett, DT
It's hard for me to separate the two. In this draft, I've missed out on Malcom Brown, but then I rated these two at about the same level I did Brown anyway so...VALUE.
#167 (from SEA) Joe Cardona, LS, Navy
That's fine BB. You can keep your Navy guy.
#178 Matthew Wells, LB/S, Mississippi State
Increasingly intrigued by this pick. I'm quite happy to keep it.
#181 (From SEA) AJ Derby, TE, Arkansas
I'm quite happy to be on board with a "mini-Gronk" at this stage in the draft.
#219 Darryl Roberts, CB, Marshall
As you can see, I'm pretty comfortable with our day three picks. As a 7th rounder, Marshall has the upside to compete in camp for a spot on the roster but isn't a terrible waste of a pick if it doesn't work out.
#253 Cassius Sendish, S, Kansas
He's pretty much everything Jordan Richards is. I don't see a big fall off in potential production between the two. I much prefer the value here.
Hindsight mocking - now that's therapy for a draftnik.
As an FYI, I watched a replay of the Texas/Arkansas bowl game. Malcolm Brown played well. When he was out, they got mauled. Seemed like they knew he was gone and wanted to get some yutes a little experience. They played him a little at end in a 3-4, he wasn't as effective there. Looks like a 4-3 dt who is excellent vs the run with enough athleticism to get some pressure.
Trey Flowers and Arkansas defense dominated UT. He was really good at setting the edge. He didn't get a lot of pressure on pass-rushing situations. They usually blitzed off the edge and came in un-touched. Texas may have been overly concerned with him. I think he can eventually be Ninko's replacement. Maybe, slide inside in a NASCAR package with Easley. Bring Grissom and Chandler Jones off the edges in obvious pass-rushing situations and late in games/halfs.
