Description

Deflate Calc is an application that will help you estimate the deflation of a football based upon temperature differences. It is as simple as entering the temperature at the initial measurement, PSI at first temperature, and temperature at second measurement. The app will then estimate the PSI at the second temperature.

Many thanks for the folks who helped.

Good stuff. You should forward this onto Curran, Reiss, PFT, etc. - anybody who is social media savvy should do likewise.

I don't really have contacts but if anyone does PM me

Congrats to your boy.
Which equations did you use?

Ideal gas. % change in temp based on Kelvin then showing same projected % change in PSI including factoring in atmospheric pressure which is what Bill Nye and Neil de Grasse forgot to do.

Honestly, the Patriots should have a pre-game ceremony for the fans who kept the faith through this mess and bring out a few of them like you and Palm Beach Pat's fan. Maybe have one of the elementary school children conduct their science experiment on the field while they're at it.

Actually, I'm going to pat myself on the back for what I see as a genius idea to put the proper narrative out there if the Well's report doesn't make it clear.

Using the Deflate Calc and the NFL figures of 72 degrees and 48 degrees. 12.5 PSI drops to 11.27 PSI. This does not factor in a cold rain or a 44 degree dew point that night. Using Prioleau's measurements on page 163, The Patriots balls are all right around there. This report is a total mess and focusing on stupid texts rather than science which they also got wrong. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/deflate-calc/id987622012?ls=1&mt=8

Atmospheric conditions are a moot point. This argument holds zero value to the issue.

All the balls were subject to the same atmospheric conditions. All the balls (both team's) were officially OK'd by the officials.

Then the Pats balls went missing. Turns out they were spirited to a field side bathroom on the way to the field which by NFL Rules is against protocol........ even if Pats equipment guy didn't stop for the restroom. VIOLATION

The next time the balls were tested, Only the Pats balls were significantly deflated. The Colts balls weren't significantly deflated........ even though they experienced the same atmospheric conditions.

In point of fact, the only difference the balls experienced was the Pats set were illegally brought to the field by Pats Equipment guy who stopped off to 'take a leak' - or leak some air

Atmospheric data and tests and calculators and apps have no bearing on whether or not the Pats have cheated.

cute app tho :)

Nice job!! I bought it

I did as well. Nice fun app. One suggestion - a reset button to erase all the fields?
Hopefully, you can update it to include more environmental variables.

Um. No. Nice try, though. Air temperature and wetness accounted for every bit of the pressure reduction in the Patriots balls, assuming they were inflated at room temperature. The Colts balls were the ones that potentially defied nature, unless they were inflated outdoors, or were measured after they warmed up. They only measured four of the Colts balls though so the sample might have been skewed. Who knows what measuring the full sets might have turned up. Maybe they only measured the dry ones.

The state of science illiteracy in this country is really, really sad if people like you are any indication.
