The Published Wells Report.

This story is nuts. So overblown.

If Brady gets hit with anything more than the $25K football tampering fine, you bet the NFLPA will squash it. No way they let someone as high-profile as Brady take a penalty with out any actual evidence of wrong doing. It doesn't matter what Goodell tries to do, the NLFPA will have the last word.

Didnt the official state that the Patriot footballs "started" at around 12.5 and the Colts around 13?

Well, take a look at the Colts chart of PSIs at half-time and take away that .5 starting difference between their starting PSI and the Patriots.

Looks awfully similar to the Patriots numbers.

Also consider, they were testing Patriots balls FIRST. So, they bring all the balls inside, and since they only had time to test 4 Colt's balls, because the 3rd quarter was starting, then those balls were measured last. It is entirely plausible those balls were warming up in the room for the entire time, while the Pat's balls were measured immediately after being brought inside.

I read the report..What we have here is an issue of understanding context. There were conversations throughout the year (see original post) that Brady had with the other guys that the footballs were sometimes overinflated and he wanted them deflated. In one game the refs allegedly inflated the balls to almost 16psi. The conversations between Brady and co about deflating the balls indicated nothing about deflating them below the legal level. He just didn't want them overinflated. The Wells report missed the context of this entirely.

This is exactly how I am reading this. Yes at first glance it does look like Tom knows something, but the more you read this stuff all you can decipher is that Tom is saying the balls are overinflated to his liking, but not by any specific measurements.

The punishment imposed down for tampering with footballs is a fine, $25,000 I believe.

I don't see how Brady can be suspended games for something there's absolutely no proof of, only "probability".

Just like the Revis tampering was the most obvious case in the history of the NFL, right?

The bottom line (as @Rob0729 points out) is that Goodell rules according to the public, and in this case, the public obviously wants to see a suspension. In my opinion it's not a matter of "if" there's a suspension, but how long it will be.

The public perception and Wells report say that 3 people were involved: Brady, the ball boy, and the equip. mngr. Only one of them actually plays the game, and also happens to be one of the biggest stars, who also has some doubt as to whether or not he's a "repeat offender."You do the math here.

Okay, now I'm confused...10/17/2014 was a Friday, the day after the Jets game. Jastremski "just" checked them and they were at 16 the next day?

And he said they were supposed to be 13 - how does that implicate the Patriots bringing them under 12.5, exactly?
Why is this not being bought out by the media? Can curran, reiss or how answer this? They clearly know the legal rules.

If Suh can get out of his suspension then Brady should have zero problem getting out of his if the NFL does suspend.

If this were Tenn no one would care

Then you're done with him. He's on record this morning as saying NE will accept whatever happens.
Well, if Bob's gonna roll over like the beaten curr he seems to be then why the hell should I care about his team. This is a total stitch-up and if he's going to let his brand be dragged through the mud yet again for the sake of collegiality with a bunch of moron billionaires, well, then I've got better things to do with my Sunday afternoons - AND with my money.

Exactly what I was alluding to before. This gives credence to the context of the texts being about making sure the balls were at the level Brady wanted before the game (before giving to the refs), and the deflator label because Brady want's the ball 12.5PSI or under so he's likely more often releasing pressure, not pumping them up. Nothing in those texts points to releasing pressure against the rules after the refs check the balls.

But I digress, even if they are guilty, it's a $25K fine. Slap on more for lying if you want, but there is NO way Goodell can slip a suspension past the NFLPA, even if Brady later admitted to it.

I'm at work and cannot read the whole report or this whole thread -- but this is my question. All of the inquiries and complaints attributed to Brady (that I can see) seem to be in the context of the over-inflated Jets balls. That is, one can reasonably construe them as complaints, requests, and even "bribes" to be vigilant on the job, making sure that the balls are not over-inflated or even at the high end of the permissible range. Everything seems to be of the "do what you can" variety, without explicit mention (from Brady) of making sure to under-inflate.

Am I missing a smoking gun? Even if he was giving them autographs and "kicks," it could have just been for an above-and-beyond effort to make sure the refs don't over-inflate.

It's Christmas time for the haters. Just got to avoid the rest of the internet as much as possible.

How come no one on these sports networks are talking about how 3 out of the 4 Colts balls were ALSO under inflated.

Or how about that only 4 Colts balls were even measured to begin with.....

Those texts suck. Those guys are idiots.

Still need clarification of the standard of guilt here, "more probable than not".. where does that lie on the continuum of....suspicion.... to beyond a reasonable doubt????
