That's exactly my line of thinking. Throughout the entirety of the conversations all you see is McNally telling Jastremski to tell Tom this or that or do this or that, there's never any reference to McNally actually having any kind of direct communication with Tom. Further, when things broke, Tom called Jastremski multiple times. You can obviously prove Tom has a fair amount of communication with Jastremski (although is no communication for 6 months really communication at all?), there's really nothing here supporting the idea that Tom lied when he said he didn't know McNally. In fact, there's quite a bit supporting that Tom told the truth. However, Wells somehow draws the opposite conclusion.

A recent court case in Missouri invalidated Goodell as the ultimate arbiter in punishment cases. That one was in reference to a league employee but it could be a good way to shift to a NEUTRAL arbiter if and when any discipline is handed out..

Guys, guys, guys . . . I agree that Wells' conclusions are dubious but, at the end of the day, they are just opinions.

All he's saying is that he "believes" it's likely a Patriots employees deliberately tampered with the balls and that he "believes" that it's likely Brady knew bout it. A belief based on insufficient information-yes; is Wells being disingenuous-probably; is it defamation-no.

Defamation is affirmatively stating a something as true when you KNOW it is not.

Example- Tom stole $100 from me. If not true and you know it, that's defamation.

I think Tom stole $100 from me. Qualified statement constituting a belief (perhaps mistaken) that's not defamation.

See the difference?
