The Published Wells Report.

It won't matter the context those two nimrods were texting about.

It will be used to paint Brady negatively.
I think the biggest problem is Brady denying that he knew who McNally was (and yes, I'm aware of all the reasons that might be so).

More Texts - Pre Chicago Bears. "Needle" reference will be heavily referred to as evidence seen by Wells that this was habitual:

BREAKING NEWS: The New England Patriots are being investigated for running a homebake lab.

This text (by Jastremski, IIRC) does not look good:

"The only thing deflating sun..is his passing rating"

That implies that normally other things are deflating and (in the context of the preceding messages) that McNally and Jastremski are going to punish (or are joking about punishing) Brady by not deflating those other things like they usually do.

If Brady is punished at all, it will be a crock of ****. There isn't any evidence that he did anything wrong. Just Wells taking a guess that he and the organization acted with malice. If he's suspended the entire season, I won't be following the NFL at all in 2015.
But goodell has the tendency to do this so I expect a suspension unfortunately. He cant fine brady with the amount of heat he is getting these days. Its about his own image sadly.

I can see it now. And better yet, how about we take a page out of several other teams that have bent the rules to worse degrees than we have?

Step 1: Tamper with Muhammad Wilkerson, Jets style.

Step 2: Circumvent the cap, Broncos style.

Step 3: Pump in fake crowd noise to hell and back. Falcons style.

Step 4: Enact rule changes that favor our squad, Colts style.

Obviously PED's and headhunting aren't out of the question because hey, it's not "all that bad" when the other 31 teams do it
You don't get it. Just because all those other teams got away with stuff doesn't mean the Pats would. They'd hammer them for each and everyone, each time harder than the last.

The report states that is less clear how involve or knowledgeable Brady was to the process. All they say is he,"probably" knew.

It was carefully worded. By publicly accusing Brady of lying based on conjecture which was in turn based on circumstantial evidence is a rabbit hole the NFL was very careful not to fall in.

Putting in "probably" didn't let TB off the hook publicly but IMO let him off the hook from facing league discipline.

The word "probably" is used only to save the league from a defamation lawsuit (I didn't say you cheated......)

You know what I would LOVE for the punishment to be?

The patriots have to play the entire season using the same exact balls as their opponents. OMG how delicious would it be for brady to break the TD record, go undefeated, and generally murder the entire league, using the other teams balls.

@TimCowlishaw: NFL season kicks off on a Thursday night in 4 months. Can't wait to see Jimmy Garoppolo leading the Patriots against the Steelers.

ESPN is in heaven
Be kind of funny if that happened, and JG tore Pitt a new *******.

No as the NFL does not need beyond reasonable doubt.

You are right. I would argue that to suspend one of the faces of the NFL, you need strong reasonable doubt to suspend a player. The report does not contain that.

This report is a total mess and they got the science wrong

No question.

Example of the problem with looking at text messages without context:

Person A: Make sure dinner is on the table when I get home tonight.
Person B: GFY.
Person A: If it's not on the table when I walk through the door, I'll kick your ass.
Person B: You're going to be home at X o'clock, right? Dinner will be ready then.

We all know, or at least every single literate one of us, that the above exchange could be deadly serious, and could be two people screwing around.

Not just that, but you get no context either. Example:

Student A: I just got the answers for test and I'm reviewing it now. I'm gonna nail this final!
Student B: Can I get a copy?
etc etc etc

If you are looking for cheating, this is going to be your smoking gun... except of course if they are talking about the answer key the professor posted for the last exam and honest studying... Context is everything and text messages have almost no context, let alone tone.

The Falcons cheated, and admitted to cheating. They were docked a 5th round pick.

The Patriots as an organization did not know of any wrongdoing, but their ballboy "more likely than not" cheated and the QB may have been "generally aware."

If there's any consistency, the punishment would be a 7th or just a fine. But we know Goodell is the model of inconsistency.

Wells report would have the balls drop to 11.32 PSI from 12.5 PSI over the first half? If that's true, then...

According to Priloeau's measurements, which came first (I'm assuming) only 3 of the 11 Patriots balls measured fell below that. AND, one of those balls was measured 2 times on the field.

You don't get it. Just because all those other teams got away with stuff doesn't mean the Pats would. They'd hammer them for each and everyone, each time harder than the last.

Oh, you're absolutely correct. The previous post was in jest, and stated out of frustration over how stupid this whole thing is, but obviously the way to play it would be to avoid scrutiny (however possible that would be given Herr Godell's reign) The Pats are held to a different standard than the other 31 teams unfortunately, and we are all privy to this.

But goodell has the tendency to do this so I expect a suspension unfortunately. He cant fine brady with the amount of heat he is getting these days. Its about his own image sadly.

I agree that Goodell is a big time assclown, but I can't see him suspending Brady. Brady is one of the premier players in the league and is one of the faces of it. Him getting suspended may be more detrimental to the game than anything.

Just read Krafts statement. Sounds pissed. The he capitulates. Screw him. If Brady is suspended only for a pre season game he should go to Bill and say do it. By that I mean release all of the stuff he knows other teams are doing or have done.

He won't of course. And that's the sad part. He is leaving it up to us fans to swing in the wind. All I can hope is the scientific community lets out a collective Buuuuuuuuullllls**t.

You left out, heat up frozen balls on the side line during the game, on video using side line heaters, Vikings and panthers style

The release of that report today also made Rand Gatlin land on my ****list.

Rand Getlin @Rand_Getlin · 1h1 hour ago
Kudos to Ted Wells and his staff on conducting such a thorough investigation. And kudos to the NFL for aggressively seeking out the truth.

Interested to see how Brady is punished. If the sanctions are too light, others will believe the reward of cheating far outweighs the risk.

Rand Getlin @Rand_Getlin · 15m15 minutes ago
Conversely, if the NFL imposes significant sanctions on Brady, et al, it is 'more probable than not' that it will deter similar conduct.
Who TF is Rand Getlin?

Was there ANY look at the league?

Very superficially. The Wells report shows that Dean Blandino lied and he knew about Grigson's allegation a day before the game, but the Wells report glosses over a lot of what happened before game and commended Walt Anderson.

Or, it could be a simple, easy, and obvious reference to the fact that Brady was struggling at the start of the season.
