Sign the Beast LXIX: La'el Collins - do the Pats have a shot if he is cleared?

I agree with the opinion that he will go to a team where he has a legitimate chance to start. He won't get that with the Pats as long as Vollmer and Solder are on the roster.

He can play guard as well. RG spot is up for grabs

I can imagine a scenario in which he comes in and plays right or left guard for a year, while the team develops Shaq Mason. Then next year, they could potentially move on from either Solder or Vollmer, put Collins at that tackle position, and then plug Mason into the role Collins was filling.

My bad, I actually meant LG. I forgot Tre Jackson was a RG and not left.
Thats cool but both G positions are up grabs.

Collins will not be "cleared" until the real perp is found and arrested. That could be years. If you asked a person from another continent who could care less about the NFL and showed him the 32 teams, their recent history dealing with iffy players, I think the Pats would rank 32nd on the his list of "Most Likely To Obtain". I mean, yeah, there's better odds than hitting the Power Ball but I'm not going to lose sleep over not signing this guy.

None of the statements from the police or his lawyer today after his police interview would make me feel better about the chances of him putting this behind him any time soon...

Collins would be moved to guard and would play tackle in the event of injury.

The Pats always draft usually 28 or lower and with a chance to add a top 15 talent I would try and get him signed. Not many times you get a chance a top talent when your the Pats. LOG would work for me.

To maximize coin:
1) Fire agent and keep 100%
2) Tax Free state
3) Unscrupulous owner willing to funnel cash in creative ways (reduce a team sponsors fees once the sponsor hires their new highly paid spokesman)
4) Play tackle
5) Be a starter
6) Play in SB

I feel NE can only tick box #6....but then again Brady is playing for 60% on the dollar so box #3 may deserve some dialogue...nudge nudge, say no more

The cops have already stated that he wasn't a suspect. If he is fully exonerated here, then I'd be very happy with the Patriots taking a chance on him. He's certainly got the size and talent the team likes on the O-line.
The cops said he isn't a suspect -at this time-.

They have not cleared him. He is still a suspect until he is cleared. The police are being cautious on their words because of his lost revenue. Not saying he is a suspect but far from being cleared.

Kraft will stay so far away from this guy considering the Hernandez trial just ended without much of a blemish on the team. He is not going to draw attention back to Hernandez.

There wasn't much of a blemish because the media was too busy worrying about the PSI in the teams' balls. They don't have the attention span to handle potential loss of pressure in footballs on a cold day and a murder trial.

Patriots could interest Collins is that he could earn $165K in postseason pay if Pats win Super Bowl 50 after having a bye, $190K w/no bye.

As you can see at http://sports.cbsimg.net/images/blogs/2013-nfl-performance-based-payouts.pdf… UDFAs who played a lot received the highest payouts.

As an UDFA Collins would be one of lowest paid players on team while also playing in a good number of snaps. That equates to high PBP dollars

Patriots have recent history of guaranteeing a rookie's contract. Armond Armstead had 2013 405K salary fully gtd +225K of 2014 salary gtd
