Let me tell you about Shaq Mason...

Mason's run blocking should mean a couple more goal line and short yardage plays added to the Pats playbook.
Pats were average on short yardage last year. He should help.

This is one of the most positive Draft Day +1 I can remember.. maybe BB finally figured what he is expected to do.. ;)

Guard was my biggest concern going into this draft and I love the way they addressed it. I now have confidence in the depth and quality they have inside, and they are going to need it as the AFCE now has the best Division of D Lines in the NFL. The Patriots OL is going to be battle tested like never before by the end of this season, however unlike the other three teams the Patriots have the QB who can handle intense pressure from opposing defenses, and strengthening the middle is going to give them the time they need to get it done.

I'm really happy with this draft, and hopeful Belichick can address any remaining weaknesses before the season starts.

I think Caserio has really helped with their draft analysis. Just a guess but he seems to have made a difference.

I agree with this at the very least.

We have one starting guard on the roster before day 3 and a pair of god awful backups.

At best we drafted a starter and potentially a rotational guy who pushes Wendell for his job.

Couldn't be happier with those 2 picks.

I like this draft selection a lot better than Tre' Jackson. I am not fond of fat, slow, non-athletic offensive lineman.

He needs to lose some weight.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick called No. 131 overall pick Shaq Mason "probably the best run blocker in the entire draft."

It's obviously high praise for a middle-round pick, but Mason demonstrated true mauling ability at Georgia Tech. He also showed plus athleticism at the Yellow Jackets' Pro Day. Capable of playing both guard and center, Mason has long-range starting upside and could even push for snaps in year one.

So is he really that bad at pass blocking?

On pass plays...just launch Shaq diagonally at his teammate's assignment and get the domino effect working. He can take out 3 in 0.2 seconds.

The Brandon Browner of the offensive line. :p

Was never asked to do it at Ga Tech. It was a read-option running offense.

Belichick said that you could see him improve his pass blocking technique each day at the Senior Bowl -- the first time he had been coached on pro-style pass blocking. Belichick's takeaway from that seemed to be that he thought the guy was coachable and a quick-learner. That's what he really cares about because the Pats will teach all their players very, very specific ways they want things like pass blocking done.

How bout this unit L-R. 7 blockers. Gronk-Solder-Fleming-Stork-Jackson-Cannon-Vollmer.
You put Develin and Shaq on the wings. Bring Develin in motion L-R towards Shaq's side and hand the ball to Blount.
