This year's draft vocabulary

I love buzz-words and -phrases. Just as the business world oohs and ahs over "synergy" or "value-added" or "remarketing" in a given year, the media scouting world seems intent on giving us waves of new vocabulary.

This year I heard a lot about "quick-twitch" players, players who were "twitchy," etc. I also heard WAY too much about "thumpers."

So let me start the list... I am sure you guys have your own. I'd like to compile the list of words and phrases used way too often this draft. I know mine might not technically be new to the 2015 draft - I mean, nothing is ever "new" - but these are the ones that seemed like they've suddenly become required terms in 2015 reports:
- Twitchy
- Quick-twitch
- Quick-twitch athlete
- Thumper(s); to thump (as in, "likes to thump.")
- Value pick; Value approach (old for Pats fans, seemed everywhere this draft)
- Long, length (meaning height and wingspan, combined) - "He's not as long as they like their defensive tackles..."
- "Not as long as his height would suggest"
- Heavy hands (this is bad)
- Violent hands (this is good)
- Runs violently
- Plays with bad intentions
- Can take the top off the defense = the new "stretching the field"
- LEO = Linebacker/End tweener
- Convert speed to power

I'll add to the list as you guys come up with additions....

Yeah but "Wow" isn't exactly a buzzword... still, come to think of it, most of the picking was pretty conventional. After a pretty conventional draft that many "wows" almost qualifies.

I'm curious why teams no longer desire or are able to make draft trades using future year draft picks. (A couple of lopsided round 1 trades included a future pick). The tried and true "I'll give you my high 3rd this year for your 2nd next year" play is now a non starter now. Hell ....even swapping same round picks in different years seemed to be taboo.
What happened?
Teams smartened up? Teams finally know how to manage the cap? Teams are ****ies?

No clue. Maybe they're sick of us winning everything? LOL... or maybe it's got something to do with the new having-to-spend-90-of-cap-in-cash clause somehow? I can't imagine how though.

He's not as long as his height would suggest, nor as tall as his length.

Not sure what word is appropo, however the lack of Patsfans "on the ledge folks" has diminished on draft day +1.... "true believers", "6'3" 260 lb. is just what we needed", "Malcom or Malcolm", "Tre or Trey".. perhaps an orthographic study is in order.

I try really hard not to listen to the TV when the draft is occurring.. bunch of self aggrandizing media whores, each of whom believes they are more intelligent on this guessing game than the other.

Last year's new word (or maybe 2 or 3 years ago,) everybody was "sudden." These were people who were sudden not their movements, as in, "he's fast, he's quick, he's sudden."

Few years before that "he's more quick than fast."

How long have they called linebacker/end tweeners "LEOs"?
And how new or old is the concept of a guy "taking the top off a defense"?

Twitchy and quick-twitch may be dangerous qualities to look for in an athlete, as they may indicate a serious medical condition such as Tourette Syndrome, muscular dystrophy, or tendency to have seizures.

Yeah I guess twitchy was supposed to be the new sudden but you're right, it sounds like either a disease or a meth habit. I think of Tweek from South Park or Jessie from Breaking Bad.

Never heard LEO, but i guess taking the top off is the new stretching the field.

In addition to "violent hands" there were several "runs violently", a term that has picked up steam the last couple of drafts.

"Plays with bad intentions" is another phrase that is now used more often, which is odd considering the backlash at Ray Rice, Greg Hardy, Adrian Peterson and Ray McDonald.

"Speed to Power" is one more catchphrase that is gaining momentum.

Yeah, pretty much. Heard it used a few times with running backs in particular, but I also recall a talking head using the phrase in regards to a pass rusher.

Yep I remember that... okay onto the list it goes... next year I'm compiling the list as we go...

"Converting speed to power" is an excellent descriptor for something pretty important. It's how Jamie Collins wins most of the time. If you are prepared to take that off your list, I'll give you "bubble butt" in exchange.
