Roger Goodell has no plans to apologize to Patriots if they’re cleared in Deflategate probe

With his latest comments, has the Omissioner inadvertently lit the fuse for a whole lot of post-Deflategate discussions?

If the Pats get exonerated soon there won't be much to talk about except this during the lull between the draft and training camp.

I'd welcome that, I think it would work to the Pats advantage.

Kraft drew the line on the same and he should follow through. No apology no more support for Goodell. Once the report is in Kraft should speak out publicly against Goodell and make it clear he intends to make sure he won't be commissioner much longer.
All that is left is whether or what the punishment will be for the Pats. I doubt Kraft despite his protestations is willing or able to influence the POS. I wouldn't be surprised if the real powers behind Goodell, Mara and Rooney have told the Kraft what will happen. In actuality, this battle was lost in 2007, when Kraft chose to support the dictator rather than BB. I expect we will soon find out who the schmuck really was.

He's so stupid he doesn't even realize what he is supposed to be apologizing for.

Bingo.

1) For the fact that there was an investigation to begin with, when there never should have been any investigation.

2) For the deliberate leaking from his office designed to make the Patriots appear guilty and obfuscate the truth.

3) For destroying the two n weeks leading up to the Super Bowl, which should be focused upon celebrating the two teams who are playing.

Bottom line, F.CK Goodell, it's time for him to go!

Why would he try to appease one fan base and frustrate 31 ?

As much as I agree with everything being said in this thread (inept, arrogant, clueless...) it is becoming more and more clear that what Curran and Reiss were saying about the anti-Patriot sentiments festering in the NFL is in fact true. Makes me a little sad that people are so petty and jealous that they'd start believing anything that makes NE look bad - even when it's way off base.

As time passed, I was feeling better about possible outcomes for this "investigation". But the Revis 100k, this interview with RG suggesting they are going way back into the past, followed by this "answer" suggesting "integrity"... Ugh.

I think nature screwed the ball pressure and human nature will screw the Patriots.

Can he possibly get any more arrogant and detached from reality? Protect WHAT shield, Roger? All you've managed to do since you were given your "job" is DESTROY the shield. Moron.

Why should he bother? It's not going to save his job anyways.

He won't be fired immediately but the writing is on the wall. As we've noted - and as the owners surely note - although he claimed that protecting the "integrity of the shield" was job #1 no one has done more to undermine it than Goodell.

To those who assert the NFL has increased it's profit margin under Goodell, it seems to me even a blind chimp would have been able to achieve that, especially with the new CBA and media deals

It's about time in this thread for Our Roger Goodelle Rump swab to come in and explain to us unwashed how brilliant he is for making the $40 million a year Yet they are unable to cite a single accomplishment that he himself has made as Commissioner that has enabled the huge revenue growth. Thankfully Kraft saved us from a lockout and negotiated the TV deal $$$

I now despise him completely. Saw him on CBS last week in a Charlie Rose interview, "Was it just one game?"

Ask yourself. "Why should Goodell apologize when his directed policy failed". The answer is he wouldn't. Don't be surprised. He sees his job as getting the Patriots back to the pack, or back in line. He will do everything in his power to make that happen, and the weasels who are Bob Krafts' partners will go in line gladly, because it's in their own selfish best interests.

So no, don't expect Goodell to make any apologies for his duplicitous behavior and slandering of the Patriots franchise. Rather expect the attacks to continue and increase until BB is retired or the Pats start to consistently lose for a time.

BTW- can anyone think of a SINGLE benefit Roger Goodell's leadership has brought to the NFL. The 2 major events of his 8 year reign has been the new TV contract and the new CBA, and BOTH of those were on the verge of failure before Bob Kraft stepped in and saved the day. Everything else negative from "camperplacegete" to bountygate, to Ray Rice, can be laid right at the bumbling feet of Goodell. He is the perfect example of the "Peter Principle", and what's wrong with America. More and more people struggle to survive, while Wall Street walks free after stealing Trillions, and Roger Goodell can make $44MM EVERY year.

Interesting watch. Somehow doesn't lead me to believe we'll have a strong in-depth discussion of what constitutes the norm in officiating, or the "norm" in terms of ball prep among 32 teams (and what part the officials play in it - in reality - and what part they're supposed to play in it, by the rules.)

What is satisfying is that no matter how much he tries to accelerate us toward the mean, we won the ****ing Super Bowl. Despite all the distractions the league caused with their leaks and ********. We still won it. There is absolutely no better FU to that pale-faced soulless bureaucrat than that.

Quite frankly that could the same reason TB wasn't at the White House. Instead of talking about what you said, perseverance and mental strength he cracked an I'll advised deflatgate joke. Maybe Kraft and BB said we can take it. Don't worry about it. If it bothered him so much the first week it came to light, I bet it's something he he didnt want to hear at the White House.

Gronk said as much if you read between the lines and I bet Brady was on his normal FU NFL offseason training plan while BB and Kraft took the heat.

Even though the Pats should be exonerated, they won't be because Goodell can't let it happen. They have to find something, even of the most minor detail to justify the entire Wells investigation. Even if Kensil was in on the sting with Indy or Baltimore or both, it won't matter because they will find that the Pats violated a rule (letting a ballboy take a leak while in possession of footballs) and give them a nominal fine $25K. Goodell can then claim the matter is over and he doesn't have to apologize to the Patriots or Mr. Kraft....
After the charade of an investigation into tampergate and the wrist slap penalty for a text book case of tampering much more egregious than other cases punished more severely, does anybody realistically think that the Pats will come off scot-free in this??? Maybe I'm just too old and cynical and lost my naivete a long time ago to expect fairness or justice from Park Ave.

I'm hoping somebody in Foxboro takes a cue from Henry Steele/Robby Benson and tells him where to put it......

great great clip and yet, ironically, it's not "over the top" enough to completely encapsulate the Goodell bot.

I disagree, I think the retroactive investigation will demonstrate just the opposite, and had they focused on the one game then the haters would have said that just because they got away with it for one game doesn't mean they weren't doing it all along. By going back and reviewing all games for years they will find that the Patriots never engaged in anything illegal the entire time and that even an exhaustive investigation couldn't find any evidence of wrongdoing. I understand the cynicism towers the league office and agree with it, however I think the Patriots wanted the Wells investigation because they didn't trust the league office and they will have complete access to Wells findings so that the league office won't be able to reinterpret them.

Maybe, Ivan. You have more faith than I - but I sure hope you are right.

I just want five minutes alone with this garbage bag full of crapdell in a small locked room...you can use your imaginations....
