Goodell: ‘Understanding’ is Wells has 'finished interview portion'’ of Deflategate report

Vector's right. We've been over this.

Let me just add this. In a country where 40 percent of the public believes that dinosaurs coexisted with cavemen, do you really think that scientific facts make any difference with Goodell, most of the owners and the public in general.

So, explain to me your apparently unmovable stance that seems to decry ignorance (e.g., dinosaur & man's coexistence) while simultaneously surrendering to ignorance.

C'mon, flasox. It is the JOB of thoughtful people everywhere to attempt to spread knowledge & understanding.

If you can't do that, the very least you can contribute is to point fingers & laugh at morons.
That's not too much to ask, is it?

As much as you may dislike them, neither Goodell now Wells got to where they are today by being morons. And it would be moronic IN THE EXTREME of Goodell to NOT follow the developments in this case very carefully. Even tho he says he isn't. (Sometimes they actually fib, when they don't want to answer specific questions.) The outcome plays a large part in whether or not he'll have a job next year. Or the year after that.

BOTH Goddell & Wells certainly know by now what really happened.

If they issue a report that says "deflation to those levels is NOT explained by the temperature difference", and then every single ball that is exposed to those temperatures acts exactly the same as the Pats' balls did, THEN what will Goodell & Wells look like...??

You guessed it.
Morons!

And every newspaper & TV journalist in the country will then camp out on their steps for a couple of weeks, asking them the same "when did you stop beating your wife" type questions.

Only, it'll be something more akin to "In one of my stories last January, I stated that I WASN'T 100% CERTAIN that Tom Brady was a lying, cheating scumbag. Therefore I was RIGHT about this. (Turn "best side" to camera, & pause for a smug, self-adulating smile) Now, how do you explain that you paid Mr. Wells $XX.X million, and got the wrong answer?"

If we learned nothing else in the 2 weeks before the SuperBowl, we certainly learned that the media LOVES a good, old-fashioned lynching.

All they know is that the balls were below pressure levels when examined. How it happened by science, magic or invisible aliens with needles is irrelevant.

I believe that less than about 2% of the US population understands how to calculate the pressure - temperature interactions. I believe that around 1 in 20 or less of the people who post on this blog knew how to do the same calculation before some technically savvy people showed them.

I also believe that the vast majority are now absolutely convinced, once the calculations have been laid out for them (and even if they couldn't replicate on their own), that the science produces the compelling conclusion that the Pats did nothing & the temp difference explains the 1.5 psi pressure drop due to rainy cold weather.

These people, average people, were convinced by the science.

I also believe that, if the correct calculations, laid out & explained exactly as they have been, had been trying to explain a 3.o psi pressure drop, that the vast majority of people on this board (& in the public) would have faced the inescapable truth: that someone let ADDITIONAL air out of the balls, even tho they didn't want to believe it. (Fortunately, we are not in that circumstance.)

In other words, I believe that the vast majority of average Joes (& Jills) WILL be persuaded by the correct calculation.

As proof of this, I can assure you that NOBODY is currently doing the calculation & publishing his/her work using the erroneous gage pressure, instead of the correct absolute pressure. Nobody.

And therefore, NOBODY is still claiming that "the temp explains only a 0.5 psi drop".

This tidbit of knowledge HAS percolated into the public that is following this issue.

See. We/they CAN learn.!

Why do you think that the rest of US society is so incapable of facing facts, evidence & experiments placed before them??

I have more faith in the average American.

I have even MORE faith (lots more) in the self-preservation instincts of Mr. Goodell & Mr. Wells.
A couple of not-morons.
Even if you don't like them or their policies.

We'll see.
I'll be back in Ft. Lauderdale sometime this year.
Would you care to wager a dinner on the outcome?

Obviously, you have a higher opinion of the American public than I do. I have travelled extensively throughout the country and can personally attest to the lack of belief in science in many areas even on basic information. Let me add that based on the barrage of anti-Pats leaks and the overall disrepute the Pats are held in nothing is going to change the opinion of the people even if Einstein and Newton came back to attest to it. As for the preservation instincts of Goodell, I agree that he is not a moron but disagree as to what posture benefits him the most. You and many others think that Kraft has life or death power over Goodell, i believe that quite to the contrary Goodell has the support of the other 31 competing owners, the media and the public who would support any move to hurt the Pats because of their reputation. I would be happy to wager a meal on this outcome especially with a fellow Latin School graduate,

Done.

I'd enjoy that too.
Where do you live?

PS

I don't think that Kraft can fire Goodell. I think that the humiliation & proven incompetence that would result from controlled experiments proving the report to be wrong (& the out-for-blood news stories that follow) would doom him.

Just wanted to point out, I had Mike & Mike on in the background at work earlier and Goodell was on, they asked him about Deflategate and one of the questions was "Kraft was really adamant about wanting an apology, if there's nothing there and they did nothing wrong, will the league issue an apology to the Patriots?" I missed his long-winded answer because I got pulled away, but I did catch that his first words were "Well, no."

Goodell should have to start every sentence, "Well, I'm an a**hole, so..."

I'm with you, I have very little faith in the average citizen knowledge or awareness of what is going on. he must be a young'in

With the way information leaks, the fact that it's done, I tend to think we'll know the jist of it before it's actually released. Especially if its got some stuff that makes the NFL look bad, maybe they'll want to get out in front of it a little.

I bet we get the report Monday, not only because its done but because I'm sure they'll be some stupid outrageous result in tonight's fight that people will be talking about all week.

This just in, as part of the Mr. Irrelevant festivities in Newport Beach, CA Gerald Christian will be reading the Wells Report to coincide with a drinking game which requires the participants to take a shot of Jaeger each time one of the following words are mentioned: "Irsay, Deflated, Referee, Leak, Pressure & inconclusive".

Should be riveting. Normally you could watch it on TV but they didn't sell enough tickets at $1.00 apiece and new league rules mandate that it must be blacked out.

Mr. Irrelevant is treated to an entire week of festivities, now sponsored by the Foundation for the Undefeated. This year's Irrelevant Week is slated for July 7-12 in Newport Beach, Calif. A banquet in Christian's honor will be held at the Balboa Bay Resort, the original site of Mr. Irrelevant. Christian will be presented the Lowsman Trophy, given annually to Mr. Irrelevant. The week also includes a parade and concludes with a trip to Disneyland and Angel Stadium.

Agree it'll be soon, but not Monday. Per the NFL's media outreach program, by which they try to control the sports media landscape 52 weeks a year, they will (and in my opinion, already have) delay the release to coincide with a period of time when the NFL isn't front-page news. Monday will be draft wrap-up/analysis day, probably flowing into Tuesday and Wednesday. The report will be released shortly thereafter--either late this week or early the following week.

My guess: if the report has damning evidence against the league it'll be released mid-day on Friday, following the precedence of Congressional and Presidential reports they want buried. If the report conclusion is damning for the Pats or merely inconsequential it'll be released Wed/Thurs/next week, that will give the media some NFL fodder to chew on for a few days, for good or ill.

And for the record I don't think the report will reflect poorly on the Patriots, but that doesn't mean Goodell won't get his pound of flesh. He's been so inconsistent on his rulings, and allows media hype to sway his decisions, so I won't speculate as to what the fallout will actually be.

I don't know why but I'm feeling this Tuesday or Wednesday. I am sort of done with the theory that they are waiting to "bury" it somewhere. There have been way too many opportunities for that. Interest in the results is way too high. Nothing's getting buried.
