Vector's right. We've been over this.
So, explain to me your apparently unmovable stance that seems to decry ignorance (e.g., dinosaur & man's coexistence) while simultaneously surrendering to ignorance.
C'mon, flasox. It is the JOB of thoughtful people everywhere to attempt to spread knowledge & understanding.
If you can't do that, the very least you can contribute is to point fingers & laugh at morons.
That's not too much to ask, is it?
As much as you may dislike them, neither Goodell now Wells got to where they are today by being morons. And it would be moronic IN THE EXTREME of Goodell to NOT follow the developments in this case very carefully. Even tho he says he isn't. (Sometimes they actually fib, when they don't want to answer specific questions.) The outcome plays a large part in whether or not he'll have a job next year. Or the year after that.
BOTH Goddell & Wells certainly know by now what really happened.
If they issue a report that says "deflation to those levels is NOT explained by the temperature difference", and then every single ball that is exposed to those temperatures acts exactly the same as the Pats' balls did, THEN what will Goodell & Wells look like...??
You guessed it.
Morons!
And every newspaper & TV journalist in the country will then camp out on their steps for a couple of weeks, asking them the same "when did you stop beating your wife" type questions.
Only, it'll be something more akin to "In one of my stories last January, I stated that I WASN'T 100% CERTAIN that Tom Brady was a lying, cheating scumbag. Therefore I was RIGHT about this. (Turn "best side" to camera, & pause for a smug, self-adulating smile) Now, how do you explain that you paid Mr. Wells $XX.X million, and got the wrong answer?"
If we learned nothing else in the 2 weeks before the SuperBowl, we certainly learned that the media LOVES a good, old-fashioned lynching.
I believe that less than about 2% of the US population understands how to calculate the pressure - temperature interactions. I believe that around 1 in 20 or less of the people who post on this blog knew how to do the same calculation before some technically savvy people showed them.
I also believe that the vast majority are now absolutely convinced, once the calculations have been laid out for them (and even if they couldn't replicate on their own), that the science produces the compelling conclusion that the Pats did nothing & the temp difference explains the 1.5 psi pressure drop due to rainy cold weather.
These people, average people, were convinced by the science.
I also believe that, if the correct calculations, laid out & explained exactly as they have been, had been trying to explain a 3.o psi pressure drop, that the vast majority of people on this board (& in the public) would have faced the inescapable truth: that someone let ADDITIONAL air out of the balls, even tho they didn't want to believe it. (Fortunately, we are not in that circumstance.)
In other words, I believe that the vast majority of average Joes (& Jills) WILL be persuaded by the correct calculation.
As proof of this, I can assure you that NOBODY is currently doing the calculation & publishing his/her work using the erroneous gage pressure, instead of the correct absolute pressure. Nobody.
And therefore, NOBODY is still claiming that "the temp explains only a 0.5 psi drop".
This tidbit of knowledge HAS percolated into the public that is following this issue.
See. We/they CAN learn.!
Why do you think that the rest of US society is so incapable of facing facts, evidence & experiments placed before them??
I have more faith in the average American.
I have even MORE faith (lots more) in the self-preservation instincts of Mr. Goodell & Mr. Wells.
A couple of not-morons.
Even if you don't like them or their policies.
We'll see.
I'll be back in Ft. Lauderdale sometime this year.
Would you care to wager a dinner on the outcome?
Let me just add this. In a country where 40 percent of the public believes that dinosaurs coexisted with cavemen, do you really think that scientific facts make any difference with Goodell, most of the owners and the public in general.

All they know is that the balls were below pressure levels when examined. How it happened by science, magic or invisible aliens with needles is irrelevant.
