Missed on McBride by two picks

My take aways.

- Belichick is looking to prove there is more than 1 way to skin a cat. Secondary may be weak but we will put the best front 7 in the NFL on the field if these players stay healthy.
- They still think highly of Dobson and what he can do going forward.
- They must feel confident that Gaffney and White can do some things.
- McCourty could be moving back to CB. I think he can be a top 10 CB personally so I am fine with it, especially if he learned a lot from Revis, which I believe he did.
- Tavon Wilson, Chris White, Chris Jones, Michael Buchanan, Jordan Devey, Ryan Wendell, Jake Bequette, etc. were put on notice.
- I only expect 3 DL over 300lbs to make the team this year. A lot more hybrid NASCAR fronts.
- This could be Ninkovich's last season.

Alternative viewpoint from http://www.nfl.com/draft/2015/profiles/xzavier-****son?id=2552682 , which is pretty negative overall. One of the things I did like though is that in 2014 he lead Alabama in TFL & Sacks... though he only 'started' 9/14 games, for whatever that's worth.

Xzavier ****son

STRENGTHS

Five straight games with at least 0.5 sacks in conference play and finished the 2014 season with nine sacks. Gets adequate jump off the snap and into his pass rush with low pad level. Will stay low to ground and come under and around the edge toward quarterback if he gets the jump on an offensive tackle. Uses well-timed shoulder turn and hand swipe to win the edge against waist-benders. Has the leverage and strength to get under pads and bull rush tackles. Consistent contributor for winning program and solid Alabama defense.

WEAKNESSES

Smooth body, lacking the muscularity and definition usually found at the position. Doesn't dominate tight ends. Fails to set and hold the edge as regularly as desired. Content to lay on blocks rather than consistently disengaging and constricting the running lanes. Marginal athleticism with signs of stiffness in his lower body. Seems to be lacking competitive fire at times and isn't prone to aggressive pursuit of a play from the back side. Rarely used in coverage and primarily used as rush end.

DRAFT PROJECTION

Round 7 or priority free agent

BOTTOM LINE

Used as a 3-4 outside 'backer at times and as a defensive end when Alabama goes to its even front, ****son has adequate skills as a pass rusher, but is average to below average against the run. ****son doesn't feature the explosive, athletic traits to be a pass-rushing specialist and might not have enough strength at the point of attack to be an every-down defensive end.

6'3".......260 lbs........this is BB's ideal player composition. You can't believe how many new/current Pats have these measurements (give or take 5 lbs/1 inch). Close to 100% of OLBs and DEs. (I've placed wells into the safety/hybrid pool). BB knows what he likes and sticks to his guns.......sort of like all those quick twitch midget DBs that got him no rings. With one ring in hand, this new love affair is gettin it done

get lael Collins with this 7th god damn

You want to get a guy in the middle of a double murder investigation who will turn around and declare for the draft next year [if he's a free man]. Why?

@cpriceNFL
Roberts was not invited to the combine, but his 6.66 3-cone would have been the best of any CB at the combine if he went. #3cone

@MarkDanielsPJ
Roberts' 4.08 short shuttle and a 6.66 three-cone drill would've been the best for cornerbacks at the Combine.

Now if we can only convince our opponents to field cones as WRs, we will be able to run circles around 'em... ;)

Note: said without a hint of snark, just being funny. I'm a Belichick homer.

@IanLogue: Lack of a WR being picked is interesting. Pats return their entire group in '15, & hopefully this means they're pleased w/Dobson's progress

Story of the draft

Damn, i can't stop thinking that La'el Collins got screwed. If he is indeed innocent, he must be inconsolable

Well the second he came out and declared he wouldn't sign if he wasn't drafted 2nd or 3rd round was the second anyone that had him still on their board pulled him.

Now he has no choice but to sign as an UDFA. Which in reality if he is cleared money wise ya he takes a hit for a few years but he gets to pick his spot and someone gets a potential elite LG.

This could be Ninkovich's last season.

I think so too. My favorite player on the defense, but he has not been containing nearly as well as he was in the past. I see a role/playing time change for him as the season moves on.

Gotta think this haunts him until someone is charged. Too bad the Pats are the only team that really, really can't take the chance on him.

All right, let the cuts begin, we have 86 players already, how are we going to get the UDFA?
Recommendation: Chung, Bequette, Wilson, Devey, Aiken. Thank you for your service.

nfl.com disputes this. It says Justin Coleman at 6.61 was the top performer in the drill. It also has a bunch of corners beating Roberts' short shuttle time. Still very respectable, not a knock on the player. but a knock on @cpriceNFL.

Aiken isn't signed. I agree with Devey, wilson, and probably bequette now. Don't think Chung is going anywhere.

Jets should. Goodell will do everything in his power to get him on the field

Chung lolwut? He might not be great this year without revis but he's at least a special teamer and situational guy at worst.

I don't want to start a separate thread for this but what a stupid arrogant comment that is being attributed to Mark Sanchez.

NFLN was interviewing Chip Kelly and they mentioned that Mark Sanchez said that Tim Tebow is there to throw passes in camp while Sam Bradford recovers.

I thought I saw Kelly tighten up a bit when he heard that, and I don't remember what his answer was. Charley Casserley commented that Sanchez is there to play and not coach.

Where does Mark Sanchez get the idea that he is so established that he can make statements like that?

I hope the Eagles cut his arrogant, entitled, butt-fumbling ass.

Well, Collins didn't get drafted, and PFT is reporting that he plans to sign after he's cleared. If he is cleared, I hope he's able to recoup most of his financial loss.
