This used to be the case but DOD has had a directive since 2008 (probably after the Caleb Campbell fiasco) that makes a 2 year commitment a requirement.

I'll have to do some research. Seems to me, BB wouldn't draft a guy he wouldn't see in July for the season if it wasn't a good chance he would. That's literally burning a pick and while he makes some headscratchers at times, this feels like he knows something.

A Mississippi State fansite said he was the most underrated player in the SEC and called him the "Cheetah." Take that with a huge grain of salt, noting the source, of course.

I'm sure the Pats haters will have a field day with the "cheetah" thing.

For all the people who want us to pick up Lael Collins (myself included)... The best chance of us actually getting him is for him to go undrafted. He has openly said he would not play this year if drafted after the 3rd, and being drafted would allow him to sit out this year and resubmit his name for the 2016 draft. If he goes undrafted he CANNOT declare again next year and must sign with n NFL team if he intends to play a down in this league. As a UDFA I think the pats would have a good chanceto sign hhim and would be able to get him for a cheap 3 year contract

Don't disagree with your post, I just think hell would freeze over before Kraft would ever entertain the possibility of being called to testify at another murder trial. At this point I think everybody has a wait and see attitude about this guy.

Casillas replacement?

Pretty much all the LBs BB working out in this draft have been close to this size.

He really valued LB Jonathan Casillas and is trying to find another.

Those crying into their clam chowder need to realise that Bill won't draft a crap CB, just so he can create a new username on the board, and say 'hey guys, I drafted a CB just like you wanted'.

The plan is to hit them hard at the line of scrimmage, and kill the QB. People like Wells are meant to be ST guys, and Cardona, when he gets here, will make sure we don't blow up on that part of the game.

There isn't any point in getting a crap CB. All you are left then is with a crap CB on your books. You can't replace Revis, so you need to do something else.

Damn.. Cardona snaps the ball at 40+ MPH?? Have to be careful he doesn't break Allen's fingers..

The faster Allen gets the ball the less chance of his punt being blocked.

Matt Wells will be 25 in November.

Dexter McDonald seems like he'd be worth a pick for CB. I bet Seattle drafts him if he's available @ their next pick

STRENGTHS
Outstanding size and length for the position. Has athleticism to open hips and run from press coverage with stride and recovery speed to make up ground quickly. Play strength off of snap a plus. Can be very disruptive with his jam. Does most of his work from press, but sifts through and digests combo routes with awareness. Aggressive hands to disrupt the catch. Had 15 passes defensed this season. Shows desired foot quickness and transition potential for a big corner.
WEAKNESSES
Built to be a press-and-bail cornerback, but high center of gravity prevents him from being able to stop quickly and adjust to curls and hitches underneath. Anticipates outside release and finds himself behind when receiver fakes him out and makes move back inside. Must improve feel for receiver during route. Will allow too much space rather than crowding. Has had pass interference problems over last two seasons. Slow to track downfield throws. Improved tenacity against run and run blocking needed.
DRAFT PROJECTION
Round 7 or priority free agent
BOTTOM LINE
Trait-based cornerback with late-round potential. He's big and can run. He also shows an ability to operate in space, but isn't as physical against the run as some teams would like from a corner his size. His outstanding length and ability to recover give him a shot, but he must learn to trust his traits and sharpen his technique to unlock his potential.

I can definitely see the potential of Wells being a replacement for Chris White/Jonathan Casillas on Special Teams.. Wells attitude could even make him a Larry Izzo type leader.. We'll have to wait and see what happens.. I'd love to see him develop into a Kam Chancellor/Rodney Harrison type Safety that would bring the pain over the middle, but making the team and contributing on Special Teams would be more than welcome..

Totally agree that it is unlikely that we even sniff in his direction.... But from the limited info I have read on the case, he is not a suspect but is merely a person of interest due to his former relationship with the deceased. As it stands now (can't swear for the guy) it looks like he will be cleared of any/all wrongdoing. Couldn't hurt to approach the kid after the draft and sell him on playing for a winner in the hopes he is clears.

NOBODY cries in their clam chowder, Brit. It's already hella salty. Now crying in their baked beans, yeah, I could see the beans needing some seasoning.Of course they could cry in their half finished mugs of Sam Adams and get themselves a second head on their flat beers...

I don't have much to expect from any pick from now on. Wells has interesting number. Comparing with Randall, the first safety picked:
Height: 5107
Weight: 196
40 Yrd Dash: 4.46
20 Yrd Dash: 2.58
10 Yrd Dash: 1.55
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 14
Vertical Jump: 38
Broad Jump: 10'00"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.07
3-Cone Drill: 6.83

Wells
Dates: 03/04/15
Height: 6016
Weight: 222
40 Yrd Dash: 4.43
20 Yrd Dash: 2.55
10 Yrd Dash: 1.58 225 Lb. Bench Reps: 15
Vertical Jump: 35 1/2
Broad Jump: 09'10"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.26
3-Cone Drill: 7.10

Stiffer on space, not as agile and with a lesser jump capacity, which is to be expected from a guy 30 pounds heavier. I don't know if it would work, TBH. Could become a very specialized player, with the task to shadow am opposing TE. It is a bit of a gamble, but i like it.

Wells I like. Small lb fast can cover and tackle. Hard nosed sec school.

Cardona? Yeah like he'd be drafted.

Richards don't get me started.

Other picks A+. Those F.

Actually, he can get dispensation for the 2 if he is on the Patriots Roster, just like Ben Garland did with the Broncos last year.

That means he'll have to beat out knuckleball Aiken.

One of my favourite upside picks on the last day. I think his partner JaCorey Shepherd is still on the board too. One thing though, both only played one side of the field and that might prevent them being picked by the Pats.

One trend very perceivable on this draft:

Every player can work on more than just one position. Everyone (besides Cardona-LS and Richards-S) has experience in a multitude of roles or can be worked in a different place than its original position.

BB is creating Swiss Army Knife team

He has Seattle written all over him lol

Deus are you surprised we haven't drafted a CB yet?

Yes, but that's because I thought they'd be looking at getting one in round 2. Now that round 2 is gone, I'm not surprised.
