Poof! There goes CB Bobby McCain to the Dolphins. Here is a guy the Patriots wanted but they waited too long screwing around with safeties and DEs. It will be open season on the Patriots secondary next season.

They wanted him so badly they traded out instead of drafting him. EDIT: Oops he was taken a couple of picks before

So we went into the draft with many posters saying "BB will definitely trade up, there's not room for 9 picks on this roster."

It appears we will end the day with BB taking 11 players...

I wish he'd go back to the old strategy of trading into the next year for a pick a round higher. That's a good way to eventually end up with a rolling second 1st round pick.

Any lingering thoughts of the Patriots re-signing Dan Connolly are history now. Five years as a versatile, quality starter. Not bad for an undrafted free agent that somehow managed to persevere after four years of bouncing back and forth from the practice squad. One of his four NFL kick returns was very memorable too.

Josh Kline's days as a Patriot appear to be numbered, which is not a bad thing. Ryan Wendell can soon return to being a backup who can fill in when an inevitable injury occurs. Bottom line is that the quality of not only the starting offensive line improves, but so does the depth. Not an easy feat to accomplish when you lose one starter, and two in two seasons (Mankins).

They could resign Connolly for a year or two and cut the scrubs.

Should be a very competitive training camp.

How do you know they wanted another slot corner?

Great job on getting the trade information guys.....espn gives us nothing!!!!!!

I hear you there, but I don't mind this, either. I am almost looking forward to him trading 166 again for another 7th and just poaching the leftovers he likes at the end.

I really like the strategy of making all our picks or adding more picks. As I said earlier in this thread, the less UDFA's we need to fill out the roster the better the chance of targeting top guys because of the signing bonus pool. With 7th rounders we can either get a head start on those UDFA type guys or take a flier on a risky player like we did with dennard

Wendell : under 30, C and G. Proven winner despite patsfans haters.

Even with OL help, I am not ready to put Wendell out of the starting lineup quite yet.

It seems like the Dolphins have their own round of the draft.

Maybe it's worth seeing what happens between now and opening day. You're counting on Shaq and/or Jackson just pushing Connolly into the sunset & the team moving on. You really think these picks are the death knell?

Yes, they apparently were devastated when he was selected.

I suspect they were! They are depending on the late round CBs to save their secondary and now one of thier fav's is gone. They were very serious about this kid.

Interesting.. Pats supposedly called the Packers to make the trade down...
