Not sure that I'd consider the OL a "weakness for years." That's really stretching things from a team who generally wins 12-13 games just about every year. As a matter of fact, that terrible OL only gave up about 20 sacks for Tom Brady last year, which was one of the lowest numbers in the entire league for starting QBs.

I wish I could find the stat again but I believe they were top 3 in QB hits allowed

Idk, that front 7 on D is damn near enough at this point to mask the secondary defiencies IMO.

Cameron Clear is another versatile pick I could see heading this way.

Anybody know why Tre Jackson is slipping? Or is he?

I can't find a better 'name' source than Bleacher Report, but this would explain it, if true:

— Two offensive guards—Florida State's Tre' Jackson and Alabama's Arie Kouandjio—have failed multiple team physicals due to chronic knee problems, per team sources. There are always draft-week surprises when high-caliber players aren't drafted due to injuries, and the two guards are potentially in that category right now.

Brady getting the ball out of his hands in about 3 seconds was also a major contributing factor.

Definitely a good point, although I think this applies for every team, particularly at the fast pace of the NFL. We're lucky enough to have a QB with good pre-snap recognition skills, and the ability to properly read defenses and change calls/protections.

While a better OL is always wanted by all, it seems to be Belichick's philosophy that he will take advantage of Brady's ability and prioritize his resources in other areas. To this point, it's hard to argue against its effectiveness, at least through a broader type of lens, anyway.

I'm rooting for Richards, as he seems like great guy. But I'm still pissed they would risk such a high draft pick on him. It's seriously indefensible. I'd bet my house on him being there at LEAST in the 4th round or later (6th-7th) So WHY draft him that high? WHY?

I don't understand your point. If the top remaining player according to your own evaluation process is available, why would you wait on picking him ?

To the uneducated public that just takes whatever consensus board CBS or NFL.com offers as gospel it might be a reach, sure. But those opinions are essentially as meaningful as a 40yd time for nose tackles. Not even beat reporters that have been following one specific team for decades are able to put together a close mock draft. Why would you listen to over generalized rankings made by people that maybe spend 30mins on a team.

And finally ever thought about why it is so hard for anyone to predict BB picks ? He doesn't exclusively stick with the classic positional molds, every year changes up/refines requirements for positions and tries to innovate some aspects. The draft is his cheap playground where he gets to try out new thoughts and concepts.

What I have seen in the first two days of the draft is a great, safe first round choice that will solidify our DL in the years to come. Then at the bottom of the second round a player who at the very least will be a core special teams player for the next five years with SS starter upside. And the third is exactly one of those experimental projects where BB can innovate some of his schemes. This is not a bad haul.

Today I am looking forward to get some depth players.

Belichick was in love with Steve Gregory because of his smarts too, right?

I definitely agree that hoodie ALWAYS seems to throw a massive curveball in the draft, but I try to withhold judgement until the player gets on the field (or doesnt...)

I also subscribe to the thought that NFL teams' draft boards probably look pretty different than McShay, Kiper, et al.

That being said, as a consumer of this brand and sport, I reserve the right to roll my eyes and talk some **** from time to time. No different than if I do something goofy at work around my friends, no matter how good at my job I am overall.

I do hold out hope for today to be more satisfying...but I also know better. At least this board is making progress. Not nearly as much noise over WRs and RBs as I thought might come up.

Doubt it's Harmon. I actually wouldnt mind to see a lot of Dmac and Harmon together.
Yeah Harmon should be pretty safe because I think that he is our best coverage and deep safety after Dmac. Not that he is close to Dmac. But I'd much rather have Harmon back there compared to Wilson or Chung in packages where Dmac isn't the deep safety

Who is better at running an NFL team, Bill Belichick or Mel Kiper? If the draft "gurus" we're as good at recognizing talent and mocking where they should go, teams would be paying them to run their war rooms and they wouldn't be a talking head breaking down how and why a player was a good selection for a system or team.

I trust the guy who has delivered 4 championships over draft "gurus" or armchair scouts.

Seriously, wasn't there some trade offer on the table????

They could have selected this guy in the seventh round!!!!!

I'm curious why people assume that? Because you read it in a magazine? Remember, the premier talking head experts couldn't figure out who McCourty was and he was a first round pick.

Was McCourty a special teams player picked in the first round [after two trade downs] or are all these guys full of crap, reading off the same cheat sheet, not even considering him until he ran a good 40 at the combine? Do you really think they know the current status of third to 7th round picks or are they all reading from the same out of date scouting reports?

How much special teams does McCourty play and how many times do they say he's a special teams player.

Just read overreaction to our pics. You guys make me laugh hey. Have to love people judging the draft and how good or bad a player is going to be for the pats... the day of the draft. The people saying BB the GM is bad are just as ignorant as the people saying TB12 was done last year.

Let's be honest with yourself, you have absolutely no idea if player X was going to "be there in the 6th" . The irony of that is if you were a NFL GM and had that player as a 2nd round talent but thought you could get him in the 6th... you were just wrong because another team just picked him in the 2nd.

Just enjoy the draft process of an organisation who has time and time again proven to be competent.

Seems to me that BB isn't that thrilled with top level talent in this draft.

How funny is it hearing "Kyle Wilson was still there and Sergio Kindle was still there so this pick was a surprise to me" .

Can't wait to see who we pick up on day 3.

Not real fluid-looks stiff in terms of his movement-doesn't adjust to the poorly thrown ball all that well-will be a solid in line blocker.

I just wonder at the pro level, Tom Brady is a very accurate passer, you really have to be with Gronkowski...

There is NO WAY Bill and Nick stand "Pat" and make 7 selections today. Not happening.

Apparently, we really wanted a special teams player like Larry Izzo in the first.

He's trying his best to even the gap with the Jets. It's gonna suck watching Marshall, Decker, new draftee Devin Smith and others run circles around our mediocre secondary, and then watch the Jets defense sack Brady 4-5 times a game.
Concern troll alert.

Trades are coming.
