Who are our starting guards ? Are they good, dominating players that will keep Brady upright and consistently blow open holes for our running backs ? I doubt it.
I got faith in what Dante directs.
I was implying our pass rush against the jets o line will send Geno in a tizzy.

And I know Dante isn't the o line coordinator anymore, but he still directs it.

You do realize our starting center, who looks like he'll be a beast for years, wasn't on our team yet at this point last year. How did not taking him until day 3 hurt us?

Not sure that I'd consider the OL a "weakness for years." That's really stretching things from a team who generally wins 12-13 games just about every year. As a matter of fact, that terrible OL only gave up about 20 sacks for Tom Brady last year, which was one of the lowest numbers in the entire league for starting QBs.

Agreed. And as has been noted, the Patriots have not once in 16 years used a top 3 pick on an OL.

With Scarnecchia still a big part of our scouting process, I don't think its homerish at all to sit back and say, they've got this part covered.

Connelly and Wendell did alright last year. I have a feeling that Connelly will be back.

I think we'll see Cannon, Kline, and Fleming seeing some reps and competition as well, along with any pick or veteran signing that we could see from now until September. Belichick generally does very well with mid-late round interior lineman picks, as well as UDFAs. Don't stress over it. They have 7 picks tomorrow. They'll put them to use and choose an OL or two.

Mankins was the exception in 2005, but yeah--we've seen great value in the mid to late rounds, and even UDFAs.

With 7 picks tomorrow and Scar still part of the scouting process, I think we'll be alright.

Fleming will be reflected on as a steal, in a year or two.

Love him too. Gotta love those Mich State RBs.

Lots of "day one" starting qualities such as excellent pass protection, good hands for a RB out of the backfield, and the ability to get stronger as the game goes on.

Personally, I'm actually a bit surprised that someone didn't scoop him up already, although he's sitting right around the projected area right now.

I really like this pick, and am hoping they jump on him tomorrow with the 2nd pick in the fourth round.

I dont know what it was, but I really thought Duke Johnson was gonna be here.

He'd have worked just fine as well, but I actually prefer Langford. Just my 2 cents, of course.

Supa its been a long time, my friend!
I gotta admit Langford wasn't a rb I did much research on, but if you're endorsing him I'm buying.

There's a link a few posts up on this page. I like his size (6 ft, 210 lbs), his pro readiness pass protection, and his ability to be a workhorse back.

I believe he ran a 4.42, and scored 22 touchdowns this season as well. 11/12 past games of 100+ yards vs. big ten competition. I think he'd be a nice fit here, personally.

You think they have high hopes on Gaffney, or have a latter round rb targeted?

Hard to try and project what Belichick is thinking, FF.

Gaffney could be a nice stash pickup, although the skeptics will point to the fact that we've never done well with stashing an injured player in the past.

As far as where we take RB--your guess is as good as mine. I'm just speaking on one of my only two binkies in the draft (the other was CB Byron Jones, who went to DAL in the first round).

they're gonna draft MORE busts tomorrow...I can't take it anymore!!!...the Jets could have won it all last year if they didn't lose twelve games!! can't you SEE that? ...can't take it...all busts...

1) We haven't a clue what Belichick is thinking.

2) We needed help at DT and OLB/DE. Brown and Grissom meet those needs.

3) The draft is about the future. We have a potential starter at SS in Richards. It's not as if we don't need any help at safety over the next couple of years.

4) We have four picks in the next round and a half. We will know more about our needs at OG and RB from those picks. I suspect that we will pick at least one of each.

Brady getting the ball out of his hands in about 3 seconds was also a major contributing factor.
