I can only imagine if Richards gets beat on the first play of preseason. Christ this critisism spiraled out of control fast. Just won the super bowl...

Starting to go on a deep dive of the interwebz on Richards. He's beginning to remind me a lot of a more physical version James Sanders...which isn't completely horrible.

Now we're getting somewhere. What else can we find common about the two?

Richards is "too slow" but measured 4.59 at his pro day. Good time for a box safety-LB hybrid.
Sherman ran a 4.56 and was also "too slow" coming out of college. Wasn't seen as a natural cover corner, too stiff in his movements.

Couldn't we get a ST'er later also?

Jeez, we are already relegating Richards' ceiling to being a special team? Let's not go overboard. I am sure that Belichick drafted Richards to be a starter at least eventually. He could be wrong and the "experts" could be right. But he might know something that we don't.

or Marquise Hill......

Look, I just listed the first three that came to mind. We could go on and on and on.....

Or that blocking TE with the bad back [can't remember the name] or that guy who's team lost every game and never played more than one year at a position.

He just wastes those second round picks. How about that German guy who hardly even played football except a couple years?

As much as I dislike this pick, I feel much better knowing and going through this whole process not long ago, only to come out with a SB title a few years later....#tryingtobeoptimistic.

You know your a Patriots fan, when after 15 years of constant success, you totally flip out over a second round draft pick.

P.J. Williams gone to Saints.

Interestingly enough both Richards and Sherman came to Standford as WRs, then switched to defense.

Sherman's scouting report coming out wasn't good and look how he's turned out:

Sherman is a size prospect with some good intangibles that will help him mold into a contributing backup corner for a press-heavy team. However, he does not possess the natural coverage instincts, fluidity or burst to be considered a future starter. Is comfortable and capable in press man, using his size to disrupt receivers' releases off the line, but doesn't show enough make up speed to consistently recover when beaten. Awareness in zone and off-man are only adequate. Has average ball skills but some upside as a playmaker. Tough against the run but still developing from a technical standpoint. Sherman is a Day 3 prospect.

Jordon's is even worse. Maybe that means he'll be an even better player

Displays obvious coverage limitations. Below-average instincts when asked to play deep safety. Slow to see it, with marginal recovery speed. Struggles in man coverage. Grabby at the top of the route and lacks feet to match and mirror. Slow to digest route combinations out of bunch formations. Comes downhill against run quickly, but out of control at times. Needs improvement as a wrap-up tackler.

Great - - you're not concerned about getting a OG high, but evidently getting a ST'er in the 2nd was a priority for you.

Couldn't we get a ST'er later also?

The kid was in the car with his parents on their way to see his sister and had the draft on the radio.

Were you THAT afraid another team was going to snatch up Jordan Richards before the 96/97/101 picks?

.

I am assuming that Belichick does not see Richards as a special teamer. So I am not looking at him that way.

Just so irritating seeing talented guys being picked right now, some of them day 1 starters at positions of need, while we need to justify our reach.

This is BB's obsession with drafting super Boy Scout DBs and WRs. Ras-I Dowling was another super-boy-scout DB. But I have news for you BB, most WR and DB are not Boy Scouts.

What is so infuriating about this pick is that BB did not seem to learn from his mistakes with Tavon Wilson and Ras-I and Darius Butler and ...

If BB employed a GM who made all these horrific second round picks, BB would have fired him by now.

We are not cutting a 2nd rounder and we are probably not carrying 6 safeties so someone is walking. Probably Tavon Wilson.

Just FYI---Tavon Wilson played more special teams snaps than any other New England Patriot last season, and that obviously includes Matthew Slater.

It seems as though Belichick values Tavon Wilson in some capacity.

Seems this stuff was desired not long ago.

Oh PJ, what could have been... Oh well, I guess we are going to prom with Bradley Fletcher

Looks like Detroit beat BB to a double dip in the Stanford 2ndary.

Can't draft & develop DBs in the 2nd-3rd round? Just draft one who can coach himself!

Belichick playing chess while the rest of the league is playing checkers!
There is NOTHING funny about horrible draft picks.

Poof there goes PJ Williams, one of the best cover guys in the draft.
